Let’s learn 3 ways to start a chat in zoom.
Note: Before starting a chat you must add the contacts you want to chat with. If you want to know how to do it, watch our video:”How to add contacts in zoom”; the link is in the description below.
Create a chat
Go to the top menu and select chat, HERE.
Once on the chat page you can choose one of the following options:
On the left menu Click on this blue Icon Here.
In the Chats tab select the + icon Here.
By Pressing Ctrl + N in Windows or Command + N in Mac.
Whichever way you choose you will see at the right side these two fields: 1- At the top where you write the contact’s name you want to start the chat with and 2- At the bottom where you can write your message.
Let’s start a chat with William. I type his name. Then at the Message field let’s say Hi.
Easy right?
Setting up a Chat
Now let’s talk about 3 useful functions.
Hide a contact, star a contact and create a folder
On the left menu go to the Chats tab HERE.
Here you can see all your chats.
Hide a chat
Click on the right arrow HERE and you will see this menu.
Select the first option: Hide this chat and the chat will be hidden. Any time you can reopen that chat just by typing his name in the search bar HERE. Or go to the top menu, and click on the contacts option. Then click on your contact’s name in the left column HERE.
Star a chat
If there's a contact you regularly chat with, select the Star this contact option HERE. And that contact will always be visible on the Left side in the starred tab HERE.
Create a folder
To create a folder, click on the right arrow and select the Create a folder Option. Or you can click on the create a folder tab HERE. A New window is opened where you can name your folder. Below you can type or select the contacts’ name you want to include in your folder. Finally click on the create a folder button and that’s it. For example I am creating a folder named “family” and I am including a few contacts . Once created you will see your new folder at the top of the left column.
Keeping in touch through chat in zoom is a very practical way to work and to be organized. We invite you to use this feature in your next zoom meeting.
