After watching the video a couple days ago, I went online and ordered a microwave rice cooker. It arrived today and I cooked my first batch of microwaved rice. WHERE HAS THIS BEEN ALL MY LIFE??? The rice came out perfect, in less time, with no mess and I did not have to watch the pot. And to think I've been doing it the old fashioned way for 30+ years. Greg, you're my hero! :D

This method of cooking rice has been adopted by us. Two reasons: it saves time and also saves electric. A microwave only uses about 800 watt whereas a cooker hob is about 1KW and is on for longer. We haven't used a proper microwave rice pot, as demoed by Greg but a plastic bowl covered with a small plate. Many thanks, Greg, you've saved us money and our rice turns out really nice each time ass well! (o:

Thank you for washing the rice three times before cooking. Most people in the west dont seem to understand that there can be dust and impurities in the rice. We have used a similar rice cooker for microwave for the past ten years with great result every time. I have even introduced it to our neighbours.

I'll tell you right now....once I found ONE of these BAD boys....I NEVER looked back!!!!....And it does instant rice also, just for those of you who might want rice in about 6-8 mins.!!!! If you don't mind instant rice, it will cook it just fine!!! 😁😎🖒🖒....I'm actually using mine RIGHT NOW for some boxed cilantro-lime rice! I just took it out of the box, measured it, added the water needed, and the packet....gave it a good stir b4 cooking, and I'm waiting patiently! lol 😁

I just did this tonight with a plastic mixing bowl and put the dinner plate on top. The 'spout' on the edge of the bowl let the steam out and the rice was great. Fluffed it up a bit with a fork. Nice warm plate. Home made mixed veg pasta sauce on top. Yummy!

    (1) The key is the amount of water. With the rice I use, it is 1.5 cup of cold water for every cup of uncooked rice. (2) If you use a bowl, for 2 cup rice, set it to 12 minutes with a power setting of 60%, If you make the power at 100%, the froth may overflow (3)The bowl should be 50% bigger than the contents (rice+water volume) (4) The advantage of bowl is that, you can cook smaller portions, say 1 cup uncooked rice, without a big pot occupying cupboard space.

You can also make rice ahead and store it flat in a baggie. Rice freezes beautifully! Takes only a few minutes to thaw and warm it in the microwave for just a few minutes to eat! Between my rice cooker and Panini grill, I have cut down on cooking times and clean up time for meals! Did you know that you can use both the rice cooker and the Panini grill for a lot more than what they were intended?

I feed my dogs some rice in the winter along with normal doggy food to warm their bellies but I buy minutes rice not even minute rice sometimes and put water a little rinse or two in the microwave for about 5 minutes and I have found if you make smaller batches of rice it takes less time if you want to go ahead and make you a serving of whatever you cooked it with then get some more later.

in asia the common type of rice that is consumed is the kind which are simply milled and coated by talcum or glucose powder to improve the grains' appearance (its cheap). with this type of rice it is recommended to wash the rice at most 3 times to remove the possible dirt and chemicals that adhered to the grains. there are other types of rice like those "enriched" ones but these are costlier.
