I am also a master plumber with 40 plus years experience, Yes I have used a hack saw several times to cut copper pipe for various reasons which I cant remember why....I recently used a multi tool to cut a combo into a 3" dwv copper stack cause it was tight against a wall , worked pretty good and more controllable than a sawzall... I may have to try it on a boiler heating pipe which is tight to wall which I have to cut a tee into , actually thats why I am watching this video , to see if there are ways I haven't used yet... even with 42 years of plumbing and mechanical work under my belt I am always open to info and methods I may not be aware of... Thanks for video.

Licensed contractor of 15 years here. Was looking for best methods to cut copper when it’s tight against a stud….sometimes it might be ugly but that’s all you can do. Probs going 12v Milwaukee method with this one. Thanks for the reassuring vid.

really enjoyed it. I need to cut a really heavy piece of copper pipe, 1 1/2 inches, what would be your suggestion for that?

They make tubing cutters that large but if you don’t have one then a sawzall with a fine metal blade or even a hack saw will do it.

There's a ratcheting cable cutter that I am dieing to see if it will cut pipe without bending it. Have you tried? Do you know??

I believe those are made for cutting wires and groups of wires and actual cable. Not pipe of any kind.

Would you recommend buying the Auto Cut. Amazon sells this exact model it's 54 dollars? I'm having trouble cutting off 1 mm thick rings off 3/4" copper pipe.I make keychains. Is there a way to sharpen the blade on a regular pipe cutter? Or would yhe Auto Cut be better? Or should I just pay $15 and get a regular pipe cutter I make keychains and having a solid piece that can slip onto a person's keychain is a lot more stable than using a jump ring. 1 mm in thickness looks the best but but it's really hard to do. Like hours go bye while i try and retry.

I’m not sure about cutting such small. pieces. I’d think that would be difficult with any cutter

Worked fine for me when I had to make a cut very close to an old gate valve. I needed as much of the remaining stub as possible so I could use a push connect style fitting (like sharkbite, but Watts in this case). Just go slow, and deburr well afterwards

40 years as a plumber, I prefer a dull butter knife that I welded onto a broken sawzall blade that was brazed onto a broken Joni bolt, 5/16 of course. I jam the Joni bolt into a drill chuck I took off my old hole hawg, ground the shaft down to fit into my hackzall ,,,, and poof square cut me tube. Than I cram the tube into a clean fitting coated in my blood dripping off my cut finger from the sharp edge of the tube and solder it together with some frozen cat veins I got off the local road pizza,, it’s winter so the veins are cheap. Hope this helps you novice type. 😊
