How to cover dummy cakes in fondant | HOW TO | Florea Cakes

This is an Instagram LIVE recording, where I show you how to cover cakes in fondant. Usually, I cover 10-15 cake dummies at a time to practice wedding designs, make tutorials, or for virtual shows and demonstrations.
Cake dummies are relatively inexpensive and now you can buy them everywhere, including Amazon.

    Thank you for all the tips. Can the fondant be painted? And how do you connect the tiers?

  • @floreacakes

    @floreacakes

    Yes you can! I prefer pre-color fondant with gel colors before applying on a cake. To connect cake I use bamboo skewers

    For years! I know people who had their cake dummies covered in fondant for 10 years. Just keep it out of direct sunlight and that's it.

    Thank you for this demonstration! The additional step of fondant dipped in cornstarch as smoother to remove imperfections was fantastic!! I’m wondering if you can use this same method with a frozen cake that is 6” high???

    You are so welcome! You can use this technique on any cake. The only thing with frozen cakes - fondant will harden when applied to the cake.

    Hi, I'm so interested with your job and advices you give to us always. If you don't mind I have a question : After tow days of covering can I insert branches of flowers without breaking or damaging the surface layer. Thanks a lot.

  • @floreacakes

    @floreacakes

    Yes, most likely you can. If fondant hardens, you can use an awl to poke a hole before inserting flowers.

    Hi Astashkina tell me why you use your sugarpaste as smoothers at last? Is there anything beside that we can use.. and can we use the same on cake or you do that part only for dummy

  • @floreacakes

    @floreacakes

    Yes! Just a piece of fondant (same as for the cake) to smooth all the imperfections.

    It is a Cake Safe's acrylic disk to buttercream or ganache cakes. You can use a lid or something, doesn't have to be specifically this shape and material.

    Hi I want to thank you so much for giving advices and your experience. I had a question to ask : before how many days from the date of party I can cover my fals cake ? Second question: If I have to use two parts of false cake , how can I prevent their movements and the edge between them? Thanks a lot . Greetings ❤

    You can cover up to a year in advance, but keep it away from a direct sunlight and dust. Fondant will dry out and crate a hard shell, but it my help you to save time.

    Hi Ma'am .. i love the videos you make .. taking inspiration from you am going to participate in cake show.. need your expertise .. to clear my picture.. this is the first time i doing something big i have some queries such as how to stack a dummy cake of 4.5 height with little fondant covered and decoration with fondant figurines.. how to make it stable so that it sticks together ..since my design has some carved structure in between to give the design a meaningful word.. but confused about how to stack all these so that it won't fall. your reply will help me a lot...thank you in advance :)
