How to Cut and Scribe an Internal Corner on Skirting Boards
Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль
In this video I show you how to get the perfect skirting board joint on an internal corner. Not all internal corners are smack on 90 degrees, so by creating a scribe joint for your skirting or baseboard, you can achieve a perfect join every time.

I last scribed a skirting 17 years ago and needed a refresher - this was perfect! Thanks.
Thank you Justin, for making it clear and simple!! Good job man.
Didn't realise it would be so easy. No more mitres in internal corners for me. Thanks so much.
Nice simple explanation of a very useful procedure.
Superb. Need to install my skirtings in a couple of weeks and will definitely be following this advice.
Bravo - with hand tools. Excellent content.

Awww mate this is genius. I was wondering how the hell I was going to accomplish this in my first house and first time fitting skirting. This is fantastic! Thank you very much :)

Nice video, thank you!
Nice one fella.Just subbed 🤙🏻
Would be great if you positioned the camera so we could actually see the coping saw going through the moulded part of the skirting. Might be a tricky positioning the camera, but well worth it because nobody on KZread has positioned the camera that close up as of yet.
Amazing thanks!
Great video
impressed
yes, great demonstration of a really useful technique...except that you have to be able to cut a 45 degree angle and my mitre cutting kit isn't deep enough for my skirting. I'll have to work out how to adapt the technique.

Do scribe if u have square profile skirting or just push it up to it ?
@JBTV

If it's square/flat, then you have nothing to scribe, so just push it up against

Do you always scribe the skirting board on the right hand side?
@JBTV
10 ай бұрын
No, it just depends on which direction around a room you're going, and also the size of the pieces that need to be joined
So are you back cutting the top half of the mould?
Iv seen so many videos and still confused lol why cut 45 angle to then cut it off. What am I missing
@andy.robinson

Took me a second watch to figure that out too. Look at the edges left by that 45° cut - it's the exact profile of the piece you're butting up to. No need to draw anything. Just cut along that edge at a slight backward angle.

It’s called an open mitre, the point is it gives you the profile of the skirting with an edge you can follow with the coping saw. Also hold the coping saw upside down and turn the blade at 45 degrees or so, this forces the scribe to be undercut so it doesn’t foul the profile on the other side.
What type of skirting is this mate?

Looks like 4 or 5 inch Ovolo MDF.
Kind of helpful but when it came to showing the angle, you camera light was so bright, I couldn’t get a sense of the angle.
That ok but what about when the walls are not level.I use a sliding bevel to find the correct angle
You used white wood rather than unprimed and curve are not too many. Where as I have too many curves
Not clear

Just like your replies.
There’s not such thing a an internal mitre. Carpentry rule number 1. The whole purpose for the scribe is to eliminate shrinkage. If you mitre the internal I don’t care how square your wall is, over time this will open up and look like crap. Same applies to crown mounding don’t internal mitre it.
Wtf using a hacksaw should be using the coping saw all day long
