I've kept common place books for years. I used to work with the disabled community. I used a common place book to track their disabilities/medical issues (no names, just conditions). One thing that I did, which was incredibly helpful, was to leave a few blank pages in the front and would create a table of contents. That way when a consumer would come in, I could quickly refresh my memory of the nuances of their conditions. Btw, I use the blank books which have a hard cover. I want to be able to go back for years to come.

A suggestion for those who have used those first few pages; you can still create a table of contents on the last few pages. I have a second edition book published in the early 1900s with the table of contents followed by 4 indexes (2 for illustrations, 1 for references, and the usual general index) in its ending "few" pages. Front or back they will work for you.

In 2019, I started a journal for my daughter, that is full of my favorite quotes, lyrics, etc....basically things that remind me of her and things to think of or about, if she wants or needs some inspiration, and I had it to where I only dated it for Every Monday of the month, therefore I had enough room so it ends by the time she graduates high school in 2022, for a graduation gift 💞

I cried reading this. I'm also pregnant & emotional, but nevertheless, still a touching idea. This is something I could see myself starting for my first born in 6 mos. Already trying to stay on top of recording each day how I feel so perhaps when I need to do some persuading bc he/she is being a teenager & doesn't wanna spend time w/ their mom, then I'd whip out the Pregnant With You novel that talks about all the days I vomited out my soul, & cried on the bathroom floor bc of the pain. Or how everytime I coughed (which is a lot due to lung illnesses since I was a baby), I peed a little & it felt like someone stretching (or perhaps stabbing would be a more fitting word) my uterus. & then my baby would feel all bad & cancel plans w/ his/her friends bc "damn, my mom went through hell to give me life". I win. Lol 😂

I treated my "bullet" Journals as something like this. Now I stopped calling my journals "bullet journals" and just write whatever I want, which can be my own personal reflection, notes I took about something I learned, or something that has inspired me. In a way, my journals are my commonplace books except less organized and coherent.

What great concept! I take notes on the random tips, advice, quotes, etc. I come across and would like to keep, but they’re spread across several notebooks, post-its, printed articles, and bits of paper. However, I’ve done a version of this at work (I’m on my 4th volume) and it really helps. I created an index which made searching for a particular note/tip quick & easy. Thanks for sharing. I love the set up of your learning book.

I think this would work for me if I did weekly or monthly highlights - that would help integrate and reinforce. That's actually an aspect that's been missing from my digital notes, I do go over them and reprocess them, but the act of writing is better for my memory. Digital is really a better method for me for taking notes and organizing them, it's easy for me to pare them down and reorganize them. When I had to use paper it was just chaos, crumpled notes, lost pages, destroyed notebooks, things written in every direction and squeezed in whereever there was space. I'm so glad I saw your video! It helped me figure out a better solution. I think making it "crafty" would probably also be relaxing, and be a good creative outlet as well!

Once I typed it out, I completely forgot about it. I had been searching for a new notebook brand to use for my notes and really like your recommendation - I like the thinner notebooks for portability and easier to write on. Having a commonplace book is so freeing. I used to only keep a planner and would brain dump there. But I felt like I had to write it a certain way or condense it to fit the space. Having a commonplace book throws all rules out the window and is so freeing. I enjoyed your video!

This makes so much sense. I have random notebooks and scraps of paper for planning and to do lists and can never find anything. You are helping pull everything together in one place. Thanks so much. This is so much better.

I just found you in my feed. Very good video. I have been keeping notes on and off all my life, I'm 62. At the of the pandemic I expanded this note taking. Now I will evolve again and adopt your Commonplace Book concept. Thank you.

I started a commonplace/reading notebook. It helps me to read more books. I have used my notes to create 10-minute trainings and to share excerpts with my sisters when we have our Brain Dump sessions on Sundays.

This is so great! I never thought about collecting information like this but I had always wanted to jot down things I had come across. Usually I've been told to take down notes for school work or work and that everything else wasn't such a priority to organize or keep. I've always been told that tidbits of information are useless but some things just happen to have an profound impact on me. I'm definitely going to create Commonplace Books now and spread the mental value to those that might not have considered them or might not have been introduced to the process. I bet there are others that have been taught to prioritize information in this organized format. 🤩

Wonderful tips! I've been keeping a commonplace book/journal since I could write, since my much older sister taught me to - at the beginning those were drawings, and glued in newspaper scraps, now this books help me write my masters degree :) Also your voice is a pleasure to listen to. So calm and smooth!

You’ve probably heard this a million times but I love your handwriting. This is a great idea because so many little things happen in a day. Appointments you need to make, phone calls you need to make, something you want to look up. Things I want vs things I need is another. I tab the section to easily find. Very nice video.
