How To Drill Sea Glass With a Dremel (UPDATED)

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Using a dremel drill, you can learn how to drill holes in beach glass. After drilling a hole, you can create many beautiful styled jewelry and ornaments.
I use a Dremel hand held which is then inserted into a Dremel workstation.
Supplies:
Dremel Drill: I use Model 395- I purchased mine on Grainger.com but that was along time ago so I would follow this link... .
www.amazon.com/Dremel-200-1-T...
Dremel Work Station: I purchased mine online at Home Depot. Follow this link...
www.amazon.com/Dremel-Worksta...
I use diamond drill bit BALL TIPS only. I purchase mine from eBay or drillglass.com
The larger the mm, the larger the size hole. I use anywhere from 1.4 mm to 2.9mm.

Hi! Thank you for a great video. I make sea glass jewellery and have just got this drill so I can start making new designs. Would you definitely recommend the work station, as I have been doing it all by hand so far (but each piece has taken me a while!)? Does the work station reduce the number of breakages of the drill bits? Thanks again!! xx

Hi! I ca only speak about my own experience and early on I tried without the workstation and it wasn't a good experience for me. The workstation keeps the whole process very steady and streamlined. I would guess it helps with preventing breakage. Good luck!

Hi there! I use 1.4mm - 2.6mm still bit. All depends on the size hole you’d like to drill.

Would I use the work station for seashells as well? Or would handheld be better? Thanks for this video. I’m a beginner and you make it seem very easy!

Hi! I would definitely use the workstation for drilling anything! It just keeps the drill steady. Good luck with the shells.

Hello! I am curious how long the Ball Tip Diamond Drill bits last for you? I have been using regular not ball tip and I tend to go through them very quickly. One drill bit will drill about 3-4 small pieces of sea glass. Thank you!

Hi Dawn! I am so sorry it took me this long to see your comment! I only use the ball tip and they last anywhere from 8 - 15 pieces of thinner to medium thickness.

Great video! How would you hold in place much smaller pieces of glass while drilling? Any suggestions?

It’s definitely tough! How small we talkin’? You could always use a tweezer or even a flat nose plier to hold it in place.

Hi! This is a link to the drill that I have. But I also use a work station with it and do not recommend drilling with JUST a hand held one (free hand). www.amazon.com/Dremel-200-1-Two-Speed-Rotary-Tool/dp/B002BAHF8W/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&gclid=CjwKCAiAl4WABhAJEiwATUnEF5hoVxJNqdGKv78RKrFn8PgD8jxipyx8nPuAP2g88_6eMSv3cttnSBoC_6QQAvD_BwE&hvadid=153663188326&hvdev=c&hvlocphy=9004541&hvnetw=g&hvqmt=b&hvrand=15493121921478539513&hvtargid=kwd-13183650&hydadcr=1606_9511211&keywords=dremel+395&qid=1610748678&sr=8-4&tag=googhydr-20

Hi! Thank you so much for this video. I'm just begining to make sea glass jewellery and and find it very interesting and generous. Now, I have tried to find a Dremel 395 drill in Québec but it seems to be very hard to find. And ordering from US, with delivery and exchange rates, it is a little bit expensive. Can you please suggest me order model of Dremel drill that will be ok for this kind of work? There is so much different models, I am just lost... Thank you so much for your help!!

Hi Johanna! I’m so sorry for your troubles with trying to find the right drill in Canada. Unfortunately I can’t steer you in the right direction outside of the US. I certainly can understand the high cost of shipping but that might be a reality. Here in the US the best places to buy is Home Depot or Lowe’s online. Otherwise Amazon would be your best bet to buy the Dremel handheld drill and then the workstation which is a separate purchase.

Hi! Only the drill bit is in the water and nothing else. Water is needed to minimize all the dust from the drilling and also minimizes the glass breaking.

Sorry for the delay! I have never beach combed in Queens. Long Island north shore is best but you have to walk far and try at low tide. Happy hunting!

@@micheleherbert2264 thanks--I like the beach off David Weld Sanctuary. But I also found a beach off Little Neck Bay, closer to where I live, which has lots of glass at low tide.
