How To Divide Tulip Bulbs | Wicked Tulips

Hello everyone! This video series was created with our customers in mind who have purchased our unprocessed field grown tulips which we sold in 2020. Normally we sell only bulbs which have been dried/separated and processed. During Covid we decided to sell these unprocessed bulbs, straight from our field, to give our customers the experience of what a bulb grower has to do, to get that nice shiny bulb to you in the fall.
In this video we will be discussing how to divide tulip bulbs and determine which size bulb will bloom next year.
When you dig up your tulip bulbs and have given them time to dry ( just a few days) your next step is cleaning and separating them.
1. You will notice several different sized bulbs per clump. Separate them and put them in piles according to size.
2. Remove the old roots and any old debris
3. Check for soft spots and or a rotten smell- discard these immediately
4. Bulbs that are about the size of a silver dollar will produce a flower the following spring. Bulbs the size of a quarter have a good chance of blooming and anything smaller than that won't.
5. You can discard the small ones or plant them in the fall in a separate garden. They will only produce a leaf or two. You would then let them die back naturally in the spring and harvest them again starting the process over.If you have any questions comment them below! I don't understand why people always throw away the mini bulbs. It's like they want instant results, but gardening is always done year by year anyway.

If the plant is happy, the bulbs will grow bigger every year.

Hi, very nice videos. I love flowering bulbous plants. But do the newly planted tulips need to be removed from the ground afterwards, or should they be removed and divided the following year?

Hello! Very nice and informative videos! I am interested in also propagating my favourite plants and not toss them. Is there a chance for me to make tulip bulbs produce bulblets so that I can also grow them? I live in Greece (zone 9). Thank you in advance!

Can you dig them up with the roots and live green stems and save the root instead of twisting off the root and seperate in a sink tub full of water ? Can I skip on twisting the root off ???
