Shoe trees are the best investment one can buy for shoes. It makes a night and day difference since i started using them for my leather shoes.

@@Someguy8822 As long as they are cedar, you can buy them from amzon for cheap. All my dress shoes and most of my boots have their own shoe trees.

If it is okay with you can I ask you a few questions about the problems that you were facing before you knew this method of getting rid of shoe odor and how you felt about those problems?? I thinking about making a product that can eleminate the smell from smelly shoes and before I actually make it I would love it if I could get a few people's experiences through asking a few set of questions.

I'm a woman and I love this channel. So many channels for women but not as specific, classy and informative like this one.

Never thought about it Preston but I have Cedar trees in all my shoes and they keep them fresh and looking new

I haven't done anything heroic to eliminate any odors from my shoes. But I do rotate them, as suggested in the video. Thanks for posting this.

I am in agreement with putting shoes into rotation. Never wear shoes two days in a row. Also, I have found that you can find desiccants for free. Many snacks and some packaged foods come with small packs of material. Don't throw it away ! They are valuable. Stash one in your shoe and it will remain fresh and dry, the next time you put it on. Finally, invest in a good shoe brush. After wearing, lightly brush your shoes and they will be clean and neat, forever.

Good advice here. I find cedar wood shoe trees do a good job and prolong shoe life. Insoles help too.

My feet sweat a lot too, so I use a few methods. One, I never wear the same pair of shoes more than one day in a row, give the shoes a chance to dry out. Two, I wear dress socks with less nylon since that material causes feet to sweat more and smell more. If needed I use foot powder spray in the shoes to keep them fresh. Of course washing your feet thoroughly each day and keeping your foot skin and toenails managed helps to prevent odor.

I use antiperspirant roll on (Dove non-scented) directly on fibrous insoles and on feet before putting on socks. For leather insoles, you can put a little on a cloth and put it inside the shoe. Antiperspirant kills off the bacteria that cause the smell while charcoal and baking soda only absorb the smell. A shoe treated with antiperspirant ( like trainers and sneakers) if done from new will not develop the problem, one such treatment lasts a couple of wears. I agree with you on rotating shoes daily, but sometimes not possible with company issued work boots etc. The antiperspirant kills the smell on really stinky boots quickly. I mentioned Dove but any good quality gel or roll on will work.

Great and informative video as always. In my case, I use bicarbonate of soda, but instead of using it on the shoes I apply it directly on my feet after bathing. That way my feet won't stink or stink up my shoes either.

When you were explaining what causes smells and finished with “Gross, right?” I choked on my spit laughing so hard

The best cure for smelly shoes is prevention. Toward that end, I spray the inside of all my footwear with Febreeze "Linen & Sky" every time I remove them. I have a pair of 14yr-old cowboy boots I've worn daily and they're still odor free. Even my fishing shoes are odorless. That stuff works!

@@gangroklee9053 leather is a natural odor fighter, only used shoe trees in my full leather shoes/boots on a few pairs of 23+ year-old boots. Fabric sneakers are much different and have to use occasional baking powder/charcoal treatment.

Old sports shoes: I put dust free kitty litter in an old sock. Insert in shoes after using.

Sprinkle dry baking soda liberally inside of shoes. Leave overnight, and shake and wipe out with dry cloth.

In Colombia we use foot powder every day. It's talcum and baking soda we apply before wearing socks.

Using good cedar shoes trees as well as rotating how often you wear your shoes will help tremendously.

One of the things I used to do was, a used dried tea bag ..... I am not sure if it absorbed the moisture or just added an odor to mask the other but It worked for me :)

Put few drops of vinegar in your shoes from time to time (monthly or so) and let them dry. Also wash your feet and rinse them with vinegar. Magic.

Lavender and cedar wood also keep moths away. Every now and then, I'd sand my cedar wood to bring out the natural oil scent. This way, the cedar wood will last you forever.

I swap pairs of boots that I use for work, every other day. I remove my insoles and leave them out to dry and put my boots in front of one of the fans that we have.

VERY INFORMATIVE....

A friend made the mistake of dusting the inside of his running shoes with baking soda before a run, and I suppose it was the abrasiveness, but it hurt so much he had to stop and gingerly walk home. So, I wonder if there's something better than an old sock for stuffing with baking soda, activated charcoal, and or cedar shavings? Any ideas? The old socks may allow too much carbon or baking soda to leak through the relatively loose threads in the fiber.

Would shoe trees help disinfect used shoes that might’ve been worn by someone who had athletes foot? I just bought a used pair of leather skates and a used pair of suede skates and am hesitant to put my foot into someone else’s toe jam without first trying to disinfect any ick that might be lurking inside.

I am confused by this "gentleman culture" to be quite honest. It seems to cling to some very antiquated and outdated ideas of social human interaction. I mean, do you. But its odd to me. Baking soda should be equally applied on all surface inside so that it soaks up all odor causing bacteria. The problem is baking soda will only settle at the bottom.

At the end of every day my boots go on my Peet dryer. It’s one of the best things I’ve ever bought. The dryer works on my cowboy boots, dress shoes, and athletic shoes.

Me too. Got it for our snow days, and now when I go for a run, out it comes after a spritz of fabric deodorizer. One of the best purchases I’ve made and it was many years ago!

Baking soda is terrible for leather shoes. Any trace that's in it will permeate the leather eventually and come through to the outside in the form of a weird white stain. I still haven't figured out how to get it our because it just keeps returning each time I shine them.

I use full bottle of peroxide inside my running shoes, put into a plastic bag for about half an hour after the bubbling has subsided. Then throw them into my washer on warm wash with some laundry soap. (White tennis shoes get some bleach), then onto my Peet shoe dryer to get them dry in about an hour or so. Whalla! Fresh as the day I bought them. My husband swears by my process, and his workout shoes are THE worst!! I wish I knew of a way to get the smell to not occur in the first place from the body...👍🥴😃 Have a great day everyone!

Something important to note is 99.9% of all socks are synthetic or have a mix of synthetic fiber. I am on a mission to find budget wool boot socks. Which this doesnt seem to exist any more... Theres a huge opportunity for someone to start a Cost Plus Wool socks company....

Cedar shoe trees don't work for me. Neither do odor eater inserts. So far I've found nothing that works.

Stuff your smelly trainers with cheap tea bags. They absorb all moisture and leave a pleasant scent. :)

Yes to #2, no to #1; shoes don't perspire. All you're doing is adding a masking odor in the form of the antiperspirant's added scent. (Spraying your FEET with antiperspirant, on the other hand, can be beneficial.)

Wearing socks and keeping them in a well ventilated are is more successful

I use wintergreen scented rubbing alcohol on my feet to deoderize them after my day at work.
