How to decelerate & stop on downhill slopes on inline skates using the T Stop & Stepping Plough stop

Спорт

NOTHING is more important in your skating life than being able to stop whenever you need to. Don't leave your stopping training to Trial & Error. Weak stops will lead to slow progress, frustration and possibly giving up skating (especially if weak stopping causes a fall).
Stops & Slides Online Training. Choose which of the following stops you need the most.

Using the Skatefresh Method to learn stopping techniques allows you to progress at your pace, setting your study and practice time when it suits you. Working through the Core principles and Progression exercises will show you what's been missing in terms of control, agility, balance and edge control. When you acquire the skills demanded by the stop you'll then use your practice time efficiently, rather than just endlessly "practicing" the manoeuvre without success.
This video focusses on the Plough, Stepping Plough and T-Stop for controlling speed on downhill slopes. Using real students (Ian, Chris & Kat from Brighton) to identify some of the common problems Asha shows you how to improve these stopping methods.
Common Problems with the Plough stop on slopes - not being wide enough in the plough A stance means no deceleration and scary downhill acceleration instead..
Common Problems with the T-stop - spinning, loss of balance, can't hold it long enough to come to a stop. This is caused by instability on the front (support) leg during the T-slide. This is why the T-Stop is an Intermediate level stop (and not a beginner stop). It demands a HIGH LEVEL of edge control, one legged balance, steering control and core strength
Progressions are the only way to learn new stopping methods especially if you've tried to learn them by copying others & watching KZread tips but it's still not working. The most common mistake is people thinking that they "just need to practice more". This is not what's missing, more practice time; What's missing are specific progression exercises and movements that are designed to develop the core skills which each manoeuvre demands.

Great choice! As you probably know, it has to be wide to be effective. The true "test" to any stopping methods' effectiveness is, does it slow you down and stop you on a slope? If yes, then well done, you've nailed it! If not, then this is just data to encourage you to keep working on it and using slopes regularly for conscious practice until that improves. Go for it!

Heya Asha, I'm pretty comfortable with stepping plough as a stop but I saw somewhere you first go into the plough position before doing the stepping part of the stop - what's the purpose of first going into the plough position?

  • @SkatefreshVideos

You can do either, straight into stepping or plough first. The normal (non-stepping_ plough has the ability to shave off 40-50% of the speed (by pushing the heels outwards), so making the stepping plough a little easier at lower speeds. That's the only reason I might plough first. However for many people they lack the technique to actually slow down effectively with the normal plough. It's not as easy as it looks.

@@SkatefreshVideos thank you, I did try regular plough once and didn't find it slowed me at all so haven't bothered since. I'll try work on it.

It sounds like you are trying to learn the stepping plough on a downhill slope. Why not make your life easier and start the process on flat ground. If the stepping plough works to slow you down and stop on flat ground THEN graduate to a downhill stop where you'll have to be even more precisely accurate with your technique for you to get good results on a slope. Everything should be a progression. I also imagine you are trying to learn without a series of progressions to teach you the core principles needed for the stepping plough to work. Do check the online training for Stepping plough as it really does work for making people finally get the stepping plough and have forever. skatefresh.com/stops-slides/

@@3rdtwirl494 smaller wheels can make it more easy to do the stepping plouch stop. Best to do that on a flat surface before trying it on a downhill.

Es la única manera. Pero siempre necesitamos de algunas semanas para hacer estos porque estamos ya con una lista de más de 100 vídeos. Espero que con los subtítulos de YT puedas entender….
