So you’re supposed to touch the deck with your knee? I was always told to hover.

It's more of a light tap on the floor and not a hold at the bottom. In my opinion, that's ok. In this video, the main point is to demonstrate that the knee should sink below the platform.
Piffle. Functional range (where length tension is optimal) of movement is far better more for purely muscular gains. If you are working on increasing ROM or improving/maintaining flexibility then full rage is appropriate. You might want to consult some exercise physiology studies before repeat same old BS. As a practitioner I end having to rehab people who have followed conflicting advice such as this.
