HOW TO DRIFT AN AUTOMATIC CAR. No Clutch, No Problem. LETS SHRED IT!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

MANY of you have asked about drifting an automatic car, SO WE DID IT! We borrowed a Mustang from our homies over at the blue oval and had some fun! It was challenging with all of the new cars sensors and computers. But we disconnected the rear wheel speed sensors, and the ABS relays, BOOM, Lets shread! I am an idiot, all you need to do is disconnect the plug next to the airbox on the drivers side lol.
Big thanks to DRIFZ wheels, Nitto Tire, And +Lonestardrift for helping us shoot this instructional vid.
DRIVE SMART BUT HARD PEEPS!

As a horse person, this makes perfect sense to me. The way you explain it make the think that drifting is pretty much leg yielding a car (a movment in which the horse moves its body at an angle along a line and crosses its legs). Counter-steering also sounds quite familiar. Autocrossing and drifting are among the few motorsports I feel like I can actually understand.

Mental Defect Racing damn man. It was pretty wet that night and for some reason less people showed up so we just started dicking around and drifting and drag racing because it was the perfect was to slide. This dude in a crown Vic just comes by and was ripping it by himself for like a solid 2 minutes, almost hits a curb, and leaves 😂. I don't even think he came for the car meet, I think he just saw us drifting and joined us a bit.

So what happens when you mess up? I’m really curious about the physics. Would you rather just keep spinning or is there risk of you flipping?

  • @hulaganz

You have to have balls and stay in it. Worst case you spin out or mow some grass or rub some body work. Suddenly letting off the throttle ,panicking turning in and gaining sudden traction can flip you. Especially if you roll the tires under the rim. There's a video with jay Leno and Bobby Sox where they flip a gasser on its roof. It's an exaggerated example but you'll see where he goofed and flipped it.

I wish you told what kind of damage you should expect for the car when you press both brake and gas pedals at the same time to do burnouts. You can obviously do slow speed drifting with that technique, too, but you'll overheat your brakes and tires pretty fast. In addition, you have to be careful not to overheat your torque converter. And if you don't have old style automatic gearbox with torque converter but robotic gearbox, do not try pressing both brake and gas pedals to do burnout unless you want a clutch repair project, too. Obviously, any technique you use, the tires are gone after you start doing burnouts or drifting.

I saw you post about making this video on IG forever ago. I've been teasing the idea of putting effort into my auto GTO to learn to properly slide it because just having a pretty show car has gotten a little boring. I guess its time to throw some other wheels on the back and learn to do some cool stuff in it. My only concern is the longevity of the 4l60e trans with using the handbrake a lot.

My experience is, If you rally a car, you will break it. If you drift a car, you will break it. If you drag a car, you will break it.... I expect to have to repair stuff if I’m going to push performance limits, especially if I’m beating up on stock iron... It was snapping 2nd gear in my Indian scout, after an over bore/cam/exhaust/ignition upgrades, that taught me how to ride that kind of torque...

I'm trying to look for something fun but hard to find manuals not run to shit and practically salvaged right now in the price range, but a down payment on something in a payment range that can do it like a left over stang in auto (easy to find) is a safe bet to keep me happy, specially since I really like the 2005 to 2011 era
