How to Drift WITHOUT Spinning Out (Assetto Corsa / Real Life Tutorial)

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

An experienced drifter explains how to drift without spinning out in real life and Assetto Corsa. Learn to analyze your mistakes and adjust your technique to fix spinouts. I explain why your car spins during each phase of drift and how to prevent it by changing the timing or amount of countersteer angle and throttle input. This drifting tutorial also provides tips specific for sim drifters using Logitech and gear drive wheels, who may struggle with transitions due to the slow wheel rotation speed of gear drive wheel bases.

For anyone completely new to drifting - what I found to be helping me the most was actually not using 900° wheel rotation. I tried drifting with a 900° rotation for like 10 hours and couldn't really keep the car in drifts for too long or even transition really and got kinda frustrated but then I read about turning it down as a beginner. When I switched to 540° wheel rotation I actually managed to do some good drifts and even chain corners. 4 hours after I can do a complete Lap in Drifters Paradise (the map Kame is using here). The tips from this video and the reduction of my wheel rotation worked out beautiful!

something i can add from myself is if u using a g29 ur throttle pedal probably has a short click so in assetto u have to go into the settings and then control>axis u have to change max power of throttle to 60-70%, then u can more accurately feel a throttle, it helped me a lot so i thought i can share it with u.

This helped me so much. Understanding how throttle affects the snapback on corner exit. Slowly getting out of the throttle as the car re-centers is the key. I also have found that a high FFB on assetto is needed for the wheel to self rotate. Then, adjusting FFB in the wheel driver for overall force. Also "slip effects" in AC settings seems to have an impact along with keeping FFB tweaks in CSP off. (I'm on a Thrustmaster TX)

Tey Tyes I agree 100%. Basically you have to build up experience over time, until you can predict what inputs will cause what changes to the car a second or two from now as you drive. Once you start to amass enough info to get more accurate predictions you’ll be over the hump and drifting gets a lot more fun and rewarding 😁

I have a G27, getting a LUT file and messing with other ffb settings got it pretty good in AC. As a learner it improved my ability to link "easier" tracks without many issues + some others after more practice. And if I manage the pedals just a little bit it self steers pretty strong and good. I have discovered that tapping of the brakes technique while experimenting by myself, it gave the wheel some extra time to rotate, I was pretty much letting go of it everywhere. But I have found that part of it depended on the car pack/car used, although it might just be me still learning and I know nothing about suspension tuning etc..

The CSL Elite wheelbase was pretty good from what I remember, though the pedal set that comes with it isn’t as good as the Clubsport v3 pedals. If you are strapped for cash it’s an adequate wheel for drift simulation 👍🏻 Though you might buy a DD later (due to the wheel breaking or you wanting more performance in the future) resulting in spending more money total, so it’s also good to take a long term look at buying a DD wheelbase which is a more robust long term solution

As a logitech user, I have found that reducing the degrees of rotation from 900 degrees to around 720 degrees. I agree that the wheel is slow to respond and I find myself "chucking" the wheel. Balisage that’s a good tip 👍🏻 Reducing degrees of rotation is a “sim specific” option that works fine, your reasoning is spot on. I probably should have suggested it, sometimes my IRL experience makes me “drive around” issues that can’t be adjusted easily on a real car haha 😅

You can definitely drive around it, it’s just not something that happens in real cars unless they have a big issue with caster and steering geometry settings. Of course throwing the wheel is a stylistic preference at that point, like most drivers I do it for some corners/situations, but not all ✌🏻

I only just started drifting 2 days ago and ive been initiating by pressing in the clutch and pulling the handbrake but ive been trying to learn how to clutch kick to initiate my drifts. Ive been having lots of trouble but hopefully this guide will help 👍

hey mate thanks for the effort in this video. Recently been trying to drift and this video is SLOWLY getting me there. Getting to the point where I can almost link 3 parts of the klutch kickers! I also have a small idea for your channel its called 'Drift Surgery' where people send in clips of there drifting, and you critique/point them in the problem area. Thanks for the great content, and great community over on Discord who have been really helpful for me when I was trying to decide what wheel to buy!

JohanVanDerWylde that could be neat, I may give that a try if I can make time for it later. I’m glad the videos and discord are helping you get into sim drifting! 💪🏻

I take that assist comment back. I increased the front caster and camper and now its working just as you say. I dont even flick it as much if not at 99% of the time. I appreciate the tips it has helped me a lot. Thanks.

Yes sir, glad to help! The flick technique can still be helpful on fast transitions and for attempting backward entries (see my video on them) but often time you don’t *need* to use them unless you just prefer to 👍🏻 Happy sliding!

I'm a natural born drift god. When I was a baby, I only crawled sideways. When I was 3 I kept ruining all my tricycle tyres. When I was 6 my radio flyer bladed snow sled was faster with 90 degrees angle. I'm still waiting for my hall of Fame invitation but I decided to go ahead and commission my Greatest of all time plaque. But I'm humble though. Probably the humblest driver that ever lived really. Don't feel too intimidated to ask me questions Bois. No flash photography please 😜
