Begin by turning the pallet upside down and knocking the chocks (wooden supporting blocks) out. The technique here is to distribute your blows with the lump mallet between the three blocks and gradually knock the section apart. Once you have done this to all three supporting sections place these pieces underneath the main body of the pallet. Using the claw hammer knock the revealed nails through their holes. Try to get all nails out of the wood otherwise you risk damaging your tools when using the pieces for your next project. Knocking nails out of wood is a skill. A skill albeit that you most likely will never write on your CV but one that nonetheless require you to be patient and accurate. Use the lump mallet to rock the nails into shape if they bend. If a nail becomes to malleable cut it in half using pliers or a hacksaw and try knocking it out again. Once those nails are out use the prybar to take strips of wood. In this case as there are seven strips all the odd number strips are released using the even number strips to pivot the prybar. Turn the remaining section over and again on the blocks knock the last strips of wood out.
Be careful when knocking the chokes of their strips to avoid squashing your fingers. Also take care to avoid kneeling or standing on the nails. The nails are ribbed and not for your pleasure. They also have shards of metal attached to them from however they were arranged in a nail gun. Try not to run your fingers along them otherwise you will receive metal splinters along with wooden ones if you decide not to wear work gloves.

That is the best way to do it and you don't waste any wood whatsoever. Thank you.
Great...When he knocks the square blocks out at the start is he using a piece of metal as the cushion or is it wood?? This has been really helpful, I've been taking hours over these small type pallets and ending up with just a couple of pieces intact.
I watched the video until 02:30 and I thought it's a great idea. I just got out of the house and took one of the thirty pallets I have for dismantling/cutting. Perfect. This is so far the easiest way to clean dismantling a pallet I have learned about. You don't need special tools for this. Thank you.
This is the absolute best way to take apart a pallet. No special tools like a sawzall, chisels, etc. No fiddling with scraps of wood between each slate. Imagine though if you had the Airlocker Nail Remover!
When I was a kid, I used to even reuse the nails - I built all sorts of forts and stuff with parts from pallets. Kids these days are missing out on learning homesteading style skills.
Most therapeutic thing I have watched all day. gots me a pallet project this weekend. looking forward to it now.

Brandon Bradley Palletes...
This is a fantastic help and does work, I've just done one in about 25 minutes and all the wood is intact!!! Brilliant.
It is the video file that I was looking for. I can't believe I can find the answer from another side of the globe. I thank the one upload this video.
When get annoyed of a good thing, they say anything...why good things usually make the uninterested people annoyed, and i like your reply......very much.... laugh and ignore. you teach us something good about pallet dismantling, I made my garden pot box out of pallet, there is no pallet free here....but cost is less.
Fantastic! I knew there had to be a simple way of dismantling them without buying special tools. Thank you!
If busting pallets becomes an Olympic event, this guy should sign up to participate in the games. 5 star video.
Thanks for this vid. I've done it with this method once a very long time ago. Then I got myself a reciprocating saw, which I found easier to take the pallets apart with. Just a couple of months ago though, my reciprocating saw died, crank shaft must be munted. So, I'm back to doing it the good old fashioned manual labor way!
"The nails are ribbed and not for your pleasure." Lol, great instructional vid and great sense of humor. Thanks for that!
A nail bar is a very handy tool for this kind of task...instead of pecking those nails through. And you can pry the boards apart with it as well. If you're worried about marking the boards, use a small board under the nail bar. There are any number of good ways of doing this task, but working on a table or something else that's stable and not on the ground can sure make it easier on your back.
I have dismantled a number of pallets for projects and the easiest and less destructive way I found was cutting through the nails with a hacksaw but your method is better and quicker. I wish I'd found this video sooner. Never mind, I will do my next lot your way. Thanks for posting the video.
I don't know why but this video makes me feel awesome to be a human.
Thank you very much. I'm enthusiastic to start projects with wooden pallets, but did not have any idea of how would be the easiest way to dismantle it. Your video is very useful. :-)
Brilliant work! I've struggled with this for 3 days! Now you've given me the solution! Many thanks.
You’re like lightning with that hammer...you don’t strike the same place twice. 🤪
Most useful of the videos that I’ve seen. Tried this approach and got the things apart without damaging the planks.
Nice, but I have seen a video did it with jig saw for metal. The idea is to go right away for any gap between the two wood and cut the nail, so the wood will come out easily. It will take less time to do so and it will not hurt the wood.
Can't wait to get down to the allotment and dismantle all my pallets now, and use the wood. thanks so much. great for a grannie like me with no special tools !!!
Thanks for that little nail straightening technique!
Wow, this technique really works. Saved me so much time compared to my old method (drilling out the nails) and less splits make much more of the timber is re-usable. Thanks!

