    MISLEADING title. This is just a video about checking and filling up tire pressure. Its only the first step. There is no diagnostic or repair involved here.

    I used to pressurize tire to the psi on the placard but I was wearing michelin tires out in 40k miles,so I bumped the psi up 7 or 8 lbs and got 60k.

    That's a pretty nice air gauge. I like the feature of where you hook up the air supply to it. Nice video Jim...

    Nice video Jim! These are the nice easy ones until you get RCDLR issues & then it gets fun. I think this was a great safety addition b/c tires are probably the most neglected & most important part of the car with brakes a strong second!

    I've been doing this for over 40 yrs and watched people drive in with under/over inflated tires leaking down from bad valve stems/cores, cuts, punctures and most never knew it which is pretty dangerous on the highway. I'm glad they have it b/c my wife has run over nails twice in the past year and was @16 psi and she never knew it except she said that tire symbol is lit can you look at it...:-)

    You right about that.The most important part of the car and yet the owner drive with little to no air in the tire and ignore the TPMS light..I hope all is well.

    That is great that your wife saw the low tire pressure on the dash.I drive a lot of customer cars and I will tell them that the low tire pressure light is on and they will tell me "oh I didn't see that"I tell the owners that You always need to observe the gauges.

    I can’t believe there are people who drive cars and don’t know how to measure tyre pressures pump air and re check of few days later to discover air loss means puncture. More money than sense.

    Hey Jim great video ,what is the effect of temperature to a tires pressure when reading it on the road? And also is there a difference between the TPMS light , and the (!) light ?Do they mean something different since some cars have both?

  • @jimthecarguy

    @jimthecarguy

    8 жыл бұрын

    Good question.The key to proper tire performance is the correct pressure.If the pressure is low the tires will start to over heat causing a failure.

  • @NewLevelAuto

    @NewLevelAuto

    +jimthecarguy For example in this video you let some air out of the tire saying it was over inflated, could it have been that the tire was hot and had a higher pressure? If it would have just come off the road , hot asphalt and friction, would the pressure then have come back down as the temperature decreased?

  • @jimthecarguy

    You are correct about the temp and the pressure but this truck was in my shop over night so the temp was not a problem

    I agree that the tire heats up as you drive on it, thus increasing the pressure. However, like Jim said, if your pressure is too low, why does the tire overheat and explode? Seems a bit confusing, unless there is a hidden variable?

    Jim- I'm a subscriber; I have a question about this pressure gauge that you recommended in this video. First, I ordered it yesterday just to try it out and give it its fair due. However I am a bit skeptical and concerned because I've had one of these in the past and after a short while the gauge began to show readings that were crazy-way off. I mean not even close. Granted, the gauge I had was the needle variety, old school stuff. It was not a digital one like yours. That was a part of the reason I decided to try it actually, I wouldn't have bought another of the type I had previously. So my question is: how durable is this gauge? How long have you had yours? Have you ever had one die on you? Thanks

  • @jimthecarguy

    This digital gauge is not that old just a few months but it seams very good .I do like the newer digital over the older ones with the needle As for gauges dying I have had a lot of broken ones mostly from being dropped or run over.Lol

    I'm not sure why "..and repair the TPMS System" is in the title. The "S" already means "system" but more importantly, you only checked tired pressure on the car. You repaired nothing.
