How To Dress Like As In Babylon Berlin - Wardrobe, Vintage Suits, Overcoats, Shoes and more ...
In this video I explain what make the suits and other garments in the TV show "Babylon Berlin" attractive for modern people. You may learn here how to adapt the style without looking like an reeanactor.
Topics are jackets, shoes, fabrics, shape, style and accessories. We talk about Herringbone, Donegal Tweed and other aspects.

Extremely compelling topic. I like wearing a waistcoat almost daily with a pocket watch worn as a functional item ,not as a reenacting prop, also a fedora and white button down shirt can create the basic 1930s to 50s vibe without looking like a living historian

Thank you for your wonderful video! In my "collection" there are three suits only (trousers, waistcoats and jackets): dark brown, grey and hazelnut, all in brushed heringbone. Together with some striped shirts, from white with small blue stripes to light grey with brown stripes all pieces can be combined with eachother. Together with a black coat and old style ties (with Paisley pattern) in red it looks really good. Of course you need braces and the shoes and your hat should match to the colors. I like brown hat to grey trousers and a grey hat to brown trousers. ;)

Oh yes. I have been dressing in a similar vein for years now, which probably attracted me to your channel in the first instance. Oh, yeah, I sometimes get stares and comments but the comments are always complimentary, to which I have learnt to say "thank you". In this time of casual fashion people appreciate the effort but they are afraid not to conform... As you know, Tim, it is style vs fashion. Style wins hands down, every time and I like your style. 😀

you nailed every detail and could agree more, some people get it so wrong and dress like they're living in the past, taking ideas from old shows is a fantastic way of learning and improving your style. I would have also added finding vintage items and tailoring them is a great way to get an individual look without a custom look, loved the video. cheers from Ireland...

Totally agree on the Dainite/Rubber soles - much more practical and hard-wearing - Sean Connery in Goldfinger wore them - so good enough for me :). On the jackets, just to share my experience, I purchased a vintage/2nd hand Harris Tweed Hacking jacket on ebay for under €50 - then €40 to get it altered slightly - now fits perfectly with the waist taken in/darted slightly - and should last another lifetime. On shoes - recently bought my first pair of Loakes ("Badminton" Brogues) whilst visiting Edinburgh - love them - Dainite sole and Derby style for the wider foot - unbelievable comfort straight out of the box. Thanks again for another great video.

Again a pleasure to see you again. Tim, I realize you could be my younger brother, we have many things in common. I myself love shoes, suits, watches, my glasses and my ring. When I lived in Hamburg, (for many years...) I loved to go shopping in downtown, there was a nice, well settled taylor nearby the city hall and the Monckebergstreet. I still have some of their jackets, could be for more than 25 years now and they are still in good shape. This video has a very nice format, I would enjoy to see more like it. Please keep it up. Thanks much and my best regards.

Thanks Tim for the digression into fashion. It tracks with fine wristwatches for sure, so continue please. The closest thing I've noticed in recent years to men trying to have a classic winter style is the peacoat. But even that may have been treated as _trendy_ and hence, "out of fashion." At any rate it seemed the best match for jeans since those coats aren't long.

Jeans? I think one should be really careful combining jeans with a substantial, well-made and historically inspired jacket in order to keep the whole image together. Matching colour, denim type, fit, a matching belt or suspenders (and not all jeans fits will go nicely with suspenders - I guess, you'd need a higher rise), the right leg length - jee, there's so much to consider it can make a whole new video! Then, what about vests? Doesn't a good jacket without a vest give already at least the end of 50's type of look? 🤔 Great video and subject, really thought-inspiring, thanks a bunch!

Are you evolving into a fashion channel? As for your point about fabric, can't you do 100% wool, but in a thinner blend such as tropical weight so you don't become a sweaty mess when you go inside? Also a point taken in shoes. I live just 15 or so miles from the Allen Edmonds factory so I pretty much buy nothing but Allen Edmonds, which features classic American styles. And like you, I mostly wear rubber soled dress shoes these days. and when I find a shoe with a leather sole, I have my local cobbler put rubber sole savers on the bottom so I don't have to nervously watch the weather forecast before putting on my dress shoes in the morning. As for accessories, we don't have as many options as men of the 30s. Wrist watch for sure, but hats are tricky. If you can pull it off, good for you. I am not 100% comfortable wearing anything other than functional beanies in winter. Other things men of the 30s used as accessories were a lighter, cigarette case, money clip, cufflinks, and tie bar. Most men don't smoke so lighter and cigarette case are pretty much out. And most men don't wear cufflinks or tie bars anymore. I do think a money clip is a good accessory and there are some great modern takes on the idea, either combined with a cardholder or not. Finally, I am considering a nice pen as an accessory, but I am wary since I am always losing pens. But, if I had some sort of leather organizer that fit in a jacket pocket that I could use to carry a nice pen, a small pocket knife, and either a small notebook or some business cards, that might be a cool thing to wear as an every day carry.

Not exactly a fashion channel, but I will enlarge the varieties of topics quite a bit. And I feel that topics like this video are very close to the values of a mechanical timepiece. Thin fabric simply doesn't have the look. AE is a great brand!

@@CasebackWatches I agree that the two topics do fit together and if you are going to wear a nice watch, you ruin the effect if you wear terrible shoes, or a giant sweat shirt. Sort of a modern convenience that has become a necessity, but not really very stylish.

10 years? For bespoke I think a good suit should last at least 20 with careful wear. Your suit is interesting but a buttoned breast pocket is a rare sight. Agreed on leather soles lethal in the wet but any cobbler will put rubber after market soles on for you. But don’t let them grind the welts. If you buy an expensive wool jacket or suit take precautions against moths with chemical means in the wardrobe and put the garments in a freezer for a few minutes if signs of the latter appear.

I like your style but there is just one thing which is annoying for me. I am talking about a blue skull on the table. It looks cheap, too modern and I can't understand it's meaning for you and your chanell?

Doesn't have a meaning. It's a traditional skull from Mexico and I don't find him cheap. On the contrary i really like the color.

FAT...people got FAT so the shapeless silhouette began to be a necessity to fit more people withina small range of sizes. Oh...and greed.....less attention to detail=lighter budget for creators.....more $$$$ for the boss men.
