I would love to see how the waterline and the top of the anti-foul match up (in water). I’m a freshwater boater so this is something I never have to deal with.

Surprising the amount of smurfs that come into the chandlery where I work, obviously not wearing any protective clothing/gear, dont think they realise how nasty some of that paint is.

Used to use do a lot of industrial painting and the fumes are gnarly, pretty much wearing the mask all day, did a lot of aluminum boats with glass blasting because the sand would gouge and embed into the aluminum, then a thin coat of epoxy, full dry then another coat, let dry until just sticky, then apply the anti fouling at maximum pressure with a airless sprayer, or any other. The process took a few days in a heated shop and very good ventilation, cough cough.

Excellent advice as always with your ‘teach-ins’ 👍 Like your humour making sure you don’t get blue anti fouling on your hair so you don’t look like a Smurf 😁

Would it be better to reposition the boat supports when the paint was dry ?

I need to do this, thanks John. Anyone used copper coat? And wonder how much as they don't have the prices to view. I bet you could buy micro copper and add it to the paint.

Can you antifoul the cabin and deck

John, wouldn't you personally be much safer by wearing a reusable respiratory mask. They are only a few more pounds at a DIY than that disposable mask. What you wore seems less than fit for purpose when respiratory health is concerned.

Agreed. Its like heading to the Ukraine wearing "a bullet-proof vest" that is just a cotton vest with the worlds "Bullet Proof" printed on the front.

    Is that ablative paint?

  • @hugoandreae3785

It is. Most biocide based antifouling paints are ablative/eroding except for Coppercoat it’s just that so called ‘hard’ paints erode at a slower rate than ‘soft/self-polishing’ ones.

Use a divers trick on the fogging up with the goggles, rub some toothpaste on the inside, and wipe a shine

you're working below the water line..no strakes and rub rails there!! Those are chines..it's a stepped hull they're there to create lift whilst under way!! Strakes, rub rails, or bump strips sit high on the free board to help absorb impact and minimalize damage when boats make contact with one another!!
