How To Dress Up Your Engine!

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

It's somewhat by accident that I 'dressed up' my engine. I was really just trying to fit my AC compressor and solve the vent problem with my valve covers. However I found a kit, and a set of valve covers that worked perfectly for my application.
In this video I go over the installation of that kit as well as the valve covers.

Just as I moved to Florida 3 years ago my AC died... I got a job working outside, so I get all nice and sweaty then get in a 110+ degree car and head home... not fun. I've been fixing my own cars with Eric's videos for 7 or so years now, watched all of the AC videos and properly replaced the compressor, vacuumed the system and refilled it, did the dryer receiver and the expansion valve as well... finally have AC. Point is YES, when it's very hot you're dying for some AC. Honestly on long trips of it being over 100 you can start to feel faint, it's not a good thing.

It must be so rewarding to know that you built that engine yourself, and it is a workhorse like no other. It is nice that you have power steering and A/C on the vehicle also since the A/C will definitely be needed in the Summer heat.

Those rubber and steel gaskets are the only way to fly on a 302. The 130 amp is OE for a 90s Taurus, also an awesome part. Stock 80s alternators have terrible low rpm output.

Large Body 2 holes all always 130 amp.. Ford uses them in many a truck and vans.. I would add. These things get hot above 50% loads. Which is why ford uses a 175 amp fuse and #4 stranded wire from alternator too battery....

I have used CVF Racing parts in the past. Their parts are well made with a great finish and fit. Due to continued failures, I finally bit the bullet and spent $2300 on a Vintage Air FrontRunner system. The Vintage Air system came with all the components needed to ensure the proper fit and operation of the accessory drive. Aluminum water pump, 170 amp alternator, power steering pump, belt tensioner, all the ARP fasteners needed, and a signal Serpentine belt. The system has been installed for three months now with about 5K miles on it including a desert run with 100+ temperatures. Before I installed the FrontRunner system I never got more than a thousand miles without a failure. The only problem remaining is all the rusty junk I need to replace under the hood. The upfront price on the Vintage Air system made me say bad words but with it said and done it is the better value.

  • @ericthecarguy

The Vintage Air FrontRunner system is a beautiful piece of art but the best part of the system is I bolted on a 100K miles of reliability. The only complaint I have is the support from Vintage Air was not worth the time I put into. Unlike CVF Racing that is always helpful. I really love the Fairmont Videos and will watch all the videos you can produce. Remember family comes first then the Fairmont, import repair videos, ETCG1 and last and most likely least sleep. Keep up the great work and thanks for being on KZread.

No I didn't. Wished I had, but that day in the shop I just wanted to work and listen to music.

It is beautiful. My Harley was chromed out like that. I spent more time cleaning it, than I did riding it. 😂 That motor will require a full time job just to keep it clean. But hey, she sure is purtty!

Two things Eric, one, I never use my a/c. My roof comes off #ttop, and I'm ALL about that lifestyle(sunburn and all). Two, maybe you did look into it but vintage air makes kits for almost EVERYTHING. Jay Leno stands behind there products and jay is much smarter than I. Both those being said I'm sure there is good reasoning you have made the choices you have and although a die hard bowtie fanboy I really hope you enjoy this project on the streer

How do you figure out what way to run the belt around all the pullies? How do you figure out the correct length of belt? How do you figure out the correct tension of the belt across everything?

In order. Ribbed side goes to ribbed pulley. Smooth pulley goes to smooth side of the belt. The belt came with the kit and was sized for it. After a while you develop a feel for belt tension. kzread.info/dash/bejne/jIeIvMaNcaXFcdY.html

what pcv valve are you running? since you are turbo charged you could be pressurizing the crank case therefore pushing pressure up to the valve covers through the oil holes. (this believe it or not can be a loss of 20 hp because of the back pressure on the piston rings) The stock 5.0 pcv can be upgraded to the svo one or better yet go to a catch can

ok so are you venting where the pcv was to a filter / catch can or did you plug it? if you plugged it I think you still will have an issue.

Ive always wondered why people put valve cover breather filters on everyday cars. This example is an exception for sure, but I've always felt keeping it routed into the intake on your average engine is best.
