When I first put the vinegar in, I also like to let it sit in the top portion of the brewer for a while before closing the lid that makes the liquid start flowing out. Like 30 minutes or so. that way the vinegar sits in the top portion to clean it, before sending the vinegar in to the heated reserve part of the brewer. i also scrub the top grated section where you pour in the liquid with a clean tooth brush while the vinegar is filled up to the brim, and once the vinegar was in the reserve tank for a bit, i shook the whole unit a bit, as well as after the vinegar sat for 2 hours i shook it up before draining the vinegar

Thanks for the sub! So sorry to hear about your dad, Let me know if I can help in any way!!!
TY so very much for posting this video. My son in law used vinegar on his & the machine wouldn't work anymore. My guess is that he didn't use distilled vinegar. Don't know didn't ask him. My Bunn was taking over an hour to brew 4 cups. Based on my son in laws experience, I was a little nervous. I was short the full 32oz of vinegar by a couple of cups but still worked beautifully. I was shocked that the water with the vinegar resting for a couple of hours was green 🤢🤮. That was very shocking to think my coffee was coming thru that! After the full process, per your video, minus a few cups of vinegar...... total success! I had 4 cups of coffee in less than a minute. Amazing. I will be de-scaling more often now. Thank you ❤
I filled the tank and then allowed the water to boil before adding the vinigar. Those who commented about tipping the unit upside down in the sink to drain the tank really had a good idea. But after my Bunn Pour Omatic sat for over 3 years without use, it still produces clean fresh water after your vinigar treatment. I rinced the tank many times until the smell of vinigar was gone...and then flushed it a few more times just to be sure. Makes perfect coffee! Thanks for your video. The tip about taking the spray head off was important as was the removal of the basket to allow the water to flow directly into the pot. Otherwise, the basket fills to the point of overflowing, which ain't good as you saw in your first attempt. Thanks again!

Just recently got a vintage Bunn Pour-o-matic commercial coffee maker at a thrift store. This video was super helpful. Thank you so much!
As a happy Bunn owner over the years, I've learned to use softened RO or distilled water from day one to mitigate mineral deposit buildup. It definitely helps. Excellent video.

Mine came with a cleaning rod that looks like a long spring tapered on both ends that once one removes the brew head, you insert as far into the brew tube as you can get and stroke it back and forth a few times. This helps in descaling the brew tube; you do this after the first rinse. I've been using these Bunn's for as long as I can remember; they lasted a good 20-plus years. Perfect brew in 3 minutes, and if it takes longer, it needs to be cleaned. A quick tip; once a week, run a half cup of Viniger with two rinses running the cleaning rod, and you'll never have a lick of trouble with your Bunn.
Thanks for this tutorial this grandma is ready to go clean her coffee maker .

Thank you for this video! I have the same Bunn model. I also found with this model if you remove the two screws located where you fill the reservoir, you can take the top off. When I removed mine, there was a considerable amount of scale build up in this reservoir. There are 4 screws holding the reservoir in. Remove these and you can remove it and wash it by hand. Once reassembled, you can continue with the tank descaling.

Yes ! By the way - Great coffee really starts with good water! I do not work for them but- I recommend a Zero Water Filter to take out the minerals in the water. If you will use them - They actually provide you with a meter that measures the percent of solids in the water. I keep mine at 0-3 percent and never have any scale whatsoever. I use this water filtration on several coffeemakers, and even my espresso machine. Coffee tastes great, and no lime scale either.

I've done this for years but never saw the tank dismantled to show the deposits build up. Great job showing this. One thing to keep in mind is to leave brew head off and also remove top of carafe for speedier spill free flushing. Easier to hit the carafe without spilling!

