Hi, When Launching It says "sign in to live" how do I bypass this as I can't save the game

Just wanted to say thanks. This is the first downgrader (with tutorial) that actually has fixes that worked with my game (fusionfix never ran correctly with other downgraders/versions). I had to reinstall and re-downgrade my game because a certain mod wasn't working, AND when I install ANY kind of reshade to my game EVEN after I downgrade it PROPERLY, it says "application cannot start properly". Do you know what the problem is? ICEnhancer 3.0 was working fine until I had to reinstall my game and now, I can't even use it anymore, idk what the hell's going on and I've tried several things.

unfortunately the ftp servers for the downgrade are down, i saw on the web page that there's a way to do it offline but it's a very complex method if there's another version let me know. great tutorial anyway, very well explained

Got it working after a couple of hiccups. for some reason the 1070 and the radio downgrade zip files wouldn't download, but reading the error page i fixed this by downloading them manually from the forums and redowngrading. also weirdly it flagged my exe file as being modded even though it was as fresh an install as you could get. i have never played gta iv before and just got this from the rockstar launcher, i just ignored that and it seems fine. finally i was getting to the loading screen with the cartoons of the characters and the music, but a few seconds in the game would crash. i fixed this by changing the PlayGTAIV exe to always run in administrator mode. all working now, hope this helps someone :)

The first thing I did before this guide was to verify the integrity of my game files via Steam for this, for which Steam verified that all files were original and intact. So not sure why the installer gave a warning about the lack of integrity (i.e. the MD5 hashes not matching) for the default Steam installation, so I proceeded anyways. I proceeded with the downgrader as per the instructions here, but when I launched PlayGTAIV.exe I got a black screen with a white loading bar at the bottom that immediately crashed. After reading the comments here, it is said that launching the downgrade through the Steam installation folder can cause issues. My Steam games are installed to a secondary HDD rather than the usual C:\Program Files\ directory, but nonetheless I figured it could cause an issue so I moved the folder anyways. Running the same downgrader on the backup (manually made before running downgrader) that I moved to a non-Steam folder on the aforementioned secondary HDD, I got the same error about the hashes that I ignored again. Gonna run through the installer with my options to see if anyone can reproduce this: - version 1.0.8.0 - No GFWL - Sneed Radio, "Also install no EFLC music in IV fix" not selected + New Vladivostok - ScriptHook for 1.0.8.0 - Simple Traffic Loader - SteamAchievements - xliveless (automatically selected) - ZMenuIV v23.06.25.1 - ZolikaPatch v6.9.8.2 - Skipped file downgrading. Gotta make new saves for the mods I want to install anyways. - Recommended Commandline, no optional -windowed box selected - Exited installer WITHOUT pressing the Play GTA IV button. I don't trust it. Looks like this worked. It looks like the major issue was the location of GTA IV while running the downgrader. Keeping this here if it helps anyone.

Tried hitting play gta iv. Doesnt work, added exceptions to anti virus. Moved file location. Nothing is seeming to work. Trying this out on rog ally windows 11. Just launches into black screen, 5 seconds goes back to desktop. Really wanted to enjoy this on the go, but looks like ill just be playing vanilla.

Okay, after long hours I have found a solution. Make sure the game isn't in the steam programs folder before you start the process. I'm not sure, but it worked for me. My new question is how to use windows live

@@NotAJ oddly when I moved file location through downgrade program it didn't work. But having a pre-made back up worked, leaving the steam vanilla copy alone. Selecting the back up as the copy downgraded. This should help the few that had a similar issue, may be windows 11/ROG ALLY thing. But confirmed working on device, modded even further.

I downgraded in this exact way several times, and I am experiencing an anti-piracy measure that makes it so I cannot access computers. I downgraded GTA 4 awhile ago without this issue though that version sadly got auto updated by steam, which is why I am downgrading again. Any help would be greatly appreciated Edit: Yes I do own the Steam version if anyone was wondering

What’s up, Mohammed. I’ve hardly heard of the issue. Are you launching through the “LaunchGTAIV.exe” or “PlayGTAIV.exe”, or are you launching the game through Steam? This makes all the difference in the world.

@@NotAJ The downgrader didn’t give me a “LaunchGTAIV.exe” file, I’ve tried multiple versions of the downgrader but none of them did. I launch the game through “PlayGTAIV.exe” because I know the game will auto-update if I use steam. I was pretty sure that the first time I downgraded the game awhile ago I had a “LaunchGTAIV.exe”, but I checked the folder and I didn’t have it. Thanks.

Great tutorial, anyways i just did this with wlive. Constantly Id encounter an error like black screen on quitting. Are there patches for this? Also as an offline gamer, is it possible to play pc-to-pc LAN (coop/freemode) with my bro?

