    The fans who complain about bad calls or boo a call don’t understand the Motorsport side of things completely. I think it is a great thing that Ryan has done the past two seasons with giving insight as to how the judges and teams may see something which causes a decision to sway a certain way.

    This was a cool video, thanks for sharing about the wing, I've been watching old seasons of fd and often wondered how and when you decided to run it (and now that I know i feel really dumb for not picking up on that). I feel like you get a lot of fd hate because of smaller event organizers griping about the push for power. When you first find drifting and you're watching these guys with 1000 hp purpose built race cars you can get a skewed perception that it's what's required. when I was first trying to learn about everything your channel was the first one that really made me realize power wasn't necessary when your learning and doing it for fun/lower levels of competition (grassroots stuff). Your page has been one of the most helpful tbh.

    Drifting in the couple years I have been following it/going to events have drastically grown. It's outrageous. The first time I went to OSW, there was maybe 15-20 drivers and only 5-6 Class A drivers. The latest event I went to at OSW, there had to be at least 75 drivers and 20-25 class A drivers. It's so awesome to see drifting grow and being a part of the community.

    Travis 3 yeah I get the whole bigger picture of why they did it, tricky clutch cheat codes, driver assists and expensive/overkill setups. But it’s almost like discrimination to handicapped people, if not then put a note in there saying “adaptive controls for physically impaired may be permitted upon review”

    I am very disappointed to hear FD won't be returning to Canada (Montreal, QC) in 2018, I almost wish that they would have changed to Shannonville Speedway in Ontario as the customs issues much more far and few between in this province, specifically the Gananoque and Niagara crossings. I race dirt ovals and know many racers from the states who travel frequently this way to race in the circuits. There are loop holes and such to get away with winnings crossing the border, although criminal issues as you stated for some teams wouldn't change. Guess it just means I am definitely now going to have to get a passport and drive at GridLife this year since it's such a big trip for Canadians to make it to a large american drift event now, even if not a pro competition. Just my 2c. Your shit is rad.

    As much as I would love them to run Shannonville I don't think they would get the croud they need. It's not close enough to a major city. I have a hard enough time getting friends in Toronto out to events that only cost $10-15 to watch and have almost constant action for the entire day simply because they think it's too far.

    Hey man, it's great to see you do stuff indoors again, I'm really hoping for your post event analysis to be a more regular thing during competition. If I wasn't agreeing with you, I'd call your last couple of minutes kinda salty... FD certainly had to evolve from a lesser status of motorsport event to where it was at for the last 2 years, just the same it will need to further develop to adjust to today's requirements. To me, there are three main chapters to US drift competition: 1. The Tony Angelo days of self identified idiots throwing together something, basically an Initial D parking lot crew 2. International competition saw you guys shredding it and decided to get in on the action with smalltime sponsors. 3. Tuerck'd was over, people asked themselves "Are we still Grassroots? because my car costs as much as a GT3 car and a wall rub equals 10k in damages". The next step is uncertain but it needs a clear mindset to follow. No more fucking around!

  • @chelseadenofa

    @chelseadenofa

    6 жыл бұрын

    Yea for sure man. Its not salty, its all about pushing people to a positive future. I think that there is room for drifting and people of all types. Dipshit rippers, and professional motorsports people... I feel like I am both.

  • @derpherbert3199

    @derpherbert3199

    6 жыл бұрын

    Hey Chelsea, thanks for answering! There is basically zero chance you'll read this but being a dipshit ripper with a "seat time" car (used to be called "missile cars", thank god that's not a thing anymore) and/or something fancier in the garage pushing 400 wheel with coil overs is totally affordable now. As you said, 10 years ago you'd been the man with something we'd call a moderate tune on a stock engine today, not to speak of aero or fender kits that actually fit. For some weird reason I enjoy the Hoonigan's #shitcar so much, they made it shitty by design. Like the equivalent of a "used jeans era" pants that kinda looks good now by brutal contrast (Oh God what am I saying).

    When talking about better tyre regulation I remembered Stav-tech's post about British drift championship's problems (quote from his FB page): "Well, a certain team, who happened to have a pretty amazing amount of forward momentum (ie grip), esp' as they supposedly ran the same tyres last year, were actually using 285+ wide tyres specially made from the factory to say 265 on the sidewalls!" Also I remember the season, when Achiles came to drifting. There were people in Europe selling their sponsor tyres and buying Achiles, because of how much better they were that season. Hopefully they will find a way to keep tyres sensible, because tyres not lasting 2 runs (for example Zestino tyres on Andrius Vasiliauskas cars) is just ridiculous.

