Steps so you can screenshot: (Optional) Draw outline/plan where hair is Draw the general shape of the hair Add strands and layers Fill with base color and alpha lock Add shadow at the bottom of the hair Use the base color to add “strands” (the erase step) With a mid color add a shadow at the top of the head/large chunks, and blur Recolor mid tone to places closer to the skin (this makes the hair look thinner and more natural) Add highlight color to the top of the head (don’t overuse). (^ Screen/Add works well) Erase part of the highlights (Optional) Use textures to make the hair look more unique. They are at the bottom of the ibis pen library

When I was younger, my problem with hair was that I would look at it as each individual strand, especially in complex positions or curly, wavy, braids, or hair that isn't straight, basically. Separating it into simple shapes really helps a lot. Curls become really easy when you think of them as orange slices or cylinders depending on the type of curls you're drawing. Drills are easy when you turn them into triangles. I recommend using references at first when you draw hair. It doesn't have to be a REAL person per se, because using your favorite artist is also very helpful. It's important to know that it takes a lot of practice just like anything does, and starting simple is essential. Uh... I said a little more than I expected (wavy hair used to destroy me).