I think the only possible way to play with others is using XBOX Live, so it must be something involving an online network. Also, I would try downloading ZolikaPatch and also making sure that your Task Manager is prioritized as a window compared to other games - so this way when quitting it, you can close it easily.

Thank you! One tip is to right click on GTA IV.exe, go to Properties, and find a place where it asks you to check the “Disable full screen optimization” option. If it’s checked, uncheck it. If it’s not checked, then check it.

What’s up, SyLex! Okay, so not to worry, it’s not a virus at all, and this happens with everyone including myself. Windows Defender basically believes that “ZolikaPatch.asi” is a bad thing to have, but it isn’t. So it keeps on stopping you from playing because it thinks you shouldn’t have it, but you would need it to stop it from asking for a product key. All you’d need to do is basically add an exclusion in Windows Defender (Virus & Protection Settings) for your entire GTA IV folder. Once you do that, you should be good to enter the game without any errors. Make sure that “ZolikaPatch.asi” is still in your game’s folder, too. I hope this helps!! ❤️

Depends on which version you downgraded to! If you downgrade to version 1040, then TBOGT and TLAD won’t be available. The later versions of the game possess those two DLCs.

@@standoidontwantalastname6500 I think I finally figured it out. I was tinkering for hours last night and managed to fix the issue for myself. When you use the downgrader, you move the game files to a separate place. For me, I moved them to a folder I created called GRAND THEFT AUTO. Once the downgrade process is complete, for some reason you end up with all the main files you need in your own folder (GRAND THEFT AUTO for me), but there’s another folder within this folder called GTAIV which contains the original files too. I figured out that having both sets of these files messes up booting the game. So go into your own folder (GRAND THEFT AUTO), then open the folder GTAIV. Select all the files and folders within GTAIV, and CUT them. Go back out to the previous folder (GRAND THEFT AUTO) and PASTE them all there. There will be some files/folders that already exist and ask if you want to overwrite them. Select SKIP for all of these. Once these have all been pasted into the new folder (GRAND THEFT AUTO), you can delete the GTAIV folder that exists and everything inside of it. Hope this helps. Worked a treat for me with the steam version of the game. Then just use the file PlayGTAIV to launch the game

I don't even get what the point of having that folder in there is because it just seems like a backup of the original files, except it literally asks if you want to backup the original files on the downgrader. Is doing that an intended process and they somehow expect it to be obvious? because it really... isn't, lol. but i'm glad you figured it out either way

Sorry for the late reply, my friends! I’m glad you were able to figure it out ❤️ Alternatively, you just need to allow Windows Defender to have an exclusion over your GTA IV folder. The reason the game goes black and then immediately shuts away is because of Windows Defender. Sadly, it hates “ZolikaPatch.asi”.

I would either (a) install XLiveLess, or (b) go ahead and downgrade without multiplayer being enabled :)

either you downgraded to 1040, or what do you specifically mean by "not working"? From what I know there are two major issues with the DLCs. 1:Anti Piracy Measures activating making the gane unplayable. 2: Game crashing when switching radios in the DLCs.

@@antoinebaron3862 I found the problem already. Thank you though. And by not working I meant when clicking on EFLC the Windows Live log in pops up, forcing you to "sign in" before playing.

im playing on a fresh vanilla steam version and the downgrader forces me to select the executable file of IV, when I click next the yellow error M5 something appears telling me my version is modded. the only extra file it contains is my commandline txt file with one line of code that forces the game to display my real graphic card memory (my version is 1.2.0.5.9)

The yellow error code that appears saying that your copy may be corrupt or modded, especially if your game is vanilla (as it probably is), then you can just ignore it - I get the same one all the time.

I downloaded the cracked game and I've downgraded GTA 4 but when I run it on PlayGtaiv I experience a force close. Is that my fault when downgrading? Or I run it on the original GTAIV because it's a crack, but I don't really understand what's next

I get a lot of bugs during cutscenes, but sometimes gameplay, and it only happened after downgrading. I can barely watch cutscenes without it going to a black screen for a second and then lags back to the action. Installing an older version of FusionFix seemed to remedy that but only by a tiny bit. And on top of that, when the scene ends, sometimes it says LOADING…. and then black screens and freezes the game. What could cause this if you might know? Thanks!

What’s up, Magnum! I’ve not heard of this issue about the game going into a black screen intermittently during cutscenes! In fact, I’ve never seen it even remotely before! Do you have any ENB graphics installed by chance? I doubt it, but it’s a good question to ask. Also, do you play in windowed mode? Do you also happen to have the ASI loaders too? I’ve known that the ASI loaders help prevent the LOADING issue! Let me know please :)

Should I use the 2.1 version or the 1.7 of the downgrader as the 2.1 is way more complex and I had to reinstall my game after I tried to do it on the 2.1? Also do you have any plans of making a updated version of this with the 2.1 version?

