Finally after 15 years, someone finally uploaded a video with all the cut phone calls. There have been some KZreadrs who have uploaded some of the phone calls but a lot of these they haven’t, so thank you for making this video! I hope you do the Episodes from Liberty City cut phone calls next.

It was actually fun to do something like this! It was pretty time consuming, but, because of how much I love GTA IV, I was really invested into hearing a lot of these. Another reason about why Francis’ phone call when Niko spares Clarence was cut because you don’t encounter Clarence until either you spare Derrick or Francis making the call pointless

Yeah the Clean Getaway epilogue phone call is still in the game, had to wait for ingame hours to get it just so it makes more sense for Niko to figure out that Vlad has visited Mallorie the other day

@@NotAJ Also, regarding the unused phone calls for Mallorie calling Niko about Roman cheating on her, you were supposed to have the option to tell the truth or lie, similar to the accept or decline feature in the phone, and so you would get the following dialogues depending on your choice

It’s criminal that rockstar didn’t put all these calls in. It would’ve added so much immersion to the playing experience. Well done on the excellent video!

And variety too. For example, Crime and Punishment, it would've given some clues, or it would be a mashed potato of calls. One is used, one is unused and so on. Like in GTA V, where's more variations to one line. Like in a Fame or Shame mission, where one value would trigger "Go home, Tracey!", and another would trigger "Tracey, go home!"

I actually heard the phone call with vlad about the blista compact in the actual game. He does actually call you if you mess up the car. He literally has the same dialogue.

While I do like the Elizabeta phone call, storyline wise it doesn't really make much sense. Why would she be calling Niko (A hired gun she only met like a few weeks prior) and why does she say "The next 5 years" when she has a 300 year sentence?

These phone calls are so cool because it's a very interesting way of inadvertently giving additional context to things without Rockstar just being blatantly obvious. I agree, a lot of the phone calls around Malorie and Roman's relationship should've been kept in, especially since they kept the whole 'Malorie cheating on Roman' bit in the game. Also since Michelle is a fed, additional phone calls like this would've been a great addition to fill her character out a bit more.

I agree with you wholeheartedly. As a matter of fact, I was even saying in the video that keeping these phone calls would've added so much more context to the storyline. Each phone call added would've spiced things up even more. It made the beginning cutscenes of "Uncle Vlad", "Buoy's Ahoy", "Babysitting", "The Snow Storm", etc. make so much more sense.

Even after 15 years gta 4 is still my favorite gta game to date. Its just too good

Great video! My guess as to why alot of these were cut were simply because they didn't want the player having to answer their phone constantly, kind of balancing act between keeping immersion and world building while also letting players goof around without being bugged by phone calls. Some of these absolutely should've been in the game though.

I do get why a lot of these were cut due to the player needing to receive a lot of calls to advance the story, but the optional ones where Niko is the one calling out should definitely have been kept in. Funnily enough this is present in TLAD especially during Coming Down mission Johnny can call Ashley multiple times, would have been great for Niko to do the same more often.

There's another one in the mission "Bull in a China shop". Originally, you were supposed to take some vodka to the owner as an apology for destroying his shop, so there's phone calls after you deliver the vodka, or kill the owner (fail).

Thank you! Believe it or not, the first 30 minutes of the video’s subtitles were created by me, but then I had to get it from GTA IV’s text file.

i think the decision to make some missions available depending of the time was scrapped after the voice recording sessions for the game were done, that's why Dimitri's text message in The Master and the Molotov was probably a last minute decision also the phone calls where some characters are asking Niko if they have finished the mission and Niko tells them that not yet, I think the point of these calls were made so if the player happens to call the character that gave them the mission while the mission wasn't finished yet these phone calls will happen, just to add a bit more of realism I guess

Hell no, protag wheel wouldn't make sense. Just have all of the storylines as options and a 4th free roam mode where you can play whoever you want or something. The character wheel only worked because the storylines were heavily interconnected, it wouldn't make sense with the 3 liberty lads

Good video but I'm positive that I heard the 4th one, in fact for almost all mission there is an alternative dialogue for the "in car" discussion, sometimes even 3 alternatives, GTA4 is the only GTA that got overdeveloped! It will never happen again, so glad to have lived this era!

I think a lot of these would’ve been used like the “learn to fly” calls from Toreno in SA, urging you to continue the plot if you weren’t doing it. The “met a stranger” call I’m pretty sure would’ve been used after completing your first Stranger mission?

That’s what I was thinking too. Especially since Roman is trying to tell Niko about the people of Liberty City, as if he didn’t know who they’re like.

The Blista Compact call when he says the car was a mess is if you crash the car after washing it. The cars was clean indeed, but if you crash it, Vlad calls you and says that.

@ 22. 16:27 I think Rockstar was worried more about the quality of immersion because Dimitri waiting from 5 PM to 3 AM at a specific boardwalk is a little bit ridiculous. However, the V3 version of the phone call would've been a great choice. Maybe the text message conveys Dimitri's ability to not accept the decision he has made more than if he was to verbally confirm it with a phone call.

