You are the first instructor to answer the question I have had for years. "How do you determine your length guide for layers"????? In every tutorial other than yours the instructor just plows in without any explanation for how they arrive at a length decision. Thanks so much.
@KenraProfessional
2 жыл бұрын
Yay! You're so welcome! You can also determine layer length by preference or facial features you'd like to enhance, but this one is a great tool and standard to use as well, especially if the hair is very long. We hope this helps!
I wish they would have showed that little trick in school on determining a guide length for layers. That would have been immensely helpful.

Great video. This is the exact haircut that I want/aim for. Given that it's a pretty simple long layered cut, it's amazing how hard it is to find quality references. It's good to have verification of the things I'm doing right and to clarify some things I wasn't confident about. My waist length hair can rest easy tonight😆
Great video love the detailed step by step instructions. Hope you’ll make even more haircut videos. Would love to see variations of bob haircuts! 👍🏼

This is exactly what I want❣️
Finally! This is the most sensible long layered hair cut I’ve found on KZread so far! Most I’ve seen are horrible in that they are just butchering the hair into a choppy thin mess. I think the problem is they think you must cut a lot of hair off to make layers & truth is you don’t! The biggest mistake I see most make on long hair esp thin long hair is not leaving enough weight at the base of the hair so it ends up a stingy mess. But most of what you did is how I also learned to cut long hair layers. I don’t do hair anymore for others but I have long mid back fine hair so I deal with it every single day! I also have wavy hair & use bleach highlights & live in a very humid climate which means over layering is going to be a frizz ball with whacky sprigs everywhere. So my pro tip under my circumstances is I do basically what you did except I don’t go as far down with the layers as the piece behind the ear as a guide. I keep my layers & my guides at the parietal arch & occipital bones & above. I want a heavy base line all around my head from the high bones down. * I also never point cut or use thinning shears except for a little on my short disconnected bangs. The reason I avoid any thinning is because with fine wavy hair in humidity I want it as slick & blunt cut as possible to avoid random whisps. And I don’t want it to look like split ends but like blunt fresh cut ends even in the layers. It just looks healthier when blunt cut. Thanks for sharing & for the best long layer technique on KZread! 🏆

I detest those chopped into ends. It just disguises all the steps and stairs they have cut. A nice well done blunt layer sits so much better.

I’ve been doing hair for a while now 😆 and I’ve never put effort into practicing to style hair with that curling iron. It feels it’s not for my hand .. I only use Marcelle irons and it’s just perfect for my fingers and finish fast curling hair. Foe some reason I just love my Marcelle’s. Also once in a while I come Back here to watch perfection I really love Kenra education. Thanks again 🥰

Great video. Sooo much better than the first 5 I found in search. Question tho: You trimmed to the length you wanted, then when layering it looked like you layered all the way down the back of the head to create a new length in the back. What did I miss? I never know if I should taper all the way to the bottom or leave an under section untouched.
@KenraProfessional
2 жыл бұрын
Hi, Katy! For long layers, you can cut length first. Cassi measured from the side point to make sure that she doesn't actually cut into the length. The idea for this particular approach is to cut the layers while maintaining as much of the perimeter untouched as possible. We hope this helps!
Minunat! 🎉👏👏👏👏👏

Great tutorial!! Can you please let me know the name/brand of the sectioning comb you used?? I would love to buy one! Thanks, Cat
hi... Im a student and I was taught to use a comb to do blunt cuts. Seems easier to use fingers. And you start layering from the top of crown towards the bottom. I was shown to do the opposite, but this method seems easier to follow.
Hi! When parting the subsections in the back are you going at a slight angle or are the lines horizontal?

Are you bringing the hair center when you are connecting the back to the front? I couldn’t tell with the camera angles. I know it’s 90degrees up but are you over directing to the nose at all for the front?

Pulling straight up takes weight off and adds tons more layers doesnt it? Rather than following head shape and pulling out?
@KenraProfessional
2 жыл бұрын
Hi Tamara! Depending on what look you are going for-- yes, pulling the hair out horizontally versus vertically from the head will affect how long and how many layers there are. Be mindful though although everyone is different, if you only pull out horizontally from the sides of the head and don't address the weight at the top, it may appear quite bulky and heavy in the crown.
@lightscameratamara

@@KenraProfessional Yes. Totally get that. I like to cut in shape of head. So I pull up somewhat instead of collapsing the fullness. Basically just joining the top layer to bottom that way. Im looking into Paul Mitchell school. I always love these cutting videos. I can not tell you how many over the yrs I have watched lol. Learn so much from them
@cassiyoung-paxton4124

This sectioning allows for maximum length to be left without cutting into the perimeter. When following the head shape you will encounter the baseline which can leave it whispy espescially on finer hair.