You can use the 2.1 version very similarly to the way how I used the 1.9 (or 1.7) one in this video :) They should operate on synchronous levels. Are you enabling GFWL or no?

@@NotAJIt was because I was using the offline version that’s why but I’m still trying to get it to work as I’m having problems with it like when I load into the game it works for a few seconds then it crashes

I downgraded to 1.0.4.0 and was able to play for a good while. However I started experiencing issues with crashing so I redownloaded and re-downgraded the game. However now when I imported my old save files (still 1.0.4.0 saves) there seems to be an issue of the game crashing while playing. I think it might be related to saving and trying to write to the folder, as anytime a point where autosave would kick in it seems to crash and it also crashes when I try to save in my safehouses. My folders all seem to be set to "read only", and even if I untick those options, as soon as I open the file properties again it has once again been set to "read-only". Anyone else have a similar issue?

It is likely that the options of the radio downgrader have been altered between the first downgrade to your most recent ones. This sounds like a radio downgrading/non-downgrading issue, since the save files correspond to the news articles and radio stations.

When will we see a remaster? I am excited to bring the game back again.

Of course.

If your game refuses to start after downgrading (black screen for a few seconds), you can fix it by going inside the GTA IV folder in your downgraded installation, cutting all of the content and pasting them in your downgraded installation main folder SKIPPING the duplicates. Then delete the GTA IV folder, and that's it.

That's an absolutely great method! You can either do that, or launch the game for the first time on the RGL/Complete Edition update PRIOR to your downgrade. Then after downgrading, things should be all good. If not that, then move your GTA folder to another location on your PC.

Great Tutorial, just one thing because I can't lunch the game via steam is there a way or a mod that allows me to use a controller? Edit: you can lunch the game via steam as of 11/13/23

Thank you! And the game, by default, should let you with an XBOX controller. PlayStation controllers require DS software to operate on the PC.

hey can you hyelp me, before i downgrade to 1.0.7.0 my vram detect 6GB of my vram which is true, but after i downgrade it, it only shows 2047 and commandline doesn't even work, i try to add the commandline on the shortcut but still doesn't work, can you help me with this?

I have the physical original GTA IV. Do that edition works with the Downgrader or do it have to be the Steam version?

You’re like me! I also have the physical version. If I’m correct, then when installing it, it installs 1.0.0.0., right? Not any other version. If that’s the case, then do not use the downgrader, use the upgrades provided by Rockstar Games (look up any version you prefer).

It’s likely due to a new windows update. Any update?

I’m having an issue where I can boot up the game fine, but when I load into a game it will show where I am for a split second and then crash. I added the exception to Windows defender and that didn’t seem to work.

There’s a possible remedy for this. Try to move your GTA IV folder to a place like “My Documents”, and see if that works :)

Guys, can someone PLEASE help me with this? I'd love to play GTA IV again but: Since MAR 2022 , whenever i try to start the game, it wont start but instead: re-direct me to a downgrading guide... my game is already downgraded and i dont have a vanilla version any more. Hello! Remember that the downgrade might give you two types of launchers - either “LaunchGTAIV.exe” or “PlayGTAIV.exe”. Depending on which one you have (let’s say “PlayGTAIV.exe), then rename it to the other one (“LaunchGTAIV.exe”). This has been a common fix for people.

It's not works for me but it is nice tutorial, I wish there is new tutorial for now bc steam Gta4 is on sale.

After intalling da downgrade can u install other mods already?

After doing this, how do i install script based mods? i wanna install Arrest Warrant but i think there are some files missing including the Script folder

The prerequisites for a lot of mods are typically an ASI loader (such as xlive.dll or dsound.dll), ScriptHook.dll (for .net scripts), and ScriptHookDotNet.asi (for .asi scripts). They should work on Patch 4 and 7 just fine! Make sure the mod goes into a "scripts" folder in your directory.

If we can't start it from Steam, then progress won't appear on Steam? And we won't be able to get Steam achievements, is there a solution for this? Thanks for this detailed guide.

I think something with ZolikaPatch is supposed to fix that up, but I honestly don’t know because I never had GTA 4 on Steam, I got it retail :( Sorry if I’m not much of help! ​@@_KT5 I searched and saw that Zolika has made a mod for their Steam achievements. But I stopped downgrading. I'm playing CE latest version. I found that there are more useful mods in this version.

@@NotAJ i found the solution but game was laggy and aint nobody playing multiplayer so i quit.. I mean restored my files.

