How To Create & Edit Shapes In Gimp 2.10 Tutorial | Gimp Basics For Beginners
In this Gimp tutorial I will be showing you how create and edit shapes. I will be showing you an example using basic shapes in Gimp 2.10 on my Windows 10 PC. You can get really creative and make a shape of your choice or even just make a simple square, and by editing the colours, outlines etc you can make a cool logo or a basic picture, the choice is yours.
Gimp is a fantastic free open source graphics editor which can be downloaded here: www.gimp.org/downloads/

As I am new to graphic programs I appreciate the slower step by step tutorial that your video offers. Subscribed and liked.
This is actually such a good walkthrough! First video or blog post I've come across that actually starts by telling you to create a new layer. I'd been just drawing the rectangle and then filling did nothing before this. Thank you!
Thank you for your patience in making these GIMP tutorials for us beginners. Please carry on..nice to learn something new.
Like your tutorial on shapes. My question is how do you edit a shape after you have created it an deselect it? For example what if I need to adjust the size of a square I have drawn? I cannot figure out how to select it again and edit it. Please advise. Thank you. John
Thank U. This is what I was looking for.
great tutorial - thank you.
This has a good pace and you were easy to understand. I felt like I learned something.
Thanks, mate. So helpful and easy to follow

Thanks a lot
Thanks dude! Good stuff
Thanks for your tutorial! Sub'd.
Is there a way to make curved arrows?
I'm now using GIMP cuz of Microsoft Word trial ran out and I don't want to pay a lot of money for that. Can we used like lines to trace a person in a photo to make an outline of that person? OR are the square and circle the only two shapes in this program?
First video I could find that actually shows the Stroke Selection to create a doughnut (or donut in the US :) )
Is there any way to make a jagged circle, like if you want to draw a sun.
yo but how do you transform it after color selection and such
OOOOOOHHHH.... how i not think of dat
2:36 I get stuck when it comes to editing "empty" shapes AFTER I make them. Say I create a square - not a filled one, just the outline, like you demonstrated in the video. I leave it alone and go and work on something else in the project and then I want to edit the size of the square I just drew. Moving it works well enough, but resizing is a problem: the lines get thinner or fatter the more I deviate from the original size, which makes sense, because I'm not editing the path anymore - I'm just editing a layer, so the program doesn't know there's a "shape" there. I was hoping there'd be a way to mess with them like the auto-shapes in Microsoft Word, which keep their aspect no matter how much you move or resize them...MS Paint is not perfect in this regard either, but at least creating a damn square only takes 5 seconds and takes 2 clicks...
You can do "anything you like?" How about resizing a previous shape after you've created it? Cheers.

you ever figure out how to do this?
One way to bypass the bucket fill is to click and drag the colors into the selection.
I can't believe if I just want to make a few circles with this program I have to enter the EDIT tab over and over.. There is not even a hotkey? That seems really strange to me :)

Pretty sure there’s a way to assign hotkeys to actions like that. Although I can’t remember if it’s built in or if it’s a plugin

It doesn't for me either. I'm working with Photoshop and Affinity Designer and thought I should give Gimp a try. It was a waste of time... even if it would have worked, three steps to make a simple square is unintuitive, slow and stupid. Deleted it right away and went on working with proper tools.
I tried this but it keeps filling the whole image and not the shape, what am I doing wrong?
How did unselect all of this. Mine doesn't unselect.
why i dont have that option in my application?
I can draw a rectangle, but the edit menu is grayed out .... I can't fill it with colors .... Plus.... gimp doesn't have a standard selection tool so I can get out of the selection mode... I don't know how to get out of the "rectangle" mode that I selected. Are you sure that this is for beginners????
ahh yes the classic 'stroke' setting
how can i do like that in gimp 2.10.20?

i do not have the circle button
I'm missing a bunch of tools. wrong download?
so how you make a star?
What about triangles?
Where's the drawing tools? Can't see any of the rectangle and circle drawing tools
sluggish tutorials.. haha thank god for 2X speed! >
triangles?
How to go back to pencil after?
And how about more complex shapes like stars etc? 👽
Having the background filled with transparency thats where I went wrong i didn't do that
I made a circle in paint, but it didn't work..........

@ComputerSluggish Tutorials Yes, I selected the rectangle tool but it's only allowing me to make a square
This program is so old and even today it has no geometric figures and arrows. You have to start from scratch for the simplest thing.

Legit
This program is so needlessly complicated. Paint.net is like: "on you want a parallelogram? No problem bro just make one with a single click and drag!". Gimp is useless

Lmao your pfp says it all. But anyway, that's what a casual would say. Gimp has a steep learning curve but is the best alt for Adobe Photoshop and the shit is free too
