God, David you nailed it. As a first generation Chinese immigrant I've gone through very much the same. To a lesser extent. Rebelled against everything my parents wanted - to be a good Asian boy - tattoos, drugs, alcohol, played cards for a living, didn't speak to them for years. In the end we come full circle. I talk to them again now and they're proud. Not necessarily in the way they'd like me to be. If it was up to my mother we'd be living under the same roof and she'd cook me three meals a day, and I'd obey her every word. It's strange, but I relate to your demons. You can't explain freedom to someone who's not free. We're left feeling the pride we want our parents to feel for ourselves. But that's okay. That's one of the challenges of our generation.

i've been feeling like i took the wrong way for some time now. i'm 22, fell into addictions of different forms trying to find a lane that i can call my own and do something that has great impact in this life. that desire 2nd generation immigrants have to make their parents proud is beautiful, but at the same time it can be a roadblock to happiness. i'm starting to see the wrong way can be the right way, that i shouldn't second guess my instincts, even if the consequences of my decisions can keep me up at night. "To get to the right way, I had to take the back door." thank you for sharing a part of your story david, i'm sure it cleared some of the fog in more than just my mind.

My family has been here for at least a few generations and I also just wanted to make my parents proud, we were very poor and I believe that has something to do with it for me. Make them not worry that I will have to suffer in the ways they did.

My parents loved each other so much it's not even funny. Like Dan & Roseanne Conner love. I just wish they could've had the privilage to grow old together. I just want my family to be simply happy. My widowed mother and my 3 younger brothers. It's been a huge struggle since September 13th 2001 when my dad died of cancer at 39 years old and my mom was 35 at the time. Nothing has brought happiness to their lives but, I will die trying to make that happy life for them...Even if I never get to.

Thought you mentioned you were having a baby on your last episode when you talked with Asa Akita, so awesome man, when my daughter was born it blew my mind, I remember thinking, “this tiny person I’m holding in my hands is an entire universe of love and possibilities, it’s my universe, nothing else will compare to this.” And then the worry hit me 😂 but I grew to handle the worry and the weight and happiness of that tiny universe, I love being a dad man, can’t wait to see how your tiny universe inspires your work. You the man! 🤯👍

This was great man left me with a good warm hearted feeling, even though I know my moms love is unconditional it gets hard when looking for approval, and considering they’re usually the people in our lives the longest we look to our parents for that. This took some relief off of striving for their approval. Itll happen the way it happens and in the end of it I feel our parents will be proud. I just hope everyone will get to experience that :) THANKS DAVE!

Hey man love the video, as a video production guy I wanted to give you some criticism to help your channel, your whole video is great but your audio just needs one thing, turn the gain down on your mic because the audio is peaking a bit which causes the sound to get a little distorted, I used to do it too, one thing you can do it test speak in the mic and make sure it never goes above either -6db or -3db then it will never distort and then you can raise the volume in editing if you want. That way it will never distort at all! Also wanted to add that I really relate to this video, please don't stop the storytelling content!! (Also you can turn the gain down either on your audio interface or actual mic itself [for example a blue yeti] I think you like talking real close to the mic, and that's my preferred method too, but when you do that you have to turn the gain way down)

I've thought about this question a lot actually. My greatest wish would be to get my hands on a ship. Like get a decent sized vessel that we could load a few well digging trucks on. Then I would want to find an insane crew to not only load and unload the heavy machinery, but also sail the boat, drill wells, make paths for trucks in the jungle, etc... Once this team is assembled, we would travel the Earth providing fresh clean water to remote humans everywhere.