On the cut Dimitri call, my guess as to why he didn't call Niko after the deal was that he was assuming that he and Phil were dead. When Pegorino started talking about it going well, he likely decided to have the assassin go to the wedding to make sure the job was done right, at least in his eyes, since he must have realized that he messed up by calling Niko before he went inside.

Just firing it here on the Elizabeta call, my guess is that she says 5 years because that's what she's assuming she'll get. Of course it turns out very differently, but my guess is that she's somewhat optimistic at that point and trusts Niko since he's one of the few people not to turn states and he handled her problems after being recommended by Mallorie (a close friend).

How do you actually get these calls?! I've got a couple during playthroughs, example the one with Vlad telling Niko he'll use the Bilista for a date. Great video as well, this game continues to amaze me and that's why it will always be one of my favourites ever made!

You’re going to find this absolutely surprising… but how I found these were through the game’s “scripted speech” audio files using OpenIV. And essentially, each ‘scripted speech’ audio file was written for each character, each mission, and each time a scenario/random event took place. This was written solely for the script of the game’s storyline and the side quests. So I went through EVERY scripted speech audio file, listened to thousands upon thousands of audio bits just to find these. It intrigued me especially since I just randomly heard one and was like… “hmm, are there more?” lol. In total, it took me 3 days to find all of them, taking breaks in between lol. But thank you so much ❤️ I appreciate the kind words and respect! Long live GTA IV!

I couldn't help agreeing with you with alot of the calls that should have been included in the game, I feel like it would have given the characters a little more 'substance', like the one where Faustin calls up Niko on some off chance he might have some cocaine, this alone gives you more insight to Faustins drug abuse and how it kind of affects the story with Dimitri partly blaming that on to why he went 'too far' and brainwashes Niko against him for his own gain of course. Anyway, thanks for taking the time to go through every single call, videos like these really highlight the masterpiece GTA IV really is!

I agree, his voice actor made the character feel awesome to be around and interact with. Great addition of Faustin in the storyline :)

That's absolutely correct.

I know another 2 phone calls from Dwayne. There is also an alternative phone call of Dwayne after you helped Cherise from her abusive boyfriend. This other one I don't know if it is actually in the final game, but Dwayne also calls Niko that he saw a ghost or a figure of Cherise if you killed her.

I believe those two are in fact in the game. The first one you mentioned was directly sometime after the mission (if you’re friends with him). And the second one is sometime after in the game if you’re friends with him.

So,does Email System were implemented at the pre release or near final?

53:40 Pegorino’s line here (about Roman being safe sleeping alone) is actually re-used in the mission Pegorino’s Pride if you fail. Interestingly it’s used as a subtle threat to Niko for f**king up.

I thought I've heard that from somewhere before and that's exactly where I heard it from. Insane how they transferred that line of dialogue from the unused phone call to the mission failure. Do you think that's why the phone call, that includes that very segment, wasn't included in the game?

@@NotAJ It’s possible but as you say, the call is counter intuitive to Ray’s text message. My guess is that originally you would get the Alderney apartment after you start working for Jimmy, but you actually get it after completing “Smackdown” for Derrick. That mission can and usually is completed before meeting Pegorino.

About Mallorie, Michelle and Roman, actually I like removing that phone calls because Michelle was suspicious to me when he started to talk about dating with Niko and when I think someone is snitch I don't like to play more mission to understand him/her. this happened in GTA V I couldn't trust Michael so I didn't take the story seriously, just doing missions was fine for me and what characters want to learn from story was enough so I didn't bother myself to find my opinions in the game, In GTA IV you can argue you could have more playing time but let's be honest when I played the game for the first time I could undesrtand reason behind taking the car to the carwash but we play as Niko and you want to find your way in Liberty City, so there is no reason for me to care about that things at that point but when you finish the game and you know how your decisions had ended up to that mess you take care.

@@NotAJ Me too, because there seems to be no reason to not include most of them. Maybe the testers thought it's too annoying to pick up calls all the time so R* removed the "non essential" ones.

I think I understand why the phone calls from #12 Crime and Punishment were removed. We just got to meet Dimitri for the first time and he is depicted as the good cop to Faustin's bad cop. He is the one who promises he'll look after Roman after Faustin shoots him and will get him to a doctor. I think the devs wanted us to have a positive first impression of him which is further emphasized over the course of the next few missions where Faustin is depicted as a maniac while Dimitri is trying to reign him in. All that would have been undercut if Dimitri kept calling to threaten Roman's life.

@@NotAJ Dimitri is using the carrot and stick method to force Niko to do this task and plenty other tasks. He tells Niko that there is a possibility of an award if he complete the work and puts pressure on him if he fails the task.

I still have all these calls I must have a very old version lol