I was pulling my hair out trying to dismantle one old pallet and gave up after an HOUR!! Thank you sooooo much for making this video! I am going to go tackle all 6 now! WOOHOO!
Thanks! This is one of the manliest things I've seen in my life. Was very captivating
The fastest and easiest way to do the job ! No need for special or hi-tech designed tools. (Greetings from Greece :) )
I totally needed to see this! I kept breaking the boards when I tried to pry them up. This looks like it works much better!! I'll give it a try this weekend. Thanks.
Amazing job and fast with minimum tools. Bravo!
Detailed view of how to keep the nails out of my feet, staples out of fingers and those lovely blood blisters from slamming the hammer on my thumb. The video is quietly beautiful. I'm using pallets for a number of projects and this was better than a book :)
Thank you so much for this video, I have been trying to figure out how to take them apart without damaging the wood as much as possible.
I've seen a few videos on how to do this, but this video is the best one. Thanks!
Thanks for the help, I tried knocking the nails through with a nail punch, that didn't work so I started sawing the things up. So I'm very glad to see this video...Cheers.
Nice tutorial dude. Great angles. Very usefull.
Excellent video! Thanks!
Simplicity and genius often go hand in hand, brilliant video..
I just spend 6:51 minutes... actually learning a skill, that maybe i will use some day. not bad, one more for the skill set. thanks
you just saved my life, I was trying to do the same but in a different way -> dismantling one pallet took me one day LOL.
Nice one mate, just used your video to finally break up one stubborn git in the garden for shelves in the shed! Cheers pal!
Thanks! Now I know why I should just spend $5 bucks on some cheap hardwood at Home Depot. And this video makes it look easy. He's very efficiently working using just enough whacks and taps.Must suck to step on a nail !
Brilliant! I liked the method and enjoyed the video itself.
Very good, I like your method for straightening the nails with the lump hammer. One other tool will make the job a bit easier and I learned this from a good carpenter when I was working with him. I used to pull out the nails with a claw hammer just like you but he told me to use a medium size crow bar that has the curved head with the nail pulling V in it. I bought a couple of Gorilla bars that have this nail pulling head (after the curve). The crow bar is much easier to pull out the nails with (due to its sweeping curve and leverage) and its easier on your wrist and you don't have to bend over as much or kneel down when removing the nails.
Lots of useful tips in this approach. Need to get me a lump mallet! Great video job, too! TFS
Good, simple, and efficiency
That is clever. Many thanks for the video.
50 поддонов за 3 часа где то! Долго Savvas долго ;)
A man of few words. Thanks for the video!
Thanks - this was very helpful to watch
Great job. Lo hace parecer fácil.. es el mejor tutorial.. Gracias por compartirlo. Saludos desde Concepción, Chile. !!
So awesome especially since I don’t t have all the other electric tools.
I am really impressed by this. I knew there had to be a better way than I was doing it.
Thanks for the vid. I was wondering how it was done. I got some pallets I want to make into some raised garden boxes and was trying to figure out how to dismantle it. Good vid!
Genius. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. Going to try this technique as soon as my hands have recovered from the old pry bar method. :)
Congratulations! I like your idea. Surely I will put into practice
Thanks!! 2 ideas: 1 of yours - using a thin piece of wood to place alongside the pallet so as not to damage the pallet wood. Awesome! I will use this technique now! 1 of mine - from watching this I thought as to how you could speed up the process by not mis-hitting the nails. Use a tool/device/some scrap wood for instance that can SURROUND the nail you're about to hit. Imagine, say, a musical tuning fork, but thicker and reaching close to the height of the nail. Support the nail with this
La primera persona que sabe desmontar un palet sin romperlo, excelente.
very helpful thanks. loved how you straightened the bent nails. I'm gonna try and build a storage unit for some kids toys.

