this video is so perfectly done. It shows proper technique using the clam shovel. More importantly, than just bagging a limit, the vodeo demonstrates the most valuable aspect of this crazy fun activity. They focus, the intent of the video, on the primary objective, -having fun. The fun aspect is often missed or overlooked. Why? How?, Being too intently driven by being succeed. Too driven to grab a limit for "bragging rights", Too driven by ego, too driven to prove one's digging prowess. In doing so, these types of diggers forget to look at the beautiful surf. They never take a moment to deeply inhale the surf salt air, to listen to the power of mother earth as she pounds the beach with massive waves. When digging razors, a person can move from hole to hole, filling the clam bag with a full limit and then hurry back home. Eventually that digger will fill their belly with delicious fried razor clam. The digger that marvels at the majesty of the ocean as they look through their windshield as soon as they shift their vehicle into park, experiences peace within their soul. Deeply Inhaling the salty surf air as they slowly stroll to the surfs edge, they renew tranquility within. At the sight of the first doughnut shape mound, recently made as the clam retracts it's neck to avoid detection, elicits pure excitement in the soul, so rarely felt since childhood days. The suspense builds from the moment the clam gun is placed over the dimple in the beach, until the gun is muscled down into the sand below, where the clam has sought refuge. Only when the clam gun tube is pulled from the hole and the round column of tightly packed sand is dumped onto the beach, does one experience the thrill of success. Laying at their feet is the dark amber brown colored shell of the razor clam. The brief disappointment of not having a clam slide out from the clam gun is short lived. With fortitude and a few more steps across the beach, another doughnut or dimple in the sand will reveal another razor clam below. The excitement returns and the clam gun is once again driven into the sand as the roar of the surf surrounds.

A frying pan of breaded razor clams indeed feeds the body. An adventure of going to the ocean beach in hopes of getting a few razor clams, if done with the proper perspective in mind, nourishes the soul.

Here on the northeast coast we have banana shaped razor clams that can move quickly through the loose sand. First thing is to stick your finger down the hole to figure out which direction they went. Since they're curved they move in a circle. You dig about a foot away from the hole to catch them.

Ive only been razor clammin maybe a handful of times with a clam gun. This last time just a few weeks ago I just had the worst luck and crushed like half my limit. I think next time im going to try it out with a shovel and hopefully it prevents me from crushing/cracking the razor clams. To be honest using a shovel seems to be more fun.

We’ve got an area up here called Clam Gulch that I’m hopeful to try. Clamming was shut down here this year for the entire Cook Inlet but hopefully next year we can give it a try! I definitely thought you were gonna say those were shrimp shows because of the way they are 😂
