People say KZread is for cute puppies and guys getting hit in the nuts. Every once in a while, a creator will take the time to teach you a new skill, helping you save time and money. This is one of those creators. I'm certainly not against a man earning a living, but these videos give me the confidence to paint my own home. Cheers for the content.

I've been painting for years with a red dixie cup and brush when cutting in. Then I take my 9 inch roller and get as close as possible to the ceiling to back roll. Your method of 2 gallon bucket with grid and 4 inch roller will save me time and do the whole process in one climb of the ladder. Thank you so much for this video 👍

I was taught to put my brush to the wall just below the ceiling and then twist at a 45 degree angle to create a point on the brush that will accumulate a flow of paint similar to a fountain pen. I can get pretty accurate and steady lines with one stroke using this method. Just sharing my method. Love your vids.

One way that really helped me speed up my cut-ins and get straighter lines was to follow my eye along the cut line instead of looking at the tip of the brush or the paint as its being applied. I've found that the brush automatically follows my eye along the line and I can pull for longer distances with an excellent line.

He owns Clark cabinets in Griffin, Ga and he has been doing caprentry work ever since he was a teenager. I am thankful for your videos. Running the paint dept at home depot and being a painter myself you answered a question I wanted to know about, that is doing your cut in more closer toward the ceiling than to low on the wall in order to show a straighter line and than back roll to hide the brush stroke marks, thanks chris you give very good advice on painting, and the girl at the end has a good sense of humor.

Love your videos and wished had known about the caulking/taping method back then would have made things lot faster and easier. Over this past weekend re-painted master bathroom (twice in 2 days didn’t like first color change) and daughter’s bedroom with color change (old man with 13 year old). At age of 68 now much harder on the back these days. Thanks again and loved the fact in one of your vids at bottom had 2 Timothy 8-9 and made me have lot of respect.

your 5&1 scoring technique can lead to potential bubbling to the tape in the ceiling line, the moisture from the paint has the potential to get behind the dry wall mud and cause the tape to bubble. Its a good idea but some might push to hard and cause issue that will have to be addressed in a month or so. I like cutting in with a 3 1/2 inch flat brush it holds more paint and my strokes can go longer. your videos are pretty good. I've been painting since 1986 and also own my own business. You simplify things for beginners well. Good luck on all your endeavors.

I run my 5-in-1 along the ceiling line just hard enough to leave a line which allows me to follow it and produce a fine line. Many ways to go about it really.

  • @isaacalvarez534

I think scoring the ceiling corners should only be done on popcorn ceilings heavily textured walls and ceilings or if there is no line to follow. scoring your line then running a small bead of caulking over it would be just right. if you are lucky you don't have to do any of that and you will have a good line to follow. if you're even luckier the one who painted before might have done a excellent job cutting in so all you gotta do is follow the previous cut.

You're awesome and s great craftsman, I've been painting 22 years now and luckily when I began I was trained and mentored by amazing painter's who Sincerely cared, I use to try to create my own line many years ago and basically it looked like one of those sherline pads, kinda leaves a picture frame look and isn't very appealing to anyone's eye😂, I'd see guy's cutting just flawlessly straight lines and they showed me to go about a dime's width onto the ceiling, any direction you looked, the wall color would just disappear up behind the ceiling, absolutely amazing and simple technique, on accent wall's though I do what you do with the caulk trick or I'll tape the adjacent walls, use the opposite color, seal my tape then when it dries I can go over the tape with the actual accent color, this will prevent leeching and bleed through. If there is no other colors adjacent to the accent, I'll just use clear paintable caulk, the Idaho painter knows his stuff and is definitely pro! Thank you so much. Lorenzo gig harbor WA.

