I had another plant I desperately wanted (in public) and couldn't get it to set roots. I will try this. It's generally quite a fussy kind of plant according to a nursery I bought a few from. The public one has different flowers. Miniature and a different colour and lots more of them.

I got a fairly decent fig, likely planted in the 20s or 30s as a few of the original garden things have survived after being neglected since BEFORE WW2 in this 170 year old cottage. 12 years ago, it was a dead looking stump just like my huge rose bush, cut it back and it went crazy. Often 40-60 figs per flush, 2 maybe 3 flushes each year. Going to try air layering it as it's crazy healthy. No idea of the fig type but they're quite good and stay green to go purple as they ripen. Birds love them.

A tree like that is worth preserving! And good luck with this method trying to get a cutting of that other plant!

Well, this is new to me as far as Air Layering goes. AL is my favorite propagation method. Dude, you are fast . Have you had success getting root development from buds / nodes without girtling and bark removal ? If you do, that will speed up the AL process tremendously. I do 100+ AL's each summer, so I will give your method a try. Thank You !

This and a few others are my first time doing air layers.. right now it's all experimenting but I hope you and others can take this idea and figure out how to perfect the method.

How does the branch get nourishment For Leaves and roots just from water? When it's attached, the mother provides. I tried it with an air layer that was already on the tree for a week. My friend tried it exactly how you are doing it with 6 branches and they all went into shock and died.

Have you ever cut a branch and placed it into a glass of water to try to root in water? I'm assuming it will work the same exact way and just root into the soil instead. This is totally an experiment. Sorry your friend had some cuttings go into "shock". Maybe you mean loose it's leaves? Fig Trees are finicky like that but it doesn't mean it is a failure yet. It hasn't even been 3 weeks since I did the video so I'm still keeping my fingers crossed. If this works it will revolutionize the cutting trade. I may not have it all figured out but someone will perfect this method and make it work.

Vous pouvez utilizer de l’eau de Saule ce qui est beaucoup plus disponible.. Coupezdes branches de saule, (n’importe quel) et laissez saucer dans de l’eau pour plusieurs jours. Utilisez cette eau comme hormone de croissance

Lol 😂 ok I like your creativity in combining rooting methods. I would expect your air-layer (figpop) component to root first and develop more. From my experience water rooting takes too long. Good work bro

  • @MilesFig

That's what I'm hoping for. I want the roots to form in the soil area, not the water. If so roots form in the water, that's fine but we want the soil roots. The water is there just to keep it alive while it roots in the soil. Try it and let's see your results
