How to Defend the Crossface and Escape from Side Control

Спорт

Being on the bottom of side control when your opponent has heavy crossface pressure is terrible. Here Rob Biernacki (check out his BJJ Formula at www.grapplearts.com/formula) show you how to recover your base, posture and structure, nullify the cross face, and escape from side mount.

Thanks for this, I always struggle against bigger guys who know how to get that crossface pressure on. Now I've got something I can try next time!

lmao i'm one of these "he'll eventually get bored of staying in crossface and move" but i'd rathher be more proactive, that shoulder detail is really cool, i'll try that cause i'm tired of 200+ lbs guys chillin on me.

Sometimes it's confusing watching bjj youtube video because this video is in contradiction with the so famous "classic" side control escape ( shrimping using forearm in the hip) many advanced belts teaches. Even competitors like Lachlan advises the classic escape. Btw a technique from this very good channel should be ok, at least I will test it. Thanks for the idea.

Would bringing your elbow up you pull down on the shoulder put you in danger of them sliding the leg under your shoulder, and then switching to a darce and head and arm choke?

Dear Stephan. I am wondering if you could show a technique for when your guillotine choke fails? Especially in an mma or self defense situation, the guillotine seems like an "all or nothing manoeuvre". The problem is, when the guillotine fails, and you have to let go of his neck, you are always in a situation where you can get hit easily. I am wondering if you could prove me wrong and show a counter move for when you have to let go of the guillotine.

The idea of this escape is sound. Relieving the shoulder pressure and getting frames back. However, it would never be that easy against someone with a good cross face. Stephen is being really kind with his base making it very easy for this to work. You should never be on your knees when applying a string cross face. And the side control is a little too close to the hips for a strong cross face. For me if a technique is legit you should be able to apply the position properly and then see it work. Work the escape without resistance but atleast in the correct place. Even without trying to keep the position by fighting back on top, it would be incredibly difficult to escape this position. On the plus side, cross faces are one of the best positions for control in a comp setting, even more so in the gi. Osss.

Stephans' side control is pretty weak like that. His butt waaayyyy to high, having your knees so close to the other guys body isn't doing yourself any favour as well. As for anyone ever pushing you off like this guy is showing you, good luck doing this when I put my entire weight right on your head. Ps. I know that he's just posing like this to train these techniques. But why train them at all if it soly relies on someone being bad at sidecontrol. Love your videos.

This video is complete make-believe. Might as well be teaching them ki-strikes and aikido throws None of that is going to get rid of a locked up crossface. At least tell them to time that with then your opponent tries to move to mount or adjusts or let's go to try and get the kimura so they don't have completely unrealistic ex[ectations
