Thank u for mentioning to wear a mask when working with silica gel. Almost no one says that in their videos. I have asthma and did not wear one the first and second time working with the sand. Trust me, it affected my breathing. When I researched the affects of inhaling the dust from the sand I found that you can have breathing problems due to scar tissue formation within the lungs.

Amen...I still have my bouquet from 36 years ago. I’m going to take it apart and make a usable epoxy piece out of it. Can’t wait to do flowers the grandchildren give me.

Really impressed with the microwave method. However I'm into flower arranging with stems still on, not not so sure if size might be an issue. Great video thanks very much for the info. Oh by the way quick tip for the book method, fold your drying paper first and place into the spine of the book.

Thanks! I know one option is removing the stem to dry the flower and then reattaching the stem with floral wire. Would that be an option for you? Yes, great point on the book method. I usually do that but maybe forgot in the video. Oops! It does help for sure!

It’s best to use a paper like newspaper or parchment paper that can absorb the moisture. Regular printer paper or copy paper might not work as well. I hope this helps! Enjoy!

It depends on what you mean by journaling. Over time, dried flowers will fade and possibly become more brittle. If they are protected with an acid free sheet/paper, that may help. I’d say they’d probably look good for 3-5 years if exposed to light/air.

It might be tough not to have those crumble, but I would try using a fixative like hair spray to set the flowers once they’re dry. I’d only hand deliver the card too. Let me know how it turns out!

I’m glad it was helpful! There are no warnings listed from the manufacturer about using either a microwave or oven, and they include instructions for using them. The only precaution listed is not reusing the container for food afterwards, and that’s because pesticides from flowers could be absorbed into the gel/container. I hope this helps.

I'm glad it was helpful! Yes, as long as you are preserving your flowers along the way, they should definitely last a couple of years. I have some pressed flower art that I made and put in a regular frame about 7 years ago. Some of the flowers have faded (especially lighter colored white or yellow ones), but I think it still looks good...just more vintage. I also have dried flowers I made for potpourri last year, and they look good.

For the Silica Gel method, how big is the red tupperware container that you used? How much silica gel did you need for a container of that size? I am planning to preserve almost 1,000 blooms from my wedding so we are trying to figure out how many containers and how much silica gel we will need!

The largest Tupperware container I have is about 3.78 liters, but you might want to get something bigger for that many flowers. This is the 5lb bag of silica gel I’ve used, and I can probably dry 8-10 roses per batch in various containers, though only 4-6 fit in my red container depending on how large the blooms are. amzn.to/44PHpLC I hope that helps!

I am trying to dry a rose from my grandfathers casket flowers and cast it in resin, in a glass display dome. Do you have any tips on how to do the epoxy resin and position the flower in the glass dome so when it sits upright that the flower looks good and is preserved for forever? I’ve heard of air pockets in the resin rotting the rose

@@micahdanielle3307First of all, I'm so sorry for your loss...That is a beautiful keepsake...Definitely dry the rose in silica gel and seal with a sealant, maybe try....cutting something that the rose will fit in to and sit on, like an egg carton or even use some cling wrap just to prevent and protect the rose from falling in to the resin..I glue some popsicle sticks together like a square or tohold it upright, use some string to hold up...also make sure to use casting resin and pour slowly in layers...depending on the resin you use. Ive always used a heat gun to pop bubbles that continue to rise and babysat the flower because you can getmore air bubbles although sometimes they look really beautiful, like water. Do not apply the heat too close as it will burn the flower. I hope this helps..let me know if I've forgotten anything...😊

@@mariafuentes-mi2dz Could I set the dried Rose upright in a small mold, pour resin over to cover the rose and fill the mold let that dry, and then pour resin in the glass display dome part way, put the already casted rose in, and then cover with more resin to fill up the display dome? Would the look still be seamless or could one tell that the rose had already been casted and that it was put in the dome and covered again with resin? I just want no one to be able to tell that’s what happened

Although I've never done it that way...I have poured resin over a single rose and comes out good but never put it in another mold....why don't you try with a different flower. First? As long as your able to pour your resin as deep as the flower it should be ok...my casting resin is only up to 2 inches...

Recently tried drying flowers my boyfriend got me in my dehydrator but I think I stored them incorrectly afterwards because they feel moist again and there’s a bit of condensation in the jar 🤷🏾‍♀️ excited to try again though using one of these methods

Parchment paper. It won’t stick to the flowers or absorb the moisture. Works perfectly. You can also try several sheets of newspaper if you don’t have parchment paper. Good luck! ❤️

You’re welcome! It really depends on how your store the flowers. They could last many years if you keep them away from sunlight and moisture. You can always store them in a shadow box to keep them more protected. The flowers will generally fade a bit in color over time, but they can still be pretty. If you have a special project in mind, let me know.

When you put parchment in book, if you turn the paper over it wont keep rolling up while you work with flowers before closing book 😁😉

I like to add little dried flowers to the letters I send to friends. I've always had issues with the purple and blue flowers losing their color in about a week of drying. I'll keep trying though!

I love that idea! I’ve learned that a lot depends on the flower. I usually have the hardest time with light pink or white flowers keeping their color. Exposure to sun can play a big part in flowers fading over time.

I need as much color retention as possible so definitely the silica...I need to use the press method first though as my projects demand flat dried flowers.

Hello! I have never tried using rice for drying flowers, but I know it does help absorb moisture. I seem to recall advice to put your phone in rice if it gets submerged, but don’t quote me on that one!😄 I do know the product I recommended is sold for the specific purpose of drying flowers, and it’s reusable. Resin may help retain the color over time, but sometimes flowers do fade slightly. I find that darker colors like blue and red may fade less than lighter colored flowers.

okay so im planning on preserving the bouquet my boyfriend sent me to put in a shadow box with our picture. i love the look of the hanging method but have you ever dipped them in expoxy or anything like that to keep it looking more natural?

I think silica gel would preserve the color the best. You can also preserve them in resin, but I don’t think I’d recommend that if you want a shadow box look. My niece air dried her wedding bouquet by hanging them and putting the flowers in a shadow box. It looked beautiful. Hope that helps!

You still have to dry out the flowers before you put them in resin, or else they will go bad if you don't.

Very informed video I want to ask how to know my flowers are completely dried and ready for resin art? Book process not make the flowers color change?

Thank you! Different types of flowers take different amounts of time to dry depending on how layered the flower is. For something like a rose, I would wait another 5 days or so for the flower to completely dry after using one of the methods in the video. I find that the center of the flower sometimes remains moist after using silica gel or oven drying. Most flowers will change color slightly with any drying method. They usually fade over time as well, though I think they still look pretty and more vintage when that happens.

How long do these keep ok for when they’re dried? :) Going to make my own confetti!

I really like the video! it's really helpful thank u!! I have questions, is it ok to heat the silica gel in microwave? Can I still use the microwave for food afterwards? And I don't have an oven.. do u know how long I should heat it up in microwave? Sorry for the asking so many questions.. but I kinda lost cuz I never did it before

Thank you! It all depends what you do with the flowers and the type of flowers. When I hang roses to dry, they tend to shrink and the petals don’t fall, but they might for other flowers with thin petals (like zinnias). I have another video on making potpourri, which is a great way to use dried petals.