    Great video, I wonder about the “everything in the frame rails” rule. Been following Matt Field’s vette build and they’ve got the oil tank inside the fender. I wonder if that will be passed because it’s behind strut towers? I mean it’s protected but still in a crash zone. I’m sure they would’ve cleared it up before doing it but it just made me think about that.

    pretty sure MF was saying the in discussion with kevin well as he mentions the main frame rails of the body are on the outer sill, thats why he could get away with a flat plate for the wheel intrusion bars into the foot wells rather than another bar from the front leg of the cage. so im guessing that as they are on the outside of the car this puts the oil tank and fuel tank inside the line of the rails

    I think the negativity might come from the way how Aaron/Lone Star Drift sees it and tells thousands of people his opinion that everything is there about the money and just a great driver cant just jump into FD without tons of money. The thing is, every sport at the top level is shit tons of money, but as it is top - it represents the greatest and most professional of any sport. And to be the best, you always spend huge amount of time and money to learn, invent and find advantage that can make you the best!.. Huh, i believe its time for another beer :)

    Thats nice! :) And thats what I think Aaron gets/tells everybody wrong. Better be happy and proud that so many drifters have found a way to afford program for FD(or any other top series) by working their asses off, not just cry that everything is expensive and everybody driving FD is rich son of a b*tch.. I, for example, have heard some negativity to HGK/Kristaps Bluss and their e92 - that their build cost tons of money, they are millionares with unlimited seat time and so on. But the thing is, they make money by building great and sick cars and their car represents their work, is as as a freakin dope ad. If they drove shitty missile car, why would anybody pay them to build anything?.. Plus, on FD they have a team of..3.. :D

    some awesome info and points in this vid , but id like to hear your PERSONAL opinion on the FD 3rd place rules. thats my biggest hate of FD as deciding who takes a podium place based on a run they did before in possibly different conditions ( rain qualifying dry battles etc ) is total crap. it robs the fans of a battle , it robs the drivers of seeing who was actually better when it came to it , the only way to decide who gets to stand on the podium and take championship points is to line up 2 drivers and let them run. ok some people will argue its to make qualifying more relevant and have an impact on the championship. But if thats the case just award points for the top 3 qualifying drivers. That way everyone pushes harder and you don't have to undermine the battle system comp drifting was founded on.

    I feel as if there hasn't been a whole lot of hype for this year, though it's like 50 days away. Not much media coverage, the drivers that I do follow I don't see much about it, or like other drivers have either lost/dropped sponsor's or don't appear to have a solid program anymore. A handful have either left or have joined force's to make it easier for their budget, I don't know of anyone besides Matt Field who has actually built a new chassis for this year (Only because he made a video series on it) . I just don't know what's going on haha, I suppose we'll see soon. Great Video, Amazing points and topics. ❤

    I personally dont think that banning wings on those tracks was a step in the right direction just because I think that there can be some solid development that can be put into the aerodynamic side of drifting. What I think would work better is force the wings themselves to be placed farther forward and smaller in width so they cant make contact with the wall at all. With that said, the rule made with the intent of safety so I really can't complain.

  • @chelseadenofa

    I agree with this. My e46 wing was on sliders to go in and out for different tracks and aero... Sadly many others aren't.

    Hey Chelsea great vid thanks for all the updates. About the foot operated clutch I seen a lot of comments about Rob and your response about launch control, also think it's toward how Rob hydro also operates his clutch and keeping able drivers away from getting a mechanical advantage over a possible driver error. Also have a question, you said the giveaway is to help fund future plans and projects any chance gridlife Midwest is in those plans?

    I agree, drifting is growing so fast and I think it's going to grow more, at an even faster rate in the future. Look at the KZread channels related to drifting like Adam lz, tj hunt, Haggard, you, ricer Miata to an extent. Whether or not they are primarily about drifting or a mix of other things, all of them combined is a huge market that is predominantly filled with (if I had to guess) early teen all the way up to middle aged adults. All of whom are interested in cars and probably drifting as well, and with the popularity of online entertainment businesses should want to enter this market. I'm almost 21 years old and I can't remember the last time I watched TV, I only watch KZread for entertainment and when you have that sort of hold, especially on a younger market you have a much higher chance of developing brand loyalty or developing buzz about a product or company. I never really knew what companies like BC, or enjuku (to name a couple) were until I started getting into watching drifting on KZread and honestly if I were to need parts on a build or whatever those are the places I would go first, and that is precisely the reason why these companies should continue to invest or begin investing in getting into drifting..... Damn... I could write an essay on this for my marketing class.

    @Chelseadenofa I believe that manual release of clutch rules is so that FD drivers can't run a clutch damper aka clutch release valve (similar to drag racing) for traction.

  • @chelseadenofa

    You can run them, just have to be foot operated. I ALWAYS ran clutch flow control valves in my cars to keep the drivetrain together.

    First off Just got my shirt!!! Hell yeah stoked. Secondly what are your thoughts on overall funding of FD. why are we not seeing the Nascar and f1 style live video?? I'm really surprised we haven't seen a company or network step up in this area. Another part of the $ aspect is prize money. Why are we not seeing higher payouts for winning individual events as well as the overall points win. Compared to other sports FD is not compensating the winners in a way that major investors like I mentioned above are willing to partner with, sponsor events or series. We are seeing this in some small facets like black magic, blackview etc. but honestly that's still small time. I know I'm going down the internet hate path of selling out but honestly this is a professional sports and should be managed like one. Thanks man

  • @chelseadenofa

    @chelseadenofa

    6 жыл бұрын

    The live stream is getting better. Not totally up to par, but steps in the right direction. We are on Fox Sports as well. Its managed well, but still new. I agree, payouts should be better, BUT FD does keep our costs low on entries, AND give us a place to build our own budgets. A lot of other series have extremely high entry fees and almost 0 payout.
