    Hi, great channel. You are one of the best boat guys on KZread. I have a dark colored flat paint boat that needs a very similar repair. How do you match the paint color if it is an odd color? Mine is between a barn red and black cherry. Thanks!

    Ignotus Peverell thats a great idea. I will squeeze that process in when I get the chance. It’s gonna be hard tho as that is the one thing I try to avoid. Lol. Every time I go to spray I’m always like as long as I don’t get any runs I’ll be good to go. When I first started, yeah I got runs. Honestly can’t tell you when the last time was I did. But I will and I will cover how to fix it 👌

    Frankie Bushong I am sure that at the moment you don’t got any runs .. you are very careful.. always your first coat is “nothing” and that’s the 50% of everything.. most of the painters are too hurry to see the color coverage and then spend their next days buffing the runs 😂😂

    You are so generous to share your knowledge and experience. Thank you. A couple of suggestions for future videos if I may. I noticed on the blue Alden that the running gear was painted. I'd love to know how you prep and paint those things. I'm about to do it on my Sabre 42. I assume you use Trilux 33? but what about sand/clean/primer? Also, I'd would like to see you layout a boot strip sometime. It all makes sense until you get to the bow section then my head explodes thinking about how to get past the chine. Anyway, I've become addicted to you channel. Thanks

    Hey thanks tony. Trilux 33 is popular here at the boatyard. As far as the prep goes there’s a variety of ways to do it. Yes you want to make sure all running gear is sanded and cleaned and depending on what products you use for the finish will determine which primer to use. I will definitely keep your suggestions in mind and add these steps in future videos to come. Thanks again tony. And your welcome 👌👌

    I didn't see any induction sitting in the tech sheet. 15 minutes induction time. Now for epoxy primer yes. But do you have to induct Allcraft 2000?

    Great work Frankie! Thanks for all of your videos. I am getting ready to paint my 23'classic Mako and wanted to ask...what size compressor is the minimum you think I need to get the job done? I will be priming and painting the inside and topside. Also, does it make a big difference whether I build a booth to do it in? Or just shoot outside? Thanks!

  • @boatpaintingrestorationwit3029

    @boatpaintingrestorationwit3029

    4 жыл бұрын

    Matthew Llorente thanks bud. Having a booth has its ups and downs. I’ve gotten some of my best paint jobs outside. You can see a lot better and if you time it right ( a day after it rains, and a slight breeze) you will have next to no trash in the finish. As far as the compressor goes you want one with high cfm’s. Like around 23.5 cfm and around 175 psi. You can get away with using much smaller but you would want to have a back up tank holding extra air. Basically you can connect two smaller compressors together and get the job done. Hope this helps👌

    The 3M polyvinyl ester (marine premium filler) says NOT to apply over epoxy. I think I've seen you use it over Awlfair (epoxy). Could you clarify? Thanx, Bob

  • @boatpaintingrestorationwit3029

    @boatpaintingrestorationwit3029

    3 жыл бұрын

    Hey bob. When it states do not use over epoxy, they are referring to resins. Awlfair is a epoxy filler. I never use the 3m filler over bare glass but you could if you wanted to. Basically they say if you use the 3m premium filler over epoxy resins you will end up with unsatisfactory results. I never have that issue. I guess it just all depends on who’s working with the stuff. Lol. Most finish primers in the marine industry are also epoxy primers and that’s when I usually use the premium filler. I’ll use it over awlfair before priming to fill in the Little pinholes etc when doing repairs. Hope this kinda helps clarify things bud👌

    I only use them after the finish priming during my final sand. It’s a must for me. I have also used them when sanding certain gelcoat finishes before priming if the surface has a lot of low spots. Just all depends.

    I’m in Richmond Kentucky and I was wondering where are you located at and then I have a 19 foot Rogers semi tunnel V hull jet boat it’s been my toy long time had her sense 1993 little hot rod toy whatever room we got into some trouble accident and now fire damage on the front nose rub it in I don’t know I’m gonna pull the motor out& the jet pump !! Also good time lable wiring and Rewire the boat and nicely tag labels each of the wire s I like to make it where you could actually unplug it and remove it all out if you ever wanted to do a repair or take it apart and put it back together in order to even chase it down all the wiring, silver soldering and shrink tubing the nice upside downand have it done in OK to rework it last but not least want to do the steel braided lands in aircraft buildings on everything in and that nice to the way I want to paint it’s probably gonna be very expensive I want to checkerboard type stripe across the back 2 so feet !! Wide from back one implement some Chevrolet racing flags and places or maybe one large one on bow I don’t know I’ve seen some bad ass, helmets and things with the cards like a skin, queen jack, Dyson, triple seven and stuff like that painted on to it too in places it looks good and I don’t know the whole color of the building. I’ll go with the work in progress I guess when I write to take it apart and take it somewhere and have that done but I really don’t know what to do with that right now?

I live in Miami and I am a school bus driver and with this crisis they sent us home but they still pay us so I have time to learn interesting things like this since in the future I am going to get into a boat project. I would like to know if you need a free helper. just by teaching me how to work with boats I can help you in everything. As I said before, I don't need money, I just want to learn and so you can work on more projects.

    Funny thing, I was just wondering the same question to ask Frankie. Why not start a “hands-on” painting class? He is teaching the world to paint. Why not make a lot more money doing it by having a live class? Charge $500-$1,000 for a week-long class, with 5 to 10 people, and make an extra $2,500 to $5,000 per week. Frankie, just let me know when, and how much. Thanks for the great videos! 👍

    Mike. Sorry bud. Been a hectic couple of weeks. I am going to do a accuspray video this week. But until then, when priming I use either the 1.8 or 2.0 spray cap. I shoot with a continuous 20-25 psi when trigger is squeezed. When spraying topcoat I use the 1.2 or 1.4 spray cap and psi is the same. I just adjust the paint flow, air flow, and fan as needed. It just depends on environment and size of the job. I will do a accuspray setup video ASAP!!
