How to do RC Bodywork + LEDs Tamiya Subaru 2008 WRC TT02 Body Set 1364

Автокөліктер мен көлік құралдары

In this video I detail the process of painting an RC Lexan (polycarbonate) body, masking off the windows, applying the decals / stickers and fitting LED light buckets and LEDs. The body used is the Tamiya Subaru 2008 WRC body set, Part Number 1364. This body is then fitted to my latest RC rally car chassis project, a modified Tamiya TT-02.
The LED set was sent from Peter Smith ‪@cw-01creations46‬ , many thanks! The LED set is from 3Racing and is called "RC Car Flashing Light". The LED kit comes with a control box and 12 individually wired LEDs as follows:
3mm orange LEDs x 4
3mm white LEDs x 2
5mm white LEDs x 4
5mm red LEDs x2
The control box is connected to channel 1 and 2 of the receiver via the provided 3-wire "Y" connectors. You can see a demonstration of the functions of the LEDs at the end of the video.
Thanks for watching!

Great video, Mark. That Subaru body is soooo nice! -- It's crazy how transparent those blue metallic's are, eh? That white backing was the right call, really helped make the blue pop. And pre-cut stickers? Lucky guy!!!

Right on! Thanks my man, yeah gotta love a Scoobie! This one has really grown on me but I'm still a fan of the older sedans... Oh, this paint is so much more transparent than the Tamiya blues, luckily I've used it before so I was prepared for the backing! I think it's worth the extra effort as yeah, it really does pop! I see ya gotta cut your Von Squash stickers, never mind! Take care brother! 👊😎👍

It looks great Mark and great run though of all the steps for painting. I failed at my series on it, I am no instructor! LOL! You summed up a ton of stuff in 16 minutes and mine is still laying on the cutting room floor! LOL! The car looks fantastic! I have had those tinted window sticker tear on me before as well, they seem exceptionally delicate! I do know the gun metal fingers prints all too well! LOL! I have adopted you paint can lip technique on most of my paint jobs! I do revert to the old ways occasionally but for ones I know there is a high risk it is always used!

Hi Mark, a great video to watch. Love the Subaru bodywork, so sorry that side window sticker split on you. But you managed to conceal that well. That blue turned out well, especially backing in white, then black and those rally stickers make it worth while. I like the light kit, really makes the Subaru come to life. It just so happens, I’ve another TT-02 Subaru, the 99 Monte Carlo version….i too fancied another rally car body challenge 😂😊😂. An absolute joy to watch the master of his craft in action matey!! That looks absolutely tremendous fella, stunning job!👌 The issue I would have with this would be forcing myself to actually drive it.... I would be scared of scuffing something that looks that good, and it would only end up as a display model, which would then drive me nuts as I'd want to drive it! Some fantastic tips there even for the most experienced of modellers. The paint tin sanding around the arches was something I definitely picked up from this, cheers! Always good to have a long pointed stick with those decals, something I do use myself...... but those front decals looked especially tricky, and would have definitely caused me stress. Great save on the window decals..... I'm guessing you would remember back in the day when we used to have to paint the window trim on by hand? Some things are best left in the past eh mate?! Not tried that brand of paint myself, I don't like the cost of the Tamiya paints, but there's no doubting how good they work, so I'll stick with them for now. The backing layer definitely works a treat, especially on that translucent tone of blue,i would go as far as saying essential. And boy how good is that led set up then? That is delightful..... I usually buy the cheap Chinese £5 Ebay specials, but after seeing how effective that looked I'm certainly going to look into some of those mate. Now, how about a night rally stage running video then dude?.... I'm pretty sure knowing you that this one won't just be sitting on the shelf! 😉 But, as you say, the weather is definitely not on our side currently..... I sooo want to get out and run some cars, but all it does is bloody rain! ☔ Highly enjoyable video for a Saturday night with a nice strong cider Sir, cheers Mark! 🍻 👍 👍 👍

Thanks for the interesting comments as always! 👍 Oh yeah, I panic on every first run after all that work but soon get over it... you should see my Lancia 037!!! 😭 But I get a kick out of doing these bodies and I get some KZread content to boot! You know I don't do shelf queen's mate! As for Absima paint I totally recommend it, especially if you just want some black white or silver for backing, it's excellent value. 👌 This blue is the only transparent one I've found from them. As for the LEDs, Peter Smith sent them! Definitely worth a try, James! Oh I might try a dusk rally video if we get some milder weather, otherwise I'm waiting for spring!!! 😅 Hope you're doing well my friend, take care and all the best from Mark! 😎 👊👍

I found a great spot to run the GT today, but ended up crashing before I could record a good pull. 100% my fault but you should have seen the amount of chipped paint that exploded out of this thing on impact 😆 ..buckled the body a bit, but all the horrific damage was inside.

Always so great to see your bodywork videos, they are always 100% 💯 Pre cut stickers are nice Good thing you put the correct name on car 😂 I was dumb once and used elektro tape on my cables but it turned the glue on the tape reacted with the body so on the outside you can see all the marks from the tape 😢 So i am skeptical to most tapes now. I always use the Tamiya masking tape as that will not react

You always come through with a really good body shell. Looks great! I would have probably backed it with silver thinking it would give the transparent colour a depth to it so it was good to see it worked well with white. The real bonus is, more rally video's to come from you. Great work!

Ah yes always a treat to see the master at work. Some excellent top tips in there as usual. Do you think that the Absima paint does work out cheaper when you consider that you have to put on about a million coats and even then it's see through? I always back Tamiya paints anyway but they are definitely less see through than that after 3 or 4 coats. Anyway with the backing paint yours came up lovely. I think it makes such a difference to have the light buckets on these but they only seem to come with the body sets now rather than the kits. My Subaru shell has got them and they look fab. It hasn't got the fancy light kit with all the different modes though. That's rather nice. Anyway top work all round mate. A nice way to start Friday evening with a pint. Hope all is well. Cheers for now 😁

Thanks mate! Not sure about master though! I have been called something like that before though! 😅 I do like the Absima paints, some cool colours and most are not transparent like this blue, but I wish they'd state that on the tin! Tamiya paint is probably better in terms of coverage so just as good value I reckon. I used this blue on my Neo Scorcher so at least I knew what to expect and I really love the colour. Yeah, the light buckets look so much better than stickers, even if you don't install LEDs. This LED kit was from Mr. Smith, jolly nice of him! Thanks for the great comment, mate! You didn’t but show any instructions on wiring the LEDs to the control unit. Or to the receiver.

Sorry! It was a LED kit, there are several available and they are all wired differently, but they do come with clear instructions. Cheers!

Anyhow amazing job and the lights are good but the scooby focus rally shell is a firm no. Tt02 hmmmmmmmm tt01 is better.

I know this is the least popular Subaru body, dude, but I like it! That's the thing about this hobby, something for everyone! I also have the 1999 Burns version, I agree it is stunning!
