I guess most of places we have in the UK, we have to either comprise and I guess in most common cases we need to double up our living room spaces as home theatres. So you get the windows and everything that comes with that.... would love to see your take on screen selection and speaker placements. Loving your channel by the way!

Appreciate the support my friend, sincerely. Truthfully the majority of our Theater/Media rooms anymore are the same way. Even in homes where they have the space, the trend seems to be to open themed spaces, or dual purpose media rooms. So we see a lot of windows, and ambient light. I believe the word you’re looking for when trying to describe the seating distance from front seats to screen is field of view or peripheral vision. 😊 Great video though.

Do you recommend a bar seating in the last row, or it messes audio performance?

Thanks very much for taking the time to make this video - it was very informative. I was wondering why you choose the direction of the home cinema the way you do... I have seen pictures of home theatres done length ways (like the diagram in the video) but have also seen many that have been done width ways. Is one better than the other?

I think the general consensus is that the rectangle is the best shape, with the screen/projector being on the smallest wall, this is similar to what you find in most Cinemas. but like all things, some spaces lay out different, or Clients choose seating or some other element which changes the layout design. And that's totally ok in my book.

Looked for the link to projector central.. not there. I have space for a small theater room in my basement but I have limitations. The ceiling is open with a height of 7’4” and after I build the walls to the columns I have a 10’ width. I can make the length up to 25’ and I can put the door on the side wall. I would like to do an atmos setup with in ceiling speakers. Is it doable with that ceiling height and what would be the ideal length and screen size? Thanks for the help and for doing this video.

awesome vid like all the projects> Here´s a tricky question: If the room have 3 rows of seats, imagine that the first row its also reclinable seats, how can we measure the maximum height of the viewer head based in the lower point of the screen? So the head wont get in front of the Subtitles for an example?? Lets try this? 7 meters long, 4 meter wide room, 130 inch 16:9 screen , optoma UHD60 propjetor To reach this screen size its 5mts projector /screen, a view point of 3 mts from the screen its to big. The firt row have to be around screen to 3 mts.

In your opinion, how important are the angles for the atmos ceiling speakers? I want to eventually do a 7.2.4. if I follow the recommendations of 35° to 55°, my rear Atmos speakers would only be about 1'6" from my back wall. And my front Atmos speakers would be almost on top of my left and right front speakers. would you recommend I move my speakers a little bit in towards my king seat? Or maybe go with a 5.2.4.

How far back do you recommend 1- a projector to go from the screen wall , 2-what devices should be planned on to enjoy the media space(receiver, game systems etc?

I’m framing my room now. It is 11’ wide and 25’ long. Planning to reduce the length by 5’. Also planning to do a sectional vs theater seats to prevent obstacles for sound. Two questions 1. How far from the back wall would you place the sectional. 2. Does the projector have to be above or behind seating or is it ok to have it in front of seating.

I would give yr self 3 to5 ft. U want distance between your rear surround sound speakers. 😁👍👍👍

Probably do Epson or BenQ in that price range. Might find some online models, or something from someone like LG that's in that price point as well.

Buy the projector you want and set it up. Then turn it on and measure the size it is on yr wall. Their you go. 😁👍👍👍

what would the price range be for building a theater? could 15-20 grand build a decent one?

Do you have any videos that explain how to layout a theater room electrical circuits? I'm planning on building a theater room and at this point I'm planning on 2 circuits of 12 guage 20 Amp I'll have 11.4.2 reciever projector game system bluray player. 6 power seats. Any advice would help since there are not any videos that really explain how to plan it out.

What is the ideal room size for a media room with a screen size of 120”?

Good ideas to consider for a pre-existing room. But what if your home has a basement that's unfinished? You could map out the room size you want and finish the rest of the basement around the HT room....Do a video from THAT starting point. Too many people start with a pre-exiting room. So they only focus on seat and screen locations. Screen size. And more so the gear. Neglecting things like "acoustic treatments" and "sound suppression". So they build their idea of their dream HT room. Only to find the sound leaks out throughout the home and into the neighbours' home on either size of you. Most of us only have maybe 8-10 feet between homes. You get your gear calibrated, pop in a 4k BluRay and start watching...then you get a knocking on your front door. Neighbours politely asking you to turn down the volume. So you end up having to have the volume at a lower level than you want. Bummer!! :) In designing a HT...we have to factor in 1. sound "containment" (e.g. sound controlling insulation by ROXUL or Corning, thicker drywall inside the room...etc.). 2. Acoustic Treatment (sound absorbing and reflecting pannels). 3. seating screen placement.........THEN, the gear!1 :) Most start from 4....spend most of their money on the gear

Is surround sound only available through a set?

Great video. I myself am stubborn. If I want a 180"-200" screen and they said - Well you can't have it that big I would say Like Hell I just build my own screen and do everything myself and I would tell them to hit the bricks.

Haha - I get it. At least with us, it's rarely about saying you 'cant' have something, and more just making sure you understand the pros and cons so your expectations are accurate. So if you wanted a 180-200" screen we'd be cool with that. Appreciate the support man. Keep fighting!

I think most people's issue is that they have to sacrifice screen size for optimal seating placement. Obviously you need a fairly large theater space in order to maximize sound (ie king's chair close center), yet not be so close to the screen wall that you end up installing a tiny screen.

If u could build any size movie room. What size and hight would it be???? I heard 17 wide by 23ft long by 10ft high is the best.😁

Adam M won’t hurt. If it’s to block light, then for sure it will help, depending on the fabric could also act as a sound absorber for back wall so some advantages there. But not something we’ve done in our theaters unless there’s ambient light to address.

I have a question. My theater room is 15.8x21.3 But we are having to use the 15.8 as the W and 21.3 as the Length so the seating has to be worked around the 15.8 the wall is only 7’ tall

When you build a room size how do you’s go by foot or feet for wide n length of the room?

Victor Pulos I don’t think there’s a perfect measurement, but we see a lot of rooms that are 16-18’ wide, and 18-22’ deep.

You only need two speakers. As long as they are Walsh Ohm's 2000 or higher.

The problem with Me is I've always had to compromise everything growing up. Now that I'm 49 years old going on 50 and slowly dying of Stage 4 Inoperable Double Lung Cancer I'm DONE Compromising. I know people think that's a bad thing but that's just how I am.

Horrible horrible background music made this valuable video very difficult to watch. Please skip the bgm in the future videos.