That's a nice idea. Good luck with the project. Just a word of advice, always wear a dust mask when cutting pallet wood as some are treated with harmful preservative chemicals, and any furniture made should be sealed with a good quality varnish.
Nicely done. Thanks.
What a great video! Thank you so much!! Really enjoyed it!!
Nice Job! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks :) Your video helped us a lot !
Thanks for technique you is amazing
Very useful. Thanks.
good job man, well presented
Muy bueno lo voy a poner en practica.
Nice job!
i clean up my pallets with my pressure washer 1st and they become very easy to take apart but i have never had a pallet that was so clean and new looking to take apart
This is a well made video. Good man. I will need to dismantle some pallets to make a few Kenya Top Bar Hives. I will have great benefit from this video. Thanks
I've been dismantling pallets intensely the last few days, and I tried exactly the same way as you are doing here, but it just doesn't work with EUR pallets. The pallet you were dismantling looked brand new, and quite thin/flimsy. I wish our pallets were like that :) Add to the difficulty, when the pallets are wet, have been lying in the snow or water, expanding and grab on to the nails harder, and are heavy as fook :) Good job there, miscpro, the result you produced was phenomenal! :)
Thank you for this. Will try it out. Just one question...when you start filming, the very first part has already been removed. How did you get that part off????
Great tips!
Nice work
The greek way... Smart. Mpravo sou savva
Great job.
i've seen my father dismantle some wood and he does it same way you do..this is good advice
thank you , will be trying that on Monday
Ok that's cute with a new pine pallet. Now do it with an old oak pallet.

Luke Makowski Why use an old pallet if you can get a new one?
@sarahharrison4780

Luke Makowski I have really heavy pallets too. they aren't old they are solid. if been using an ace and hammer placjng the hammer betweem the 2 pieces of qood and hitting the back with the hammer to get it to wedge between them and going along it prising it. it takes ages but it does work.
Amazing. I'm combining this with a hollow screw extractor followed by tapping dowels into the holes with wood glue. I can tear a pallet in under 10 minutes nails, dowels and all. I do however have a work station set up to facilitate the process
Awesome! Now I need to get some cheap or free pallets and be able to transport them to my house.
Nice technique
Very helpful, thank you.
Good job 👍
Extremely helpfull, thank you so much!!
Struggled to dismantle a pallet today, will try your way!
I find that when a nail bends i hold the nail with pliers at the weak spot and it seems to help the nail stay strait when i hit it.
Nice work man
awsome photography
Good info Hello from Malaysia
very clever guy and smart method i´m very fan of this pallets i´m newbie
Muito bom, parabéns !!!
i saw this video and i love it im going to try this afternoon cause im working with pallet.
really nice dude, learnt a couple of things there
Thanks!Great job!
You may want to invest in an air hammer, the kind that fits in the palm of your hand. It will drive the nails back in seconds and do a better job than anyone can with a hammer. Trust me on this one, I spent ten years teaching construction methods at a community college and prefer to swing a hammer to using an air nailer, but the palm air hammer is a tool I like.
Are you ever good with those hammers!!!!!! I have used the two bar trick I saw on another video. I sure will try this method. Great video, Thank you... Are you ever good with those hammers!!!!!
thanks for the tips. I just dismantled my 1st pallet. thanks!
I recently saw an ad in Craig's List for 50 free pallets. They certainly are plentiful.
Thanks for this video. I used it today.
Got a video on dismantling the other type of pallet that doesn't have the blocks?
