Adding to this, I did a street stock race, did "meh" decided to look around for tips, found this video, and next race I ran, I was running 2nd within a second of the leader for most of the race and ended up actually winning it when they had issues dealing with a lapped car. Having the vast majority of my races being road and then followed up by oval, this dirt stuff is a whole new world for me. Thanks for the video!
A little late but I just went to a dirt race in ports mouth Ohio and LOVED it. I am now obsessed with dirt racing...

Atomic speedway is a great place high banked half mile in Chillicothe Ohio. Eldora speedway is a must at some point for either the kings royal sprint car race or the world 100 late model race. I also really like moler raceway park near Mount orab ohio which is a 1/4th mile bullring

Also bushcreek is near portsmouth that's a 3/8th mile I have never been there before
Love the middlesworth chips paint. I really didn't need this video but I'm so glad that you're helping newer folks understand dirt.
As a former dirt driver and now iracer, LISTEN to this person, he is telling you EVERYTHING you need to know at least to get to class C from rookie.

Sprint cars and super late models will do wheelies,my late model makes over a thousand HP, and when I had it normally the front Left wheel will come about two ft off the ground, the sprint car is even worse I've seen them raise both wheels completely off the ground at a 130 MPH down the back stretch

Wow, nice editing man!
Really helpful, I will definitely be waiting for videos on each car, I could use some tips on certain ones.
Good job Joe... keep them coming...
As a former longtime asphalt and dirt racer in real life feom age 10-30 this guy js absolutely correct on everything and related to real life as well
This was extremely helpful, thank you
Good job...in a late model use of the top is vital just as much as the bottom groove.
Seeing a Middleswarth sprint is awesome. My uncle Phil raced for them wayyy back when and their shop is right up the street from my house.
I think you did this segment REALLY well! Do you have any others???
That was cool to see USA International Dirt......I've made 100's of laps at the real track in a real Late Model before it closed down.
So helpful thank you!
Great job. Great video
Excellent content!
Great video, a lot of good tips! I'd like to clarify something though because I'm not seeing really anyone else mention it. The way you talk about setting the car is not the same as a Scandinavian Flick. I think a better way to talk about it is "pitching the car in". The Scandi Flick results in a similar effect to setting the car, of getting it sideways, but is totally different in approach. A real Scandi Flick involves turning the car away from the corner very quickly, and then snapping the wheel back towards the corner to turn it in before counter steering to hold the slide. This method is used to very quickly rotate the rear of the car as it puts a lot of weight transfer energy into the car. This method can work in dirt oval in the experience that I have, but the cars are not set up to drive this way.
Great insight!
this was very useful... they really should add information on things track conditions to the game's documentation.
Hey running that cushion curtal in every class .....good vid
Thanks for sharing.
Hey joe! After meeting you at the ARX @ mid ohio im ready to tackle this!
This is a good starter video
Picked video because I was interested in something post season. The video content is true to real life. Thing is you don't get to choose what the track is like when you unload the car. Dry slick is a challenge. I hear the rubber just screeching off my tires. I shredded mine in the last race of the year (why not, ya know). I might try this sim out. It doesn't look like this has ruts in it. A real pucker factor is hitting a rut at speed in a turn.
If the the track is solid rubbed tacky the drive is almost like on pavement, no sideways needed for speed.
Still relevant for rookies three years later 👍🏻
I have about 80 races under my belt, and actually picked up a little info from this. Especially at Eldora. That track gives me fits, and I paid close attention to your line. During our little offseason in December, I plan on practicing using the brake more entering the corners so I can go in a little hotter, and also using brakes when needed throughout the corners. Right now, this does not come naturally to me, and have a tendency to screw it up. Also need to work on the lowest line. I usually end up running the safest line once things string out, and that does not help me catch anyone.
W out detail..... *#1 is setup. !!! #2 understand Dirt / getting lose / drift / how to steer / how to & understand breaking traction... To get around the turn #3 know how to drive / learn how to drive
Great video! The music was a bit too loud at times, but very informative.
Great video..would love to drive one...my friends and i go to a slick track go cart track and wnen i lap them they ask me how the hell do you go so fast...i said you gotta steer with the throttle and feel when you get bite
As a former dirt track race you NEVER tail whip your car. It disrupsts the suspension and bite. You use steering and throttle to enter and exit a corner percisely.
@williammaine5254
4 жыл бұрын
This is true if you prefer a looser setup. However, if you prefer a tighter setup, you most definitely have to whip the tail around. Can't set it unless you do.
OMG THANK YOU!!!
Don’t neglect changing the steering ratio immediately if the car is just driving on eggshells. Sometimes the difference between 8:1 and 10:1 is not liking a car and loving a car.
Nice video! I wish you had done a follow up on how to drive the late models....they’re the only dirt car I can’t figure out even a little bit, lol. I understand how to be fast in all of the others, but I always feel awkward and slow in the late models.

