Excellent tutorial. I never thought practicing on flat ground first. The editing and shots showing what you talking about really helped. This aspect has improved this video.

Shoulder injuries absolutely SUXS! Two and a half years ago, my left shoulder bursitis caused so much pain. The supraspinatus tendon suffered a tear of 1.6 x 1.5 cm. Plus subscapularis suffered calcification tendinopathy. Friends kept suggesting cortisone injection but I took the slow and expensive, many trips to the Physiotherapy to heal my shoulder. Even at age 48-49, I was so impatient with my healing. Anyone with shoulder injuries will easier learn these terms as they want to heal ASAP. I remember returning back to surf ski paddling three months after the injury (in wild surf). I fell off and it was agony climbing back in my ski. Then I tried surfing a month later, that first attempted pop up - uuggghh!! Returned to swimming not long after. I wondered what life would be have been like if I was surf skateboarding back then??? PS: I was very disciplined with my physio exercises, sometimes overdoing it a bit too much. It was expensive but very grateful for not having an operation. Physio will always keep referring you to go back to them. I eventually stopped when I was swimming and surfing a bit more. I “promised” my physio that I would book another appointment. Whenever my left shoulder plays up, I know I forgot to practice my shoulder exercises. Although I do them much less than during my recovery time, I still need to do them as maintenance and to prevent future injuries. Hope that your shoulder not only heals but this injury doesn’t come back to haunt you later in your life. Don’t feel pressured to make extra videos or do crazy stuff. Take your recovery seriously. People will say just rest but there are specific exercises you should do to promote healing. Good luck, you have youth on your side. 👍

Hey Layton, love your content and it’s awesome having all your tutorials on the board I have and where I skate. Yanno how you have the pro model, is that just an older version of the toledo or do they still sell that. Also I was wondering if you could do a tutorial for pumping around the bowl. (Hope you feel better soon) -yew

Hey Layton I was thinking about getting some American football shoulder pads. I see people fall on their sides so hip, elbow, wrist and shoulders could be hurt. I’m an older guy who is really loving the skatepark but I can’t take those kind of injuries. I mean there’s a possibility that I would not heal up completely at my age. Do you think that varsity shoulder pads would’ve protected you? I just had a friend dislocate his shoulder and maybe tear something but when he fell I think he reached out his arm. In that case pads wouldn’t help.

Hey Joe! Epic hear you're enjoying the skatepark! Totally understand, nursing injuries and waiting for them to heal isn't fun.. Where I landed on my shoulder, varsity pads would've helped for sure, I'm lucky that I have good muscle tone around my shoulders, so that also help preventing the injuring being much worse. However, I do feel like NFL football pads would be a bit impractical while skateboarding, they're kind of big and bulky. After doing a quick google, a better alternative might be something like lacross shoulder pads: www.lax.com/lacrosse-equipment/maverik-charger-ekg-shoulder-pad/119938.html Even a rugby contact shirt like this: www.mmadirect.com.au/products/madison-contact-suit-shirt-rugby-league-nrl?currency=AUD&variant=32003936157801&Google%20Shopping&gclid=Cj0KCQjwnoqLBhD4ARIsAL5JedJeE9IADBu4IdzVGObp3gk50FEzdQq18AtRTo_UPaRA6X8qjvAhNkwaAkiIEALw_wcB Another thing to look at it motorcross pads. These options are less bulky than NFL pads and you could fit a tee over the top. NFL pads are obviously going to be a lot stronger, but given their size I just don't think they would be very practical for surfskating. I guess it comes down to how much protection you're after. most common skating injuries are wrist, arms, knees, head, I just got unlucky with my shoulder - not even sure how I got thrown onto my shoulder haha hope this helps! YEW

yes, it's just practice. Try going up and down the bowl first to get the feeling of it, then try dropping in on a roll-in bowl or ramp before actually dropping in. Get your confidence up first and you'll get there YEW!
