Great job...best video so far...😊
Thanks for the video I really appreciate it I watched it about 10 times and I had no troubles from start to finish looking forward for other videos from you thanks again .
I had my 2013 Can am Spyder rt sm5 for approximately 2yrs and purchased it for approximately $12000 with 12,000miles and brought it in for a 14,000 service they wanted $2100+ tax not included. They said the service for a valve trane is expensive, that’s just what they offered, I just declined and ask for an oil change and they wanted $305 w/o tax $145 labor and rest for parts. I declined again, I’ll do it myself and learn from your videos. New subscriber & Thanks 😊

Thank you for a very nice vid. Keeping it up bud.
Really top notch video 👍. Thank you so much for your clarity & step-by-step method!! I feel like I can do this now no problem 😊 👌. This is the 2nd time your videos have been a saver for me. I found & watched your BajaRon sway bar install (many times!) as well ; when I was pulling my hair out trying to get those dang washers in the links 😳. Brilliant 👏.

What type of oil is used I just bought a 2012 Spyder rs
Also new sub.
What is that high pitched noise, and how long does it last,? my 2014 SM5 makes that noise, it seems to last a long time
@AskDIYDad

The high pitched noise when you turn it off? I was told that’s completely normal and has something to do with the fuel/ignition system. Mine used to do that for 30 minutes to an hour after the key was turned off.
Do you know where the air filter is because I can't find it?

Under the center panel, which is in front of the seat
Do you know if the manual spyders roll back like a car?
@AskDIYDad
3 жыл бұрын
The SM5 Spyders are true manual transmissions with clutches, etc.. so they will roll back like any other vehicle. The Automatics hold their position pretty well as long as you don't override them to full neutral mode

@@AskDIYDad Thank you very much.
I do believe it was BPEEE LOL
Do you check the oil in gear or should it be in neutral?
@AskDIYDad
Жыл бұрын
In neutral but you have to do it warm and level. I believe the recommended process is to drive it 5-10 miles, then park it and let it idle on a level surface for 1 minute. Then shut off and check.
How often do you check your oil?
@AskDIYDad

I check it every few weeks - or if I'm about to go on a large ride I will run it up to temp and check it before setting out
How much capacity engine oil Spyder can Am RS?
@AskDIYDad
3 жыл бұрын
You need to buy 5qts of oil. Capacity on the manual transmission is about 4 qts - and automatic (assuming you also changed out the filter) is 4.5 qts. Good to have extra on hand too because these motors burn oil
@iluvbiggirlz420

@@AskDIYDad so like once a week I should check the oil?
@AskDIYDad
3 жыл бұрын
@@iluvbiggirlz420 It depends on how much and how hard you ride, really. I rarely need to add to mine more than once a month unless I'm on a cross-country roadtrip. Start with every few weeks and if you notice oil level is barely moving, expand that time to whatever feels appropriate As I mention in the video though, make sure you are checking the oil properly. Meaning with the bike at full temperature after a ride, parked level, and let it idle level for a minute before you shut off and check
Have you done the engine air filter?
@AskDIYDad

Not on that model - only on the F3 which is wildly different.
is it the same as for SE5 ?
@AskDIYDad
2 жыл бұрын
On the SE5 the process is almost the same but you have a second filter (round cap above and forward of the one in my video) for the transmission. I think your oil capacity may be slightly higher too but I’m not sure (you’d have to check manual or the forums)
I heard there where two filters?
@AskDIYDad
2 жыл бұрын
The SE5 version with the Automatic Transmission has two oil filters - one for the transmission and one for the motor. The SM5 manual transmission only has the one
Pretty good. However, you omitted showing a lot of the work, i.e. removing and reinserting the oil filter.
Why do kits show 2 filters
@AskDIYDad
Жыл бұрын
The Automatic (SE5) has two filters, the manual (SM5) has only one

Officially - XPS 4-stroke motor oil from Can Am (www.amazon.com/2010-2013-Can-Am-Spyder-Roadster-Maintenance/dp/B01AAWVAW4/) but you can use any 4-stroke motor oil. There are kits out there from Baja Ron that will save you some money Check out my other videos.. I -think- the RS of that year has the ability to enable cruise control pretty simply - the start of my video on adding cruise tp my Spyder ST shows how to check if you have the covered button - if you do all you have to do is replace the right-hand controls which can be done in your driveway in under an hour.

@@BigDee-wf3qc Excellent! Best of luck and enjoy your Spyder! Best advice I received is that it takes about a thousand miles to really master what the Spyder is and is capable of. I love mine.. it's a heck of a lot of fun and I enjoy the people who have loud opinions about it even though they've never ridden one.. heh.
