How-To: Drum to Disc BRAKE CONVERSION | Suzuki Jimny 4x4

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this short DYI video guide, I will show you how to do a rear drum to disc brake conversion on a Suzuki Jimny 4x4.
You will find everything essential to the process to be included in the video - from disassembling the rear drum brakes, dealing with the bearings and removing the backplate, installing the new disc brakes, and putting everything back together.
I am also navigating you through the conversion kit - which parts are mandatory (such as the conversion plates) and which components are optional so you can supply them yourself (such as the Renault Megane calipers and brake line)
The basic conversion kit, used in this video is from www.jimnybits.com/ (not a sponsored content)
In the previous visual guide on this channel, I showed you how to install a rear air differential locker. You can check it here if you’ve missed it: • Air DIFF LOCKER Instal...

    Thanks Stuart! I bought the Jimny from Italy simply because of the less rust that they have over there :) After the 3 years of my driving in muddy conditions some rust has sadly started to appear (mostly behind the headlights)

    I wouldn't say it's noticeable. Most of the weight falls on the front wheels when stopping, so they are the most important.

    Thank you too! I belive, the Samurai has a bit different construction so it won't be the same as with the Jimny. However, I have seen Samurais fitted with a hand brake mounted on the transfer case. Try researching that out ;)

  • @The4x4Lab

    @The4x4Lab

    Good question. You need to bend and pull them quite a bit to reach the new hook points. If they survive, you can use them 😉

    You need calipers from the 2002 to 2008 era Renault Megane models. I hope that helps ;) The negative part is that these Megane calipers dont have the best handbrake.

    Megane 2 model has two different rear brakes with 240mm disks and 270mm. You need for 240mm, brake caliper carrier left side 7701069125, 77 01 055 012 (TRW - BDA970), right side - 7701069126 (TRW - BDA971).

    Because the Renault Megane calipers are not always the same. There have been some variations on the production line. In effect, sometimes one might need a spacer, sometimes you wont need it...