Since there are some who seem to not understand, this will specifically help with iRacing. Concepts still apply to real life, but loosely. Real life cars have far more complex mechanics and balance. Don't take it as gospel.

Chase Hill nascar heat 4 is so unrealistic and the cars front go’s up instead of down
My dad raced modifieds a long time ago and he won a couple state championships and point championships and he used throttle the whole way around besides letting off of the gas going in

OffTheCharts PS4 It all depends on the track, the power of the car, the banking etc.
Much obliged
You should visit the Elma track in Washington
I've been running super late models for 30 years setting the car is correct, the problem in real life is most people panic and can't set the car it's had when you are going a 100 plus MPH and have to intentionally cause the car to go sideways
#HighSideBandit! 🤘🏻
As Doc Hudson said: "If you're going hard enough left you'll find yourself turning right."
i scored a race car mech/fab job. i hope to be in the driver seat someday.
Also, that's not what Scandinavian flick is. What you described is simply switching from turn-in to countersteering.
Did you make anymore tutorial videos on how to drive a dirt car?
how about a guide to how to run a lane for beginners. I am finally getting a handle on the driving part....but hit cars way to often. :(
3:50 I'm crying 😂😂😂
4:03 Me, a rally, rallycross and drift simmer on a dirt oval before watching this video...
The new micro winged sprints don't drift. It's all about keeping full speed around the turns.
I've been racing late models for 20 years another 10 years in street stocks but what I tell everyone who asks about throttle control I tell them listen to the motor in a turn if starts reving and your not moving let off let it get a bite and then go
What game are you using I am 15 and looking to get into late model racing so I was going to practice some on sim what game is this looks like realistic
how do I map my visor clean off? on Wheel? I've been digging around the settings cant seem to find it lol. I know this is terribly noob question, but I've had mud hit some TERRIBLE spots.
i need to know how to drive a real stock 8 for the future
I come form a racing family and you got the controlling the gas part right but the string was not right
I'm a dirt late model driver, and this is all true.
Well to set the car u would use the break u tap the break as your letting off the gas then as it’s rotating u get back into the gas

But I’ve never rlly played iracing so I couldn’t rlly say much but irl that’s what I personally do
What about break adjustment and shock setup and pull bar set up
I still can’t get the car to drift do you hold the gas when you tilt your controller stick to the left then right?
FYI, the definition you give of the scandi flick is pretty far off base. It's AKA a 'pendulum turn' because you steer away from the corner, applying breaks to load the front, the 'flick' the car back to the inside of the corner.
You got the Scandinavian Flick a bit wrong, and it is not used anymore in rallying
Hey Joe do you training 1 on 1 sessions
Can you feel the car spinning down the straight?
How do you keep the steering wheel from snapping back to the right when you straighten up in the straight away. Also how much force feedback do you run.
@JoeLuskRacing
5 жыл бұрын
First make sure your wheel is configured correctly. Steering sensitivity can cause issues. I run pretty low force feedback at like 2.6 strength. My wheel range is 1080 degrees. I'd first check your wheel range!
Can you go thru a fwd hornet racecar?
I just got iracing, are the dirt cars mods? Or are they already on the game
Pooh, you didn't continue the series...I was looking forward to the REAL tips...ya know....the cheats/exploits in the series. The stuff that really adds speed. I just started dirt. I know one of the main cheats in asphalt (used most effectively in the Street Stock series) is to ride the brake until those rotors are glowing orange...(Most Realistic Racing Simulator!)...like you could do that in real life. But I didn't know you could set track state in testing...good to know!
