    No I watched a video done by a lady and then just bought what I thought was good. There is a lot of room inside the frame so I just drilled and it worked. I did put a few extra screws in in places due to the weights of the boards. My fiancée says it’s warmer than it was and obviously the side windows will let warmth out but if I close the blinds it’ll stop a nice garden view. Thanks for watching and nice comment. Hope my video helps or helped. Yeah the rabbits are a pain, eat everything but are funny too.

    Hello. Look if anyone else does this, and its OK to do it, take these extra precautions. Firstly the foil is super reflective, so the sunlight that once came through the poly-carbonate/glass harmlessly into the room is now magnified and reflected at close quarter to the plastic, glass seals etc. At the very least this can cause the seals to cook and crumble, letting leaks in, at the worst, and this DOES happen, its a fire risk. So blacken the original ply/glass either with paint or a suitable membrane that is fire proof, a roofing membrane (or sarking) will do. Secondly, you have extra weight on the roof, it will now want to spread. So please retro fit a tie bar or two if yours doesn't have one. If it doesn't have one its because it didn't need it with the spread and load when it was built BUT it will need one or two now. Dont forget, now its insulated snow will not melt and run off, it will stay and is real heavy. Not trying to disrespect this job, workmanship or scare anyone but just trying to inform and hope to help. Kind regards Pat

  • @HMomber

    @HMomber

    Жыл бұрын

    Hi, with regards to your comment of applying a membrane to stop seal degradation, do you suggest applying it directly to the poly/glass internally or externally? Or can it be laid on the outward face of the insulation between the baton sandwich? Hopefully that makes sense, thanks in advance.

  • @Pat0rchard

    @Pat0rchard

    Жыл бұрын

    @@HMomber Hi Harry. The seals will, in time, degrade regardless. They are however designed for the job, water, uv etc and, like your car rubber seals around doors, will become older looking, cracked etc BUT they will still last for many years, in fact the life of the conservatory. The problem I highlight is the magnification of the sun that having silver backed foil insulation exposed to the sun. As long as you stop that reflection then you are helping the situation. You could actually paint the surface with a matt black paint or similar. I always had spare roofing membrane left over so used that but as long as something is under the glass internally and on top of the shiny surface of the insulation you have cured the issue I to hope this makes sense...

    @@spoiltpooch Hello. I personally would not try this. Roofing felt is not a great product to cut, trim or fasten neatly. I stopped using it a long time ago and my preference on flat roofs is one piece rubber. I think it will look messy at best. Just need something to block the UV while keeping it attractive from outside. You can get false roof slate effect covering for sheds I saw someplace. Hope this helps.

    Trying this project myself, as we had a glass conservatory, I've lined the inner glass with thermafrost (As I understand, it prevents UV damage of the insulation layer, means you don't see the insultation from the outside and helps a bit with condensation prevention. I'm in the process of ordering the battens, but am unsure which ones to get. What type of wood did you use? Im seeing kiln dried, treated roof timber and CLS... I'm also figuring out batten size. I'm trying to balance out the size of battens that will be big enough to support a layer to plasterboard but also as light as possible. I'm currently thinking of going with Kiln dried 19x38... Any advice?

  • @FamousJames

    @FamousJames

    Жыл бұрын

    I ordered battens that were same width as the conservatory roof trusses ie frame. for me it was more about what screws to buy to anchor the wood. I don't see the point in kiln ones really as you're inside so it doesn't need weather protecting, but its uptown you really on that one. I would go for thin boards as well as you don't need heavy boards in there or even fireboards. I can't remember if I mentioned the sizes of the wood etc in the video as I did it 1.5 years ago. I don't live there anymore. I think I got 2x1" battens but not sure. I've done more DIY videos also like loft hatch, boarding my loft etc also if you're thinking about that project also.
