Thank you for this. It is very helpful. How do I get it to stop counting at 0? Mine continues into negative numbers.

I am also facing the same problem. Did you find any solution?

Same issue! must be someone smart who can offer a solution. 😂
I did a test using steps shown but the seconds variable take longer to countdown than normal when previewed. Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks!
This video helped me very much, but I have a question, how can I stop the seconds timer when it reaches 0 and show layer of answer

Hi Zeinab. You can use a a trigger with a cobdition for this.
Could I use the same steps to create a countup timer? I need to ensure my learners stay in the quiz a set amount of time, and a timer could just let them see how far they are. Thanks!
Thanks Mark. I have followed your instructions with a slight modification to start the timer from a button on an slide (using a variable). It will then work across a number of custom built quiz slides. I have an issue. The time stops when any of the feedback layers are open and continues when it is closed. That won't work because the idea is to set a timer for the whole module. Is there a way to keep the timer running when it is on slide layers?

Have you got the solution for this or using states is the only way out?
This is a very smart and simple solution. Thank you for sharing what you discovered - that's so helpful!
Thank you mark...!
Thanks for this, Mark.
When I attempt two different timer layer lengths, one of them doesn't work. This is for timers that count every quarter second and every 5 seconds. Is it possible to make two timer lengths using two timer layers?

Well, I found a that adding a variable that counts 20 quarter second and resets itself to zero but placed within the quarter second layer does the trick. When the 20 quarter second variable gets above 19 then it adds one to the 5 second variable and resets itself to zero for another set of 5 seconds to come.
Hello, I've noticed that with all of the Articulate updates, some of the variable/trigger options are no longer available since this video was published. Following along with the most up-to-date version leads me to a dead end with this timer. Is there an updated version of how to make the flip card timer?
Is it easier to just embed a count-down timer video in the timer layer in the master slide?

No, that would let the user pause the slide still. Mark's way will let the user pause the timeline/video but the time will continue counting down.
Thank you sir
hello sir, I can already apply it to multiple choice questions. but how do we do it so that when we have finished working and later if we want to go back to the menu about the time we can restart again? please answer sir, thank you * Sorry, I'm translating in goggle translate, because I'm not good at speaking English
Thank You so much for your tutorials but it's still 0:010 or 0:015. Could you give me a solution to address it, please? Thank you in advance!

need a string to change to status normal when second less 0
Thanks for the helpful video. Will this apply the timer to all of the slides or will the learner be able to see this timer for all of the slides? That is my concern as I build my assessment.
Thank you
How I change the initial countdown value for diferents slides?

Set the timer variable to the desired value when the timeline begins for each slide.
Nice tutorial & easy to follow. One thing : Do you notice that if you publish it into Review, you will face problem with the size of of font into custom state (seconds 09-01)?How can we figure it out? Thanks in advance and keep up your great work.
Question... how would you get the timer to stop at 0:00? Also, I am setting my timer to begin counting down from five minutes. I immediately see 5:0. I have tried to apply the same technique we applied to the :09 state, but it is not working. I have placed the trigger at the top.

Add another trigger to the Timer Layer: Hide layer this layer when the timeline starts on this layer if minutes = value 0 and seconds = value 0.
superrrr, Thanks for the help
This is great but how would you adapt it to stop and start under certain conditions such as pause when timeline starts but start when timeline resumes (this does not work as the layer is always resetting to timelines start).

To start and stop the timer: Add a start and a stop button to the base layer in Master slide view. Change the Trigger from show timer layer from when timeline begins to "when the user clicks button 1. Add another trigger to the base layer "hide layer timer when the user clicks Button 2"
I followed this video step by step and I cannot get the added 0 for seconds 9-1 to work. I have the 2 states for the text box and the triggers to make it appear, but it doesn't. I don't know why.
Ur explanation was as clear as mud. It would help if you included a flow chart with each step. It was quite difficult following your explanation attempting to learn these triggers.
Plus Articulates seconds based on this example seem longer than normal seconds...
How do you get the value to be 0.00 instead of just 0? How do you get the timer to show :09, :08 when it gets below 10 seconds rather than :9, :8? Thank you. I love this tutorial, but that issue is confounding me.

The answer is in the video. The trick is to set a state for %seconds% adding a 0 in front of it. Then adding a trigger.
I also made a video on this same topic on KZread 🤔but somehow method is little bit different 👍🏻👍🏻
This method takes far less memory and actually less complicated than another tutorial I previously watched.

my timer is slow, not actually representing seconds as it substracts at a slower pace for some reason...

ok found the issue, make sure the "End" point on your timer layer is set to 1sec on your timeline.
