  • @chi7818

He didn’t mention timing because it varies. The thickness of the steaks and how hot your grill is all effect cooking time. Grilling isn’t like putting something in an oven and waiting X minutes, it’s more dynamic and needs more supervision. That’s why you use a thermometer and check the temp constantly. Like the sear, well if there are flare ups then you need to move it, or if the crust isn’t how you want, let it sit for a bit longer.

Thanks for subbing! Remember to have that cool side of the grill to help with flare ups. Flare ups are often caused by meat with more fat. As the fat heats up it will drip down and create those flare ups. When you see those happening, move the steak over to the cool side. You got this!

@@CertifiedAngusBeefTestKitchen I'm learning how to grill, and at first, it was confusing, because some sources said to give the steaks sometime over indirect heat, and some had you cooking them entirely over direct heat. The key was when it was made clear that whether or not you need to give the steaks time over indirect heat depends on how thick the piece of meat is.

  • @jlp7184

I know most people like to let their steaks rest for about 5 min so the juices doesn't run out when u cut into it. But the steak is warm/cool at that point. I prefer my steaks hot off the grill onto a preheated hot plate. The juices will run out but the hot plate keeps it hot. ( almost like eating prime rib with hot au jus). Compare it to the Ruth Chris sizzling steak experience.

Sorry to hear about that. A big factor is the amount of marbling (those tiny white flecks) in the steak. Look for our logo and you'll have the best steak! www.certifiedangusbeef.com/brand/best-angus-beef.php In general grain fed will have more marbling, aka flavor, compared to grass fed.

This is my first charcoal grill after a lifetime of gas. kzread.infoUgkxBPjh-m7-eaAjTEt8BOZRSRRxXqxiI90W The food in it turns out great. Also, the ash remover makes it easy to clean. The base is sturdy and it has ample space inside.I use a chimney to get it started, and it seems pretty efficient. One chimney is enough to cook a whole lot of meat and still keeps burning. If you close the vents it cools down well making it so the coals remaining are still usable as supporting cast members (you still need fresh coals to get them going.I was going to get something bigger, but realized with coal, bigger is just more wasteful and harder to cook with.

Starting out, never go by Time.. Go by Temperature. After practicing with different thickness of meats and getting the hang of the grill settings, then you might be able to approximate the time it takes for a given steak.. even then, a thermometer is still your best friend.