After I removed my spray head I run the cleaning tool, metal wire tool, from Bunn, thru the hole where the spray head attaches, back and forth all but about 2". Then I poured a pot of vinegar thru like you did. I rinsed mine out more, maybe 10 full pot's of clean water to get rid of the vinegar taste and flush it out good. Thanks, John

That's a brand new Bunn coffee maker he is cleaning in this video. You can use the carafe to measure the 4 ups of vinegar, then top off the carafe with water at 10 cups. Leave the sprayer head off when flushing AND NO LID ON THE CARAFE. I do my Bunn every two to four weeks, so there is no need to turn the internal heating element off and wait for two hours. I typically wait 20 to 30 minutes before flushing. Also, I flush with water at least 7 times to remove the vinegar. This is because the coffee "tasted like vinegar" after someone watched me clean it with vinegar while they were waiting to make their morning coffee. Four or five rinses should be more than sufficient. Just make certain that you fill up the carafe all the way to the top to ensure that the levels of flushing water are greater than the initial vinegar and water mixture initially poured into the machine. This will increase the ability for the rinses to completely eradicate the vinegar and deposits from the internal chamber.
Thanks because wasn't sure we could use vinegar in the Bunn coffee makers.
Thank you!

Try tipping the maker over a bit in the sink while it straddles both sinks after cleaning with vinegar. Water will come out of the "nozzle". You will be amazed at what comes out, its actually gross. I dont consider it clean until I do this a few times . The sediment that comes out is unreal.

That’s the way you cleaned it in the old manuals. By taking the spray head off and tipping it upside down in the sink you get all the debris that settled on the bottom. If there are big chunks of scale you can fill it up half way and shake it a bunch to break it all up and tip it upside down over the sink and you will get most of it out. You may have to use the descale tool a few times to unclog the hole to keep it flowing. It’s the same procedure in the manual for draining the water tank.

Gotcha, thanks for the reply! You ever try that Seattles Best #5?
How often can be better determined by water quality than by a fixed amount of time. You can unscrew the brew nozzle and check for scales. Right now mine is so bad I have scales - actually looks like fish scales - in it after every brew, so each morning I unscrew the nozzle and clean it out or the scales will cover the holes in the nozzle and it won't spray. Then I have to run water through it to dislodge the scales in waiting. Then screw the nozzle back on and brew a pot. A quick test is to leave the basket out, open the lid, place the pot in position and run a few cups of water through it. You should have 5 holes a squirting, which along with optimum brew time of about 3 minutes and optimum brew temp at +- 200 degrees is the whole purpose of the Bunn system. I really don't see how this is less brew worthy than the supposedly most effective pour over method.
Aren't you also supposed to use that flexible metal descaling tool to clean out the dispenser nozzle?

I noticed on Amazon the numbers of folks (commenting) who did not know (or understand the instructions) that you have to leave the switch in ON position all the time to get instant hot brewed coffee, they hated the Bunn due to cold coffee😂😂😂. Perhaps you should make a video to show how to USE a new Bunn. You know, for the idiots who don’t get it! I was surprised at the number of buyers who complained that it didn’t work. And about it not having a timer to set,😂😂😂. Yeah, the switch has to be on unless you go away. Then you turn it off. Been using Bunn’s for decades, never had one fail. Gave up on the Bunn stainless steel pot, cleaning was a real frustration and getting any bacteria around the collar nearly impossible so I went back to glass carafes. 🕊✌️🇺🇸🌟

They say that being wize comes with old age, but the more I see grumpy old men berating people on the internet because they are having a male Karen moment, and cant understand the video or be bothered to rewind the video to watch another 10 seconds, the more I understand why our world is in the state it's in. In the video he stated that you pour in 32 oz of distilled white vinegar with the switch ON. once the water pours from the tank into the decanter you turn the switch OFF. let the unit sit for 2 hours with the switch OFF. After 2 hours, with the switch OFF, you take off the spray head, replace the basket, and run 3 decanters of cold water through the unit to flush out the impurities and vinegar. After that you replace the spray head, then turn the switch ON and allow the unit to heat for several minutes. Now you're done. As for Just a dad videos, you did great and this tutorial helped me understand the proper steps to take while cleaning my coffee maker. Keep up the good work and I love your format.
