I have been binge watching your videos. You may remember, and I am not finished yet. You have indeed taught, and inspired me. I am again stunned with your special gift, and mastery of creating an almost 3D perspective in each of your paintings. I have been painting all of my life, and still am learning how to do that very thing. I have learned more watching you, than from all the classes I have taken. @@Sheshina_Ekaterina You are very welcome! I just pulled out similar colors and am about to try my hand at this galaxy tutorial. It'll be my 2nd attempt at a soft pastel drawings. My concern is that it'll be with white paper. It's thick so layering isn't a concern. My concern is that I don't know if I should color my paper a dark color first or just use it as is. I thought maybe I should cover the white with black acrylic ..? Any Suggestions would be so helpful

Christina! You need a black toned paper. Use gouache, or watercolor. In this video, I use ordinary sandpaper. Granularity 1000, size 23х28 cm. I buy in the construction shops.

The main thing is that acrylic underlayer is not slippery. I do not use any fixatives.

Savera, I do not recommend taking the white paper. For pastel painting, it is best to take the tinted paper. I use regular sandpaper, grit 1000 size 23x28 cm. I buy in the construction shop.

@@xisriaellaan1734 Огромное спасибо! Наждачку я использую зернистостью 800 и 1000 и если наносить тонкие слои, то совсем небольшой расход пастели. Но этот материал я использую для небольших этюдов. Если рисую на выставку или на заказ, то использую профессиональную пастельную бумагу (абразивную люблю больше всего).

DearSheshina. I am using EMERY paper. It is dark grey like yours. I have tried 800 and 1500 grit. Have you tried either of these? You like the 1000 grit. Would you fix it with a proper fixative? If not, then how do you stop the dust from falling off. Or, do you blend it well in? Some of the smaller areas I can’t use my fingers and a blending stump seems to lift the pastel. What do you think I am doing wrong. Rob

@@robcampbell8759 I use 800 and 1000 grit. I don't use fixatives. I draw in very thin layers, without hard pressing on a pastel. At the finish, I can make accents and press the pastel harder.

How do you find the Kohinoor pastels compared to the Rembrandt, Ekaterina? BTW - nice work as always! 👍🙌💫

Jay! Thank you very much! I have a set of Koh-i-Noor Toison D'or 48 colors and I really like it! Good quality. It is cheaper than Rembrandt, so I advise to buy for starters.😊🎨👍

Jay! In Russia, I saw only Koh-i-noor 48 colors for sale. But probably there are big sets. At the expense of pastels JACK RICHESON no I did not try it. Recently I ordered Terry Ludwig and Great American. Wonderful quality!!!👍👍👍But VERY Expensive! jacksonsart.com
