How To Cure Inconsistent Shooting

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Take The Masterclass:
DeepGameBasketball.com
One of the most frustrating things for any shooter are having a knock-down, can't miss jumper one day and feeling like you can't hit anything the next. In today's video, Coach Drew talks about how you can fix that inconsistency to turn you into that lights-out, consistent shooter you know you can be! Keep in mind, sometimes the basket can be the biggest "distraction" when working on your fundamentals and jumping in front of a mirror or having someone film your shot can be a great way to self analyze and make sure you're doing what Coach Drew is teaching!

    Repetition is the best way to stop this. Practice the same shot over and over whatever feels comfortable. Also try form shooting close to the rim

    My old coach used to tell me, that you could miss a jump shot four ways: left, right, short and long - with good shot mechanics shooting straight on the basket, you basicly eliminate 50% of the ways to miss (being left and right) a shot...repetitve practice like showen here, will get you more baskets - its simple (very simple) math...

    IMO paying attention to the small details makes a big difference. Once you are focusing on all those small habits, your shot improves. But that also means if you lose focus and get lazy, your shot will go downhill.

    Getting that consistent backspin is key.Achieving that consist of keeping your hands in place the entire shot, me personally I've learned shooting quicker helps with this. Allows me to shoot consistent no time for error, the slower I shoot the more my hands slide out of place and it becomes more of a "push" and less of a smooth "roll off the finger tip" shot. Keeping the wrist relaxed is the first step to the consistency

    Since everyone's staying at home all the time, I practiced form shooting against a wall, visualizing the rim was there. I got more and more comfortable and developed what I thought was good form, even filmed myself several times and never looked so much better. I built a new sense of confidence that I was gonna put some serious work in with my new found form. When I finally got a chance to practice at the court (they just recently allowed basketball), it felt so fucking off when I took my 1st shot. I took more and made maybe 5 out of 30 and the 5 didn't even feel great. As I took more shots eventually I just seemed to revert to my old inconsistent shot where my right involuntarily flares to the right and my guide hand assisting it. I made more of them on my whatever form than I did with the form that I practiced. I tried to correct it numerous times by remembering and re-doing the form I practiced for months but it's almost like my body forgot about it the moment I took my 1st shot lol. I just can't figure it out and it's incredibly frustrating!

  • @younggslash

    @younggslash

    No, a push out crossover is a crossover where you push out the ball with control and simultaneously move forward the foot on the side of the hand you’re pushing out the ball. Once you do that you bring the ball back to the opposite direction (aka your back foot)

    One thing to add for the hoopers in the comment section. If YOU get BORED with being consistent and shooting the same shot every single time, then YOU should just be happy with YOUR inconsistent shot. Also be GAME LIKE in your workouts. Don’t be working and not moving as you would in a game

    @John doue Quebec do u have access to a gym? If you do, then I reccomend u do dumbell overhead press, barbell overhead press, close grip bench press, incline bench, any rowing variation ( I recommend u do these exercises at least twice a week, one high rep/volume(at least 3 sets and 8 or more reps per excersise) day and one low rep/ intensity day (min 2 sets and max 5 reps per excersise) End ur workouts with facepulls (like 4 sets of 15-20 reps) Reverse flys ( 3 sets of 15) Tricep pushdown (3 or 2 sets of 20) Ur high rep or volume days should be no more than 45 minutes, the purpose is only to warm up and strengthen ur tendons and ligaments for the heavy day, which will improve shoulder strength and overall shoulder health, along with close grip bench to help with ur triceps as they are responsible for extending the forearm, like in a shot, the close grip and incline provide general chest strength and the row is used to fix posture issues and imbalances, If there's anything unclear let me know

    @John doue Quebec I reccomend u order ur workouts as such Shoulder Chest Back Facepulls Pushdowns Reverse flys I also advise that u mix up the excercises like ex: Day 1 (low rep) Overhead press(ohp) Close grip bench Pendlay row ( just an example) Day 4 (ur muscles need are least 42 hours to recover fully, this is just an example) Dumbell ohp (sranding/sitting) Pause close grip bench( hold the bar at the bottom for about a sec or 2) Different row variation Day 6 (light/ high rep day) Ohp Incline bench Row variation I hope u get what I mean, ur high rep/mini workouts which last max 45 minutes but should last aprox 30 minutes can be done 24 hrs after a workout, nothing crazy, everything is high reps, like 15 minimum reps and the point is just to warm up the joints

    @@cyr8xamv764 if ur a two form shooter, and u want body weight only excersises, do pushups, incline pushups( feet on a stool) close grip push ups. Clap pushups (to develop pure explosiveness which helps with recruiting muscle fibres quicker like when taking a shot) If u shoot in one fluid motion, alot of ur power will come from ur legs, so u squats and lunges for those, access to some weights would help speed up the process, but u can still increase upper body strength with bodyweight excercises, at least enough to help u shoot, I used to only do bodyweight exercises and my shots gradually gained power as I kept doing them. Good luck out there
