How to Create Fire in Acrylics, Graphite, and Colored Pencils - The Art of Joseph Finchum

In this video I am going to show you how to paint Fire Effects in Acrylic Paints, sketch black and white Fire Effects in Graphite Pencils, and Draw Colored Fire Effects in Colored Pencils.
From Simple to more complex versions of each, we will dissect the ways I have learned to create fire that is both believable and fitting for your individual project.
This isn't how to do it, this is how I do it.

★ Arches 140 lb Hot Press Watercolor Paper

omg thank you so much for this video. I tried so many times to draw realistic fire with prismacolors and I really just couldn't. I saw this video and it helped so so much. This is an underrated video.

I've watched this twice now and tried the colored pencil versions. I only have a small basic set of cheap colored pencils. So, no midtone yellow and you are absolutely right about starting with yellow being to hard to tell what I was doing. I guess I should have listened.

You can start with a very fine, very light line of orange to get it started and just blend it away with the yellow, but make sure to leave some of the white in place. Thanks for watching. :)
