I've never heard of Formica walls before. Now I know that I need to cover the walls of my destructive toddler's room with it!

Wow! Thank you so much for the kind words and support Beatnik. I love helping others learn how to build and comments like yours mean a great deal to me. Thank you for watching and all of the support!
A great step I add is to use parchment or wax paper between the wall and formica after the contact cement has been applied and dried. Wax/Parchment paper will not adhere to contact cement. In this situation I would have used parchment paper and adhered it to the wall in strips. (Tape the parchment paper to the wall where the formica is not going to be applied) When you are ready to connect the formica to the wall you pull one strip of the wax paper out from behind the formica and then roll the it firmly in place. Once you are satisfied move on to the next piece of parchment paper, and repeat the process until it is completely adhered. I have used this process on counter tops etc and makes it incredibly easy to install and no stress. Hope this made sense and helps. Great Vid!

great tip because dowels are great for horizontal apps but not vertcal ones.
What a great and thorough presentation. !
Looks great. Good job
I don't comment much but, wanted to say thanks as it has been a few years since my last Formica install .. (retired) Stuff changes and new tools. Thank you for the upload and used a couple of your tips. Thank you.
Spot on is that idea . Thanks
Thanks a lot! I will use it for my RV trim.
I never quit using formica in my 60's kitchen. No granite for me. Formica is an amazing product.

Thanks for this INFORMATIVE video. It's perfect TIMING. I held back on cutting laminate/formica for sometime for the lack of HOW the Bestway to Cut it straight till I saw your video its time to get busy. Oh do you have any suggestions on cutting a rounded corners to fit around those chrome shelves' legs? Need to make it fit as close as I can to them so heavy items don't fall through or the formica doesn't brake off at the corners.
Nice!

Thank you for making the video. It is very helpful. I am working on a bathroom project that I will be installing the Formica sheet on the walls, but I don’t know how to deal with the uneven wall surface. I do not want to see the Formica looks wavy after the installation. Do you have any recommendations or tips for that? Thank you.
Nice video

How many cans of adhesive did you have to buy?
just a thought but it is recommended to use the curved surface for most routers rather than the flat face as with the flat face any sort of accidental twisting of the router will curve your cut line where as the rounded surface is a consistent distance from the bit
@BenG78

I read your comment and I understand and get your point on same distance all around. I'm not a router guy and that makes me wonder what is the flat edge for?
@pistolade9956
2 жыл бұрын
@@BenG78 usually you'd put like an edge follow jig on that side. It's flat to let you get that little bit closer to the edge. That's the only thing I've really seen but I'm not so sure honestly

I'm going to try it. Cheap and waterproof.
Did you not do molding in between Formica joints
Can I simply use small nails to attach the sheet to the wall?
Shouldn't you hold the tape measure tap horizontal when you measure the width? You had one end higher than the other. It will read high.
What was the song at the end of the video?
Hi there nice video I am about to make a formica desk with birch ply can I ask you something please? How long do you have to wait until you route the edges? Also is the whole process quite easy- what worries me is , is air bubbles .(I know its not what you just did but I figured you may know the answer) thanks in advance sir

Hi Christopher. Thanks for watching and glad you are taking on your own project. I’m assuming you are asking how long you have to wait for the spray adhesive to dry. If so, you can router it within a couple of min after you have it set in place. The process is easy but just make sure you set one edge in place first and then gradually move your way down. Don’t try to set it all at once. Hope that makes sense and good luck.

@@BYOTools thanks for the reply... i was wondering , on the back of the tin it say 2.5m square coverage per 1L, does that mean when applied to to both surfaces or in total ?.... mmmm does not seem to go very far
3m doesnt gas off? I need this.
I have a bare wet plaster back splash that we removed tiles from and then sanded clean. Do we have to seal or paint the wet plaster before installing a sheet laminate over the whole back splash>
@BYOTools

YES make sure you at least prime the plaster but if this is a backsplash why are you not just installing tile again?

Byot, is it ok to apply glue over an old existing Formica and put a new piece down? Wife bought a house with a weird positioned kitchen sink and can't find counters at the required size so I'm thinking to keep them and put new Formica over? Any help will be great appreciated. Thank you

You really should wear a respirator when spraying the contact adhesive. You don't want that stuff in your lungs

really spray adhisive? will that last? I stoped your video when I saw no face mask while spraing, Call me in 20 years when you have lung issues.

You obviously don't know your spray adhesives OP. This 3M 90 is seriously strong and you'll be cracking the panel off in pieces if you ever tried to take it off. As for the mask thanks for looking out and I'm normally good about wearing masks but I'm not worried about this stuff. Probably as bad as breathing in hair spray once or twice. But YES its always important to protect your lungs. Thanks for watching.
