    Oh I did I absolutely love gemstones and I think the people who create such timeless works of art are not given enough credit for their gifts. Gemstones are the earth in its purest form! A masterpiece of time, random chemistry, and great powers of heat and pressure. Gem cutters take that perfect piece of earth and set it free to be the beautiful piece art that it is and it will last forever! It's just amazing once you think about it. Each gem you cut has the ability to exist as long as this planet (or longer) will with so many lives getting to enjoy its beauty through out time. Do you sell finished stones? I just have to ask sorry.

    Hello, Lovely video showing the process and attractive result. There were some aspects of the process I imagined incorrectly (making the girdle) and others I'd wondered about (the transfers and centering). When faceting various minerals are the facet angles adjusted to match the various index of refraction values? So is a round brilliant zircon faceted with different angles than a diamond?

  • @VintageTimeGems

    @VintageTimeGems

    6 жыл бұрын

    Paul Cooper Yes the angles are changed to the refractive index of the particular gem in question. Diamond has a high refractive index so most angles work. Thats why most diamonds are usually cut to weight.

  • @davegibson234
    @davegibson234 Жыл бұрын

    Thank you for that process, I had no idea that the girdle was first to Be faceted. It really helps my brain to see the order of things. Nice job on the video also, well presented, without all the chatter Of someone’s knowledge interrupting the wonderful process. Really Learned a lot!!! Dave, lighting bolt forge.

    I taught people how to cut these 46 years ago in the Army. I cut the stone for my wife's engagement ring! We did it a LITTLE differently, but basically the same, and the results were the same!

    while a cut stone is pretty and the workmanship that goes into is intense. I have allways admired the beauty of uncut stones. Also how many times have you polished your own fingers?

    +Ian Jennings Stick with it Ian. Messing up is all part of the learning process. I remember that the first couple of months I didn't have clue what was going on (especially with polishing). Joining a gem club and having a experienced faceter teaching you is well worth it. Cheers