This downgrader just gives me an error everytime. I used it on a clean game out of program files and it still doesn't work. Find it easier to just manually downgrade.

I downgraded and played 2 years ago on my pc with xbox control with no issues. Decided to redownload it to playthrough again with mods and followed this tutorial and installation was flawless. However, once I loaded in... my analog stick sensitivity is weirdly fast, when i drifted corners in a car my camera spun 360s insanely fast throughout the slide, and the most annoying issue is when i press up on the left analog stick to run/walk, Niko pulls out the phone as if I were pressing up on the dpad. I tried checking out in game setting for sensativity and phone but no luck. Any ideas?? EDIT: So I fixed my cam from going on a crazy 360 spin during a "drift". Turned off the in game setting on handbreak animation or something along those lines. Still Cannot figure out why my phone is coming up when I try to walk. It happens simultaneously (Walk and pulls phone out causing me to always walk with phone out like its 2023). Also, still cannot figure out why my sensitivity is so fast on my control after setting it to "low" in-game. I do not want to continue to mod until I can get passed these barriers so any help will be much appreciated!

Some of these issues you described actually might be fixable using ZolikaPatch, I believe. Don't count me for it though! Just making an educated guess. When you say insanely fast for sensitivity, you're talking about like mouse-movement speed, right?

@@NotAJ Thanks for the response! Where can I find ZilikaPatch? on the GTA Inside website? I'll google it. Answer to your mouse-movement speed, it is like purposely moving the mouse up or down as fast as you can (make sense?). The sensitivity is only insanely fast when I move the camera up or down. Left to right is fine.

@@NotAJ I FIXED IT !! Lol after some more and more research, I found this forum that was posted like 7yrs ago lol by someone who had a similar issue in GTA V. Basically, I had to disable the the Steam setting "Steam Input for controllers (XBox)" Somehow Steam was double mapping my control only when I ran GTA IV, which is weird considering Steam doesn't run with the downgrader. Whatever, I am just happy I solved my problem lol Thanks for your timely response thought man! Great How-To video 👍

Dude mabe you just have to turn off the handbrake camera on the display menu

Where I can find my saves afterdowngrafing with this program? Also is there solution for GTA 4 crashing. I remember playing for 40mins of LCPDFR or recording 20min vids now i dunno why i cant even play 6 mins of LCPDFR. Depends on which saves you're talking about. If you're talking about the saves from the newest edition of GTA 4, then it's in "C:\Users\username\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\Profiles". There should be a folder, go into there, and take the "SGTA4__" that corresponds to the save you want. Then downgrade that save. If you're using Patch 1070, with xliveless installed, then put the downgraded save in the "C:\Users\username\Documents\Rockstar Games\GTA IV\savegames" folder.

I've read all the comments tried everything to make it work but it just doesn't, when I launch the game it is a few second black and then it crashes. I've read so many forums and reinstalled gta 4 like 4 times. If somebody can help me that would be great.

Try making sure that you do two things - make sure GTA 4 is moved to another location on your computer, like a location such as "My Documents", etc. And also make sure you add the folder as an exclusion to your security because it probs doesn't like it lol.

Sup AJ! I do have a problem, it was crashing when I start the game. Yes, I installed the backup version and the same problem happened. It was for 1.0.7.0 and I however cant get pass the first cutscene. Any tricks up your sleeves that can help me out? Thanks!

That’s a Rockstar Social Club error. Try doing everything without the multiplayer option enabled.

Hello! I wanted to day that this video is very helpful and packed with information, but i do have a question, when i try to open/run the playGTAIV file, it says that i need to launch from the LaunchGTAIV file, do you have any suggestions? This is the most detailed video I’ve watched but it’s still not working The game just crashed when ever the new game starts all I head is “daddy’s back” then the game crashes (I fixed it nvm) Nvm i lied I thought I fixed it just to walk out of my appartment for an instant game crash.

I'm not sure how it works, I'm pretty sure it binds your game's progression to the Steam API (maybe). I'm not 100% certain.

Since this came out, the most recent online version available is 1.7, and 2.0 online is currently broken forcing manual install. Save file downgrade seemed to be added in 1.8, not sure if i would have to restart game after 1.7 downgrade. Anyone know? Edit: Great video, and very thorough. I look forward to downgrading and modding the gem.

@@NotAJ nevermind i fixed i had to clean install everything with the gfwl but i updated gfwl to the latest but with the save files i just had to downgrade again with it

I just can't seem to get the game to launch when I downgrade it to 1.0.4. It loads up with a black screen and white loading bar at the bottom then crashes.

The downgrader never asks so I guess it's disabled, it skips the online steps. Should I be using the LaunchInOfflineMode instead?@@NotAJ
