Ha- Every swear word? . I just spent two hours and still only have my rim halfway into the new tire. But I did make up many, new and exciting colorful sentence enhancers. Of course, it is possible that my insane babbling was me speaking in tongues after a curse was put on me by the Do-It-Yourselfer-Weekend-Warrior-Demons from hell who exist on the exuberant swearing and frustration of do-it-yourselfers..

Bought 4 new tires the other day, and was going to see about getting the tires broken down and get the new ones mounted. The local small engine place wanted.....wait for it......$17.50 per tire!!! I'm going on 71 and didn't think I had enough strength to do it again, but after watching your video, I'm going to get a friend over, and together, I think I will be able to handle it. Was thinking about buying a Harbor Freight mini changer, but for $60, I'll give the manual way a shot. Thanks for the refresher course.

I have never seen a tire come off the rim so easy. I use a long 2x4 lever hooked under the bumper of my truck with the tire on the ground and the right length block between the lever and the tire. It can be awkward, two people can do it more easily. I use soapy water to soak in and get the bead broken but then use any brand of shortening, (Crisco) to lube the tire bead and the rim to remove the tire from the rim and reinstall. Soapy water seems to cause rust on the rim. Once the bead is broke, the tire comes off by hand with the Crisco.

Nice video. I've fought these things quite a few times on small equipment and wheelbarrows. I pretty much do it like you showed . I have a couple tiny C -clamps that hold the partial bead in place when I am alone so I can work the other side. I don't like the fire method, so run a hold-down strap around the perimeter of the tire, winch tight and add 15-20 lbs of pressure, too much and it's hard to get the strap off.

If you're tossing the tire try this: cut the tire all the way around through the sidewall on both sides with a sharp knife - this basically removes the tread. Then unseat the bead (can still be difficult) and cut perpendiular to the two circles of rubber that remain using a knife and a dremel tool where the tire meets the rim (there's usually metal wire in here). I tried every technique on youtube and this method could have saved me hours of blood, sweat and tears.

Holy cow that video makes it look way too easy. Usually the beads are stuck so badly even driving a car on a board has a hard time popping them loose. That obviously isnt a 4 ply tire like my little Kubota takes. I've changed tires on that a few times and it takes hours, lots of ingenuity, and usually four hands to do it and is a huge workout.

You can also use a ratchet strap around the center of the tire to push the sidewalls out to seat to the rim if you cant or dont want to do the brake clean trick

Casslakekillaz you can fill a 5 gallon bucket with water the plug the axle shaft, place the tire and rim over the bucket. Valve stem up, push down on the tire to seal against the bucket, the tire will be against the top side bead area. Put air to it and it blows air into the contained area between the water and the tire and fills the tire till the bead seats.

While the starting fluid works and makes a great video, a ratchet strap wrapped around the tire along the tread will hold the bead tight against the rim and allow the air to inflate the tire.

4 hours and two lawn mower tires are done. The old tires were stuck like glue, had to use a sledge hammer, a chisel, and three clamps to pry them off. Had to replace a valve stem and one of the tires was hard to blow up.

Today I tore up the bead on a brand new tire and bent the rim where the bead sets trying to get the new tire on. I had regular tire lube as I do my own motorcycle tires and 3 tire irons and my wife trying to help. I’d rather change a rear tire on my 70 hp tractor than wrestle one of these 5 inch wheels and tire.

On some tires you can leave the valve core out and use a ratchet strap around the middle of the tire. It helps force the tire out to the bead. Safer than brake clean or eather. That’s a good way to loose fingers or get burned.
