@MRGRUMPY53 Given that the amount of extra friction and power loss from that abysmally designed GXP will probably make the power meter pointless. And given that the axle will wear out pretty quickly due to under-rotation of the bearings because GXP is garbage. Yes, bin it and get a Shimano crankset with a new power meter.

@MRGRUMPY53 For the normal non pro rider, the power loss will be hardly noticeable. Pro riders won't have GXP in their bikes anyway even if they're sponsored by SRAM, they'll have custom built BB usually based on 386 Evo or similar 30mm. The issue for normal people comes from needing new bearings more often to the point where it becomes a pain. Then ruining the spindle because of the bad design putting all the load on one side causing under-rotation and galling on the other. If you have time and money then it makes no difference what you use but if you think £3,000 on a bike is a lot and want it to last a few years or don't want to be replacing bearings every few months to avoid creaking and loose cranks then GXP should be avoided.

So I count myself as a Hambini fan, but many comments under this video are super unfair. Seems like some of you will be happy only when aerospace-engineers start to make simple bike-maintenance videos. I wanna react to some of the comments trolling some of the steps. Someone wrote GXP is crap according to Hambini. Might be, but Oli is not encouraging here ppl to switch to GXP. He is using it as example of BB change, because he happens to need it on his own personal bike, where he decided to use it. .........about anti-seize. Oli said, to check with manufacturer what to use as it varies from model. .........someone complained about hammer use on carbon. Well, hammer was not used on carbon, but on tool that was in contact w/ old bearing. Every bearing extractor requires use of hammer. Also Oli used it safely. And also I´ve seen Hambini to use hammer in many videos working on carbon frame. Not directly hitting carbon - obviously. I think Oli did good job and gave enough information. Main motivation was to make video where they can show ParkTool (as they are sponsors) and this video did deliver solid presentation. Hambini is doing great job on his channel, but let´s NOT troll now every bearing video, which is not made by Hambini. Cheers.

In any event, I would like to fit this crankset on my new Obrea Avant M20 Team D which has a shell of 86.5X46mm (I think the Obrea shell is called BB 386Evo) but these dimensions I have mentioned, I got from my bike shop mechanic who tried to fit it on and he said the crankarm is rubbing against the shell cups. He couldn't figure out if there is an adapter that can do the job and fir the two together. I wonder which type of adapter I'll need in order to fit the two together. if possible I'll be very happy if you could assist me with this.

Sorry I mean @8:50. I had hoped to put both sides of the BB in at the same time and screw together by hand, and tighten with the tools. But from watching you, it seems I might need a bearing press to get the cups in far enough on each side to be able to start screwing together in the first place?

Better to get one side in and square like Oli did, then install the other. If not, you risk squeezing both halves in a little off axis and not colinear with the frame. Could crack your frame. Don't ask me how I know.

MUNROmusic managers, that’s what happened (lower production cost of press fit). Also, most bikes made in Italy (not to confuse with term “Italian brands”) have still threaded BBs for Shimano standard.

A very useful episode of 1 guy, 2 cups... That said, can you guys do one just explaining BB standards and how they related to crank spindle sizes? I get that BB30, PF30, etc all refer to the BB shell on the bike, whereas GXP, DUB, etc refer to specifications of the crank spindle. But then what are BB30 cranks? And so on....

#AskGCNTech I have a question about 1x chain line. Please explain perfect chain line for 1x road/gravel bikes. I have a raod bike with a 135mm qr OLD Shimano rear axle and I changed the 2x setup to Sram Rival 1 (BB30). I am a bit confused about the optimal chainline. I found out that the Rival 1 cranks have a chainline of 45.5mm (Some other sources state 47mm. I don't know why). I believe the optimal chain line for 135 qr is 49mm. I am shopping for chainrings and am thinking about buying a 3mm offset chainring instead of the 6mm one I use atm. This should move the chainline to 48.5 (or50) which should be closer to optimal 49mm if I am correct. Please help

If you can fit either side by hand you’re not going to get a tight enough fit. Strictly the fact that there’s enough spare room in the shell to be able to screw in one side means there’s too slack a tolerance too

Would never happen. GCN is funded by it's relationship with bike manufacturers so saying why don't you buy a frame (replica) of a high end bike and build it yourself for less is never going to fly as a commercial proposition. Which is why they don't do bike reviews etc. Just do product placement with their Canyons and Orbea's etc.