I really learn alot from watching your videos. I have been a water damage restoration specialist for almost a decade and until this year I have only done the dismantle and drying portion. recently I started doing my own drywall repairs and painting, which isn't rocket science but I am a perfectionist and want to do the best job possible. there are two aspects of your videos that I really think is cool. first is the fact that you share scripture on the bottom. and second is that you share what products actually give the best results. there are so many different products out there and it can get confusing trying to pick out the best brushes and rollers heads. keep representing the kingdom and doing good work. Colossians 3:23-24

perfect instruction been painting for 30 years and all those things are what you learn to do over time...caulking will depend on type of job you want if you need it to be perfect like in a multi million dollar home but the average house you can fix with 5 in 1 and paint line. yes always just a little on the ceiling little as possible but if the line is consistent it will always look perfect. i like the 3 inch clear cuts angled and straight. the straight is better for large areas where you can make more time because they are box vs, thincut and the box is thicker and holds more paint. angled where theres more trim and bathrooms.

Your video was so helpful. I was painting a room with crown molding and was trying to cut in without touching the molding. It was a disaster! At 12:25 in your video you said you like to let the paint go up on the ceiling a little bit because it makes it look straighter. I decided to let my brush run along the bottom edge on the molding, painting it too, and it looks great. I was able to work my way around the room in no time, completely stress free! Thanks!

Did you know the whole story of mankind has a chaistic structure with the pivot point or mirror at the center of day/millennia # 4? Calvary, where innocent blood was made sin for us, justice and mercy kissed, and the blood which still lives sprinkled the mercy seat of God's earthly thrown which held His 10 love commandments. Ratifying the covenant and making a new temple built with living stones. And writing His commandments on our hearts. He sent the Comforter, which is His Spirit which will lead us into all truth and bring His example to mind so that we can stand and be counted with those who keep the commandments of God and have the faith of Jesus. In the spirit and not by the letter. As a matter of love and not merely an outward appearance to gain freshly pride. "Oh God, have mercy on me a sinner!" The veil of separation then was torn in twain, man's glorious redemption, from on high was gain. The earth did shake and the rocks were rent, the Son of God from heaven was sent. He was crucified on a cross of wood, though He made the hill on which it stood. Jamie (fellow painter) Thanks for the tips brother. Look up Ron Wyatt discoveries.

another tip: if your painting your own home and you have popcorn ceilings. TAKE THE POPCORN DOWN FIRST...lol popcorn ceilings are completely outdated and will make cutting in for a new painter feel impossible to maintain a straight line. im sure idaho painter can whip up a popcorn removal video for yall, its actually really easy skill wise its 90% prep work and cleanup lol :-)

  • @paulmolive84

It's easier to cut in a popcorn ceiling than a flat ceiling. With a flat ceiling your cut has to be straight as a razor. On popcorn its usually not possible to make it that straight. A Popcorn ceiling can take half the amount of time a flat ceiling would. Although i will agree popcorn is outdated and should be taken down if within your budget. Keep in mind that your ceiling was origianlly taped for popcorn, not flat. So you will have to fix the taping to make the ceiling flat to the eye. Otherwise at different times of the day your joists will look like waves from the light reflection.

@johnny boney Yes I agree. We charge a fair amount for the take down and skim service. But it really makes the space feel bigger. Depending on size of space the ceiling can feel 2 feet higher lol

NTM, old popcorn ceilings, esp. in commercial applications are asbestos. Never attempt to backroll an unpainted popcorn ceiling, learned that the hard way in the early days. I agree, remove it, esp. if its never been painted.

Millennium Man same here but if u plan on doing two coats water down your paint and use a stiff brush (purdy pro extra) the first run then for your second coat use regular non watered down paint for coverage. Also if it's a one coat job just have the water sitting on the top of your paint in the bucket to get a straight line the tilt the bucket back and get all the thick paint to lay off your line and get coverage .

Love your videos. Can't stand angled sashes and it is actually a little easier for me to get into corners with a flat like a purdy pro extra swan 3 in. Plus I can cut a ceiling line as long as both arms can reach with one dip. I also usually choose a brush based on the texture of the walls rather than the viscosity of the paint. Nylox is great for smooth walls.

nice way to break it down. its awesome to see how other painters do there work. i like your backroll technique with the hotdog roller. ive never done it personally i just roll up to within a half an inch or so from the ceiling but i can see this being useful in some cases especially for new painters.
