How to Distinguish Between Female and Male Elephants

Үй жануарлары мен аңдар

Senior Carer Owen Dube shares insight into how to tell female and male elephants apart, with Zindoga as the male example and Kumbura as the female. Little Timisa also moves into screen. Carer Last demonstrates male characteristics with Mambo the bull.
Learn more about how to identify an elephant's gender with these tips: males have rounder foreheads compared to females who have more angular foreheads. Males' tusks have a wider space between them where they come out, compared to females who point forward more. Male tusks are also bigger at the base where they come out, supporting their larger trunks, compared to females, who are smaller.

It continuously amazes me how you know all elephants by name. It seems to me that you see individual faces, characters and mannerisms of the elephants, whereas many of us ignorent people have to search for different physical characteristics. In any case I am very grateful for the work you do and especially for the fact that you take time and effort not only to educate us but also allow us to enjoy watching the elephants during their dayly exploits.
