I have been dehydrating for 6 years running now. The pantry space it saves is incredible. I puréed a 35 pound blue Hubbard squash and made chips I throw into soups, sauces, stews. I was able to fit that entire 35 pound squash into 1 quart jar. I do the same with pumpkin and other squashes.

Dehydrating frozen fruits and veggies is sooo easy! They're already cut, washed, and blanched and ready to go. I just open the package and dump them onto the trays frozen. They thaw pretty quickly in the dehydrator. I recently tried doing stir fry veggies. They turned out great! Just avoid the mixes with baby corn. The baby corn cobs take forever to dry and they don't rehydrate nicely at all. They get rubbery, yet mushy. Yuck! TIP- if you're dehydrating frozen fruits like strawberries that release a lot of juice when they thaw, put them on the bottom so they don't drip on other foods, and put a fruit roll tray in the very bottom to catch all the drips.

Another way to use dehydrated vegetables is to grind them to a powder in a blender. I did that with tomatoes then rehydrated the powder to the consistency of tomato sauce or paste depending on what I needed. My son and daughter-in-love dehydrate and grind vegetables and herbs then mix into sour cream or yogurt to make amazing dips of whatever flavors you like. But using frozen vegetables is completely new to me and I love the idea. My days of extreme vegetable chopping are over. Thanks!

You can prevent the corn from darkening by lowering the temperature on your dehydrator a little. It's the heat caramelizing the sugars that causes it to darken. It will take a little longer to dehydrate though.

I love Darcy's channel. I also started with dehydrated frozen veggies. I didn't rinse them or thaw them before putting them in. Was so easy. Celery was another great one as I never end up using it all before it goes bad. Now, I have a good stock for the future and kept the trimmings for future bone broth. I love dehydrating because it's passive work. After you slice it all up or in this case, pour the bag out, the machine does the rest. I have grape tomatoes and celery in my dehydrator now. Carrots are next. Darcy does show how to condition your food before storing.

Hi from the UK. Thank you for y,our videos they are very helpful as dehydration is not common proctice ihere. With food and energy prices rocketing I started buying frozen veg to add to my stores when covid hit. One HUGE suggestion I have to offer here (from experience) is once the veg is defrosted blot them GENTLY using paper towels or cloth.before putting them in the dehydrator. This removes an incredible amount of water and so saves time and energy . This works especially well with frozen sliced mushrooms. it cut dehydration time by nearly 50%. Many thanks again.

I got an electric dehydrator and did a load of frozen vegetables, but the temp kept varying too much so I sent it back. Now I just dehydrate during the winter on racks next to my wood stove. It works a charm. Lots of veggies for very little money or time and no extra electric bill - especially with our electric rates having tripled here.

I love that book, The Ultimate Dehydrator Cookbook. Darcy is also fantastic. Great tips in here. Thank you so much! Green peas do not rehydrate well for me so I will definitely try the way you did Lima beans and corn. As for storage, I seal in half gallon jars or Mylar bags but I also keep a pint jar of the commonly used ones on a kitchen shelf for quick uses. That prevents opening the large jars as often. I do use the moisture retardant packs in my dehydrated goods as it is very humid here and they are extremely beneficial. Very helpful video, sweet friend.

So happy you did this with FROZEN vegs! I've got a 5# bag from the food shelf taking up too much freezer space, and I'm afraid of freezer burn, tbh. I use the small bags a lot, but that big bag came in a box that I had no choice over.

Darcy says that if you know you are going to use some dried veggies the next day, put the amount you need in a jar with a bunch of water and let it soak overnight in your fridge. by time you need it, it should be ready. Haven't tried that, but it is an option. And yes, would love some dog treat recipes.

Frozen! Brilliant. That saves so much time. Thanks for the demo. Im watching because I rescue guinea pigs and they love dried veggies, but the little pet bags are so expensive. And the bulk bags that are usually advertised as soup blends always contain onions, which is very very bad for guinea pigs. They should never have onion. Zero. With your example hopefully I can produce something easily that the little ones will love.

I always cook my frozen vegetables before using them. They never seem like they've been cooked enough just heating them up. I don't do that with cauliflower or broccoli though as they would be mush. I am a follower of The Purposeful Panty and have dehydrated mixed vegetables and if not putting them in soup or stews I always cook them just like I would the frozen veggies. I never used the lid so that is a great tip to know. Thanks Mary! I'm so glad I found your channel.

Hi Mary, I love your channel. 🌷. I’m not sure that your frozen mix is particularly Mexican. “Guarnición” means “side dish” in Spanish, so it can be a variety of foods. In Argentina we use a similar mix of corn, peas, chopped carrots, potatoes and eggs mixed with mayonnaise and served cold which we call “Russian Salad” - I doubt it is particularly Russian, but it’s a popular way of encouraging kids to eat veggies. 😘

My Malamutes adored green beans, happily snacking on any green beans, wax beans or Romano beans that had gotten too big and woody to eat (I didn't try saving bean seed then, as when I have tried, the rest of the plant stopped producing).
